LOGINLeona's POV…
SEVEN YEARS LATER… My heels clicked noiselessly on the marble floors as I stepped into the exquisite lobby of Moore’s Arts and Gallery. I knew what was coming, and man, I was super excited for it. Who would believe that I’d be a household name in the art world? And the icing on the cake for me was getting to smear it in the faces of those who never believed in me. “Good morning, Ms. Rivera,” a mid-average guy standing at the reception greeted me with a firm smile, bowing slightly. I returned the greeting with a nod and a bright smile. Next to the lobby was a young woman whom I presumed to be the CPO, waiting for me in a well-tailored cream-colored suit. I could see the admiration and respect in her eyes, and within me, my stomach couldn’t help but do a flip. “Ms. Leona Rivera. You’re welcome to our gallery. It’s our pleasure to have you grace us with your presence,” she gushed. Keeping it simple, I took her hand, which she had stretched forward. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Ms. Rafael,” “If you don’t mind, I’d like to give you a tour of our gallery before we go to the conference room for the meeting,” she suggested. Excitement burned in my stomach, but I kept my cool facade up. I would rather not appear overly enthusiastic since that could give them a negative impression about me. I hadn’t come this far to mess things up with an act of unprofessionalism. “I’d be honored,” I agreed, and she began the tour. The building was magnificent, having state-of-the-art architecture. I couldn't begin to imagine how much money was pumped into this project, and the fact that I was in the process of signing a huge business deal to give this place my touch was mind-blowing. Painting has always been my passion; apart from the fact that it paid my bills, it was something I could do to escape reality. I was in the process of starting my art exhibition when Alicia, my best friend who also doubled as my manager, got into a conversation with Ms. Rafael, who wanted me to work with them. Coming here today was just for formalities' sake, as the deal was already mine. There were beautiful paintings fixed in strategic areas on the wall. On the floor were antiques: old clocks, wooden bowls colored with paints, miniature statues of past presidents and altruistic citizens that had contributed positively to the country, among other items. We got to an empty section. The wall seemed like it had been freshly painted, bare and ready to be occupied. “There’s nothing here,” I stated the obvious. “That’s because this place has been exclusively set aside for you.” My jaw dropped in genuine shock and elation. “What do you mean?” She flashed me a warm smile. “We are waiting for you to do your magic with this section.” I couldn’t hold back my excitement anymore as I snapped my lips shut, covering my mouth to keep myself in check. “It’s unbelievable.” “We can go to the conference room and finalize the details.” ~~~~~~~ In the big room were the company’s lawyer, Ms. Rafael; Alicia, who just arrived a few minutes ago; and me. The lawyer, Mr. Trayton, passed the file containing the contract to Alicia, who was also a lawyer. A sample copy had already been sent a week before I got here, so it didn’t take her so long to browse through. While she was at it, Ms. Rafael continued to fill me in with her expectations of me for the company. “Any artwork supplied to us will be exclusive to us alone,” she pointed out. “That’s not a problem,” I agreed. She continued to elaborate on other things, and then Alicia signaled to me that she was done revising the contract. “It’s all good,” she said. “Okay then.” I collected the file and signed where I should. Ms. Rafael signed on the document as well as the lawyer. “Congratulations, Ms. Rivera. We’re happy to have you onboard,” she said to me and exchanged a handshake again with me while Alicia did the same with the lawyer. “I won’t disappoint you,” I assured her. “I trust you wouldn’t. Have a productive day,” she said and walked out of the room. Alone with Alicia, I let out the scream I’d been holding in since the beginning of the meeting. I did the belly dance that my body had been itching to do with Alicia jumping happily. “I can’t believe this,” I chirped. She chuckled, returning to her chair. “You’d better believe it. You’ve worked so hard all these years, so trust me when I say that you deserve every good thing that is coming your way.” Feeling a bit emotional, I leaned against her. “I guess I do. The week after I was transferred was hell for me. You weren’t there, and the loneliness coupled with my parents’ disappointment and my heartbreak nearly damaged me. Back then, the only thing that kept me going was my goals, and I’m achieving them already.” “Every disappointment is a blessing, friend. If Conrad hadn’t broken your heart, you wouldn’t have seen the need to go an extra mile with your craft.” I nodded, ignoring the little void in my heart. My current relationship was great, but the emptiness that lurked within it couldn’t be dismissed. “Speaking of disappointments, I’m going to give my parents the good news. They’ll be so happy for me,” I yapped. “You should,” she encouraged me. “And we should also head out.” I stood up without noticing that my phone was resting on my thighs, and then it dropped to the ground. “Umm, just give me a minute; I’ll be with you shortly.” The stupid device had slipped under the table, causing me to stoop down so that I could pick it up. The screen was still intact, fortunately. I was slowly retreating beneath the table when I felt a tap at the small of my back. I flinched, my head colliding against the table. “What's the problem?” I rasped, nursing the sore spot while turning around. I blinked once, and then twice. My tongue tasted like copper. My hand dropped to the side, my poor heart racing faster than an F1 car on a race track as I stared at the man in front of me. Nothing prepared me for this distasteful kind of surprise. Anger washed over me instantly, my fingers balling into fists. I spewed out a question. “What are you doing here, Conrad?” My voice was rough. I didn't bother to mask my anger. His firm lips curved into a cocky smirk. “I own the place, baby.”Leona's POV… "Who is C.M?” He queried a bit too harshly as if he'd already cracked the code. “I don't know who that is,” I lied, digging my teeth into my lower lip to stop it from trembling. He glanced at the note, then back to me. The doubt in his eyes was visible. “I'm hoping it isn't the person I think it is.” “Who is it?” “Conrad Moore,” he blurted without hesitating. “He's the only one with that initial. Are both of you still seeing each other?” My chest rose, falling heavily. I lowered my lashes so that he wouldn't be able to see through me. “Why would I want to see him after everything he did to me? That man hurt me deeply, and I'm not sure if I'd ever be able to forgive him,” at least, this was true. “It could be someone else with the same initials like me.” “I hope that's the case because I still hate him f
Leona's POV… “You must be out of your mind,” I snarled. His chortle rubbed off wrongly against my skin. If only he knew how much his presence irritated me; he'd have avoided me, but he wasn't making an effort to stay away from me. To him, this was a game where I could be his pawn, where he thought he could bend me as he willed. Unfortunately for him, he was in for a huge surprise if he thought that I'd give in to his desires. “But I'm not, sweetheart. I got the house a few weeks ago because it suits my purpose…” “Which is being a thorn in my flesh,” I completed for him. “You’re insane, Conrad. How did I even have a crush on you back then?” I was pissed at my naivety because I was too blind to see that I was madly in love with an obsessive psycho. This wasn't what I expected when returning to Texas. I'd looked forward to spreading my wings here, establishing my name as an art
Conrad’s POV… I missed her—her hearty smile, her soft feminine voice, her presence, and her scent. It stayed the same. It was one of the things I looked forward to when I arranged our meeting today. It was the main reason I didn't let her leave when she wanted because I wanted to take in the strawberry fragrance that emanated from her body. She'd changed. Her cherry red hair which was usually held in two loose ponytail tails back in college now bounced wildly around her shoulders. She wore it shorter now. The big ugly glasses she formerly wore to class had been replaced with rimless glasses, giving her a polished appearance. Her body had developed beautifully with those wide hips and pronounced cleavage that could make a man drool. I wouldn't deny that I got hard when I saw her again today. I should have apologized to her for the past, but watching her fume and threaten to end the contract made me change my mind. If she thought that I'd let her go that easily, she'd be j
Leona's POV… I burst into a high-pitched laughter, my legs nearly staggering at the intensity of my outburst. He kept his gaze on me, the smirk only deepening as he waited for me to regain composure. “With this joke, there won't be a need for me to attend any stand-up comedy show on Friday,” I cackled, clutching onto my stomach while searching for a towel to wipe my eyes. “But I'm not. Moore’s Arts and Gallery is a private establishment owned by me. I had the name changed after buying it from the previous owner. Why do you think it's still being renovated?” He laid out the evidence smoothly and confidently. My heart raced as it started to make sense. Conrad could be anything but not a liar, even though he lied to me back then. But then Moore was his surname, which was the same name as this gallery. “You bought this place?” I questioned, my temper rising, the discovery slapping me hard in the face. “Isn't that obvious?” he answered bluntly. I'd murder Alicia if she knew a

Leona's POV…My face was a literal bucket of tears as I gauged the reaction of the students watching the video. It was uploaded on the school’s website, so there was no student that wouldn’t have seen it. I couldn’t take in the remaining details of the video as anger roared in my veins. “Give me a minute, Alicia. I need to see someone.”Her fingers gripped my wrist tightly, preventing me from moving away from her. “Leona, you’re trending all over the school’s website for the worst reasons, and you think wandering around would help you sort out this issue?” “Yes, they will because I get to confront the idiot who thinks embarrassing me like this is the best thing to do.” I shoved her hand off my wrist and sauntered away, leaving her gobsmacked.I knew that she was worried about me, but there were issues that just had to be sorted out alone, and this was one of them. In urgent strides, I located Conrad’s class. He was just coming out of a class, a bag slung over his shoulder, when I
