TALIA'S POV

I hated how my feet moved before my brain did.. one steps, two step.. past the counter, past the neon cow glowing on the wall, until I was standing by Zeke's table like some girl in a bad indie movie who knows she should leave but doesn't. I could feel Chris's gaze from behind me. This was going to be harder than I thought.

Meanwhile Zeke didn't smile, he simply nodded to the seat across from him, a gesture that I should sit. I didn't.

"This better be important," I said quietly.

"It is, and I'll tell you if you could just sit. No strings attached, I assure you,” he said.

I sat across him, folding my arms. "Make it fast, Deej is going to kill me if she doesn't get her Oreo drizzle."

A small smile found its way to his face, but it died off just as it came. "You look tired."

"That's what you wanted to say?" I asked as I tilted my head a bit, but Zeke shook his head.

"That's just an observation." He said.

I looked down on the table and saw the melting scoop of chocolate he had

Maxton's POV. She laid on my bed dozing off peacefully. I had woken up earlier after our wild sex and there she was beside me. Like an angel. I tucked some loose strands of hair behind her ears and chuckled as she wrapped her hands tightly against my pillow. She looked innocent. This was who I fell in love, who I was ready to spend the rest of my life with, with no fucking exception. My alarm clock buzzed aloud as the time struck 4:30am in the morning. We didn't even go down for dinner. I knew it was risky sleeping with her in my room, but the heart wants what it wants. As I moved to shut off the alarm, Talia stretched on the bed and sat up with a silent yawn. She ruffled her hair and shook her head before gazing at me. In silence. Total silence. Not again. Her expression was unreadable. It felt like she had just woken up from a dream and had started to realize what transpired between us. “Hey, is everything okay?” I asked slowly but firmly. She pulled the sheets to cover

Talia's POV. Well, this was going wrong in the worst way it could ever go. I never knew he felt like that. Damn, I never assumed Maxton saw himself as a mess whenever he tried to protect me. I was simply trying to do things on my own terms. My own strength… and things still kind of went awry. “But you act like it.” He added. “I tutored you that night before you went on your little adventure. A dangerous one to be precise. Did you stop to think about what would have happened if he caught you in his room.” “I… I,”Of course I did, but why couldn't I get it out of my mouth? Why was I… scared of saying it? Scared that I'd say something and he'd end this discussion “You have nothing to say?” Maxton cut in, his voice uncertain. “Good chat,” he muttered. “I do but I can't find the right word to say it,” I replied. “You can't find the right words to explain why you snuck into Steve's house? That doesn't sound like you,” he stated, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Then, I took a deep br

Talia's POV. Shit! It was Emily. She was a dragon breathing fire like she had a nest to protect. If I had known better, I would have rushed into Maxton's car and begged him to zoom off before she drew closer. “I can't believe you're so selfish,” she continued, storming closer in my direction. Maxton turned off his car and stepped out of his car, his face completely ridden in surprise. “Emily, what's wrong? I can explain,” “Explain?” She stood a foot away from me, gritting her teeth. “I should pull out your hair from your scalp.” “Why would you do that? Can you explain why you are so…. Angry!” “I told you not to bring up my name with Steve. I told you he is a psycho. I told you to forget about it,” her voice cracked. “I did not… oh shit,” I gasped. I had just realized I might have mentioned her name previously. But it was only for a second, I… I…“Oh my God, Emily, I am so sorry. Your name must have slipped out of my mouth earlier. Trust me, I didn't mean to,” I begged. “Trust

Maxton’s POV. I should have stayed in the locker room, it would have been best for me, but I had to play hero. I had to run into the mess, now I'm left wondering how I got myself into this. “Is this how you guys planned to handle it as adults?” Principal Riles continued yelling. She tilted her neck in my direction and glanced at me. “And Maxton, what are you doing here? Now I'm convinced you are attracted to drama,” Of course, I caught a stray. I gazed at Talia, her expression twisting like she was about to cut in. Sharply. “What can I say, principal? I was heading in this direction and…” “Principal Riles, please I have to talk to you,” Micheala stepped forward, crossing her arms in a tight hold. She glanced at Steve and gnashed her teeth. “Steve tried to…” “Nobody is gonna believe you, wrap it up!” Steve growled, storming close to her. “I think you should let the girl speak for herself,” the words just slipped out of my mouth. Steve clenched his fist, his eyes darting angrily

Maxton’s POV. It had been well over twenty minutes since the speakers announced the principal's request for Talia in her office. I guessed she did something wrong, but she was keeping it from me. Not like I cared, I was just curious. “What are you thinking about? Did Aaliyah break your heart?” Johnny snapped me back to reality. I huffed at him and tossed the hand towel on my shoulder into my locker. “It's nothing,” “It doesn't look like that to me.” He sat at the bench. “What now? Are you my father or what?” I gruffed. He frowned for a split second, then curled his eyebrows as I put on a blue tank top. “Hold on, are you… worried about Talia?” “You're crazy,” I hissed, walking out on him. He followed behind me, leaping with a weird smile. “Dude, the principal isn't gonna punish her, she…” “Johnny, can we not do this right now? I'm not thinking about her. I'm with Aaliyah and she's the best I ever had,” Way to end that terribly. It only made Johnny keep teasing me. He ran up

Talia's POV. “Talia Hermen,” the principal pinched the bridge of her nose in exasperation. She heaved a sigh and darted her eyes at me. “Explain yourself.” she said in a commanding tone. Steve gaped at me, his eyes reflecting a pure hatred I never knew he had for me. Somehow, I could see a piece of Zeke in him. They had the same eyes. The same dark spirit. I blinked at principal Riles and swallowed nervously. “Excuse me, why am I here? I hope there isn't any problem.” I said softly. “This bitch!” Steve huffed, looking away with a frustrated smile. “You still have the nerves to lie, do you?” “Don't call me a bitch, you jerk,” I fired. Steve glared at me, then glanced at principal Riles. “Can you believe her? I told you to just kick her out but you wouldn't refuse. Now I have to keep seeing this bum all day,” “Kick me out?” I stepped closer to the principal Riles table. “For what exactly, I don't understand what's going on,” I said with a puzzled look. Principal Riles didn't lo
