Chapter 7

مؤلف: Spicy Duck
The bodyguard slammed Alistair hard onto the ground. Geri spat, "You never learn, do you?"

Alistair curled up on the ground, unable to recover for a long time.

A flicker of surprise flashed through Geri's eyes. She wondered why he looked like he was in so much pain. She'd clearly instructed the bodyguard not to use much force.

Just as she was about to step forward, Jonah said, "Geri, he must've wanted to hurt me because he's jealous that I'm your boyfriend. What if he ends up smashing me into a coma, too?"

Darkness clouded Geri's face. The hand she had been about to extend to help Alistair up froze midair. A moment later, she withdrew it and signaled for a bodyguard to haul him to his feet.

"Quit playing dead and apologize to Jonah!" she snapped.

Alistair just looked at her numbly. "Geri, you hate me, right?"

His voice was very soft, almost weightless. "Then just kill me."

Corey was gone. Alistair didn't think there was a point in living anymore. For an instant, the whole world seemed to go dark.

A storm of rage, mixed with emotions too complicated to understand, rose inside Geri.

She couldn't believe his audacity. A sinner like him had lived perfectly well all this time. What right did he have to ask for death now?

Geri dragged Alistair along and forced him into the car. Inside, she bound him with restraints.

The moment he saw the toys she and Jonah had used before, humiliation and fury flooded his chest.

"Geri Winslow! What are you going to do to me? Let me go! Take those dirty things you and Jonah used away from me! Take them away! You're a joke. Aren't I your sworn enemy? Is this how you treat all your enemies?" he shouted.

Geri suddenly dropped a kiss on his neck. His eyes flew open, and he struggled even more frantically..

She slapped him across the face, her tone icy and detached as she said, "What? Seven years ago, you hurt my mother. Seven years later, you hurt my boyfriend. Wasn't it all because you wanted me? I'm giving myself to you now. Why are you acting all shy?"

The slap itself hadn't been hard, but Alistair felt as if his bones had shattered. "I don't want you anymore, Geri. I stopped wanting you a long time ago."

He no longer dared to want her, nor did he wish to want her.

Alistair went still, as calm and empty as dead water. It only made the weight in Geri's chest grow heavier.

She reminded herself again that no matter how pitiful he seemed, it was nothing but the retribution he deserved. He was unworthy of her pity.

So, she twisted the knife again. "What do you mean you don't want me anymore? Is it because you don't want to be a side piece? But with how vicious you are, calling you a side piece is a compliment."

She continued her advance, but Alistair turned his head away, dodging her kisses. "No."

He turned back and fixed his gaze on her, enunciating, "Anyone else can sleep with me. Anyone but you."

The temperature in the car plummeted. Geri froze like an ice sculpture, then let out a short, disbelieving laugh, followed by a wave of murderous fury.

"Take us to the slums."

The car quickly headed toward the slums. Trash was scattered everywhere. The streets were filthy and chaotic, and vagrants and beggars huddled on every corner.

Geri's voice was terrifyingly calm. "Alistair, I'll give you one last chance. Take back what you just said—"

He cut her off, saying, "What, have you gone deaf, too? Then I'll say it again. Any man can use me, and any woman can have me. You're the only person who can't."

Alistair shrank against the car window, with both hands clamped over his abdomen as he tried to ease the stabbing pain. "You disgust me."

Geri's chest rose and fell violently. Anger shot straight to her head.

"Fine," she bit out.

Then, she dragged Alistair out of the car and shoved him toward a blind woman who had been begging on the sidewalk. "From now on, you're going to spend the rest of your life with her. Don't let me see you anywhere outside the slums. If I do, your brother will suffer an even worse fate than you!"

His brother?

A bitter smile tugged at Alistair's lips. He no longer had a brother.

The car door slammed shut with a heavy thud. Geri snapped, "Guard this place. Don't let him take a single step out of this area. And I don't ever want any updates on him again!"

She'd been such a fool, pining all these years for a vile bastard like Alistair. She never wanted to see a wretch like him again!

She left, ruthless and resolute. She had no idea that the moment she was gone, Alistair—whose body had already been pushed past its limits—hacked up a mouthful of blood.

The one-eyed homeless woman panicked and tried to wipe it away for him.

In his daze, Alistair let out a self-deprecating laugh. He never would've imagined that, in the very last moments of his life, the only bit of warmth he would feel would come from a beggar.

"D-Don't die. I'll take you to the hospital," the woman said, her words slurred.

Alistair pulled out a bank card and said, "No need. The PIN is the last six digits of the card number. There's 30,000 dollars in here—enough for you to live on for a while. All I ask is that you buy a cheap urn.

"Then, go to the reform school and claim my brother's body. His name was Corey York. He loved being clean, so make sure his urn looks nice."

His voice grew softer and weaker until it faded into silence. Right before everything went black, he hoped that Geri would never find out the truth.

A low-key luxury car worth millions of dollars pulled into the slums. The rundown apartment building where Alistair and Stella had lived for the past three years had rusted pipes, broken bricks, and cheap plastic flowers taped here and there for decoration. Flimsy but twinkling fairy lights were strung on the balcony, and childish, brightly colored cutout shapes were plastered on the yellowed windows.Stella had put all of that up by herself after she learned that Alistair was coming back. Her face was still bruised from the day Geri had hit her, but her smile was gentle. It was completely at odds with the dark, empty eye socket and the twisted scar that cut across her features. She cooked a feast of all Alistair's favorite dishes and now stood there rubbing her hands together, waiting nervously for him to arrive. When she saw him get out of the luxury car, she hurried to him in delight, looking him over from head to toe. "Ali, did she hurt you at all?"He smiled and shook his hea

Every day, Geri forced Alistair to take his medicine, get injections, go through chemotherapy, and take nutritional supplements.Whenever he refused to cooperate, she would use Stella to threaten him. This tactic filled Geri with jealousy and heartache, but it worked every single time.Under Geri's meticulous care, Alistair's complexion visibly improved day by day. He even put on some weight. She was delighted to see him seemingly getting better. She thought she would be able to save him. But when she took him to the hospital for another checkup, the test results shattered all her hopes in an instant. The report indicated that there had been no actual improvement in Alistair's condition. The expensive targeted drugs and special medications hadn't been able to stop the spread of the cancer cells at all. Alistair's life hadn't been extended, not even for a moment. He had less than a month left.Geri held the report in her hands. Around her, all the doctors and nurses stood with the

The sun shone bright over the secluded garden in Geri's private residence. Alistair sat under the shade of a large patio umbrella in a loose, comfortable set of loungewear, a book in his hands.Geri stared at his thin yet handsome profile, completely entranced. A long while passed before she finally headed toward him with his medicine. She took the book from his hands and said, "Ali, it's time for your medicine."Annoyed at having his train of thought interrupted, he turned away, clearly disgusted. It had been a full month since Geri had knocked Alistair out and brought him to this private residence. Every day, medical staff went in and out of the place. Alistair underwent chemotherapy, took targeted drugs and his prescribed medication, and endured acupuncture…His hair, already dry and brittle to begin with, had all fallen out. Now, he could only wear a fisherman's hat to cover his bare, bald head.Geri's patience didn't waver in the face of Alistair's resistance. She said, "Ali

One sentence from Alistair was enough to make all of Geri's emotions surge at once. She threw her arms around him and held him tight."No! Ali, if she's your wife, then what am I? We agreed back then that we'd get married once we graduated from college. That promise is ten years late, but I'm here to take you home now. From now on, you don't have to stay with this trash and suffer anymore!" she cried.Alistair gently pushed her away and walked over to the blind woman. He carefully helped her up, his voice low and full of concern as he asked her if she was okay. Then, he turned to Geri and said, "There's no need for you to worry, Ms. Winslow. I don't feel like I'm suffering with my wife. I'm actually truly grateful you abandoned me here back then. Otherwise, I never would've met someone as wonderful as her. Also, she's not trash. She has a name. It's Stella Lakeworth. I'm the one who named her."Geri felt as if her heart were being sliced open. For a moment, she couldn't tell whethe

There was no rebirth, no second chance. George had been dead for ten years, and Corey was dead, too. As for Alistair… Geri didn't even know where he was buried. She hadn't changed anything. She was just a pitiful soul who had been dragged back from the brink of death after trying to end her life. After what happened, Stuart no longer dared to lock Geri up. She went to the slums and stood at the very intersection where she had abandoned Alistair back then. She sent people to search for him, but no matter how long they searched, they couldn't find a single trace of him.The slums were just as filthy and rundown as ever, little changed from before. But the beggars and drifters crowding the streets were a completely different group of people. She couldn't even find the blind beggar from back then.It was as if Alistair had vanished into thin air. She was back to a time when Alistair, Corey, and George were all still alive.Everything could still be changed!Geri didn't hesitate for even a second and headed straight for the equipment room. When she arrived, a few boys were in the middle of throwing volleyballs at Alistair.Ball after ball slammed into his legs and stomach. He could only curl up in the corner and hug his head to protect himself. He waited for an opening, then suddenly grabbed a volleyball and hurled it straight at the ringleader's face. The boy took the hit square on the nose. His rage flared as he stormed toward Alistair."Son of a bitch. You've got some nerve hitting me, you punk!" Still cursing, he lifted his cleat and started to bring his foot down on Alistair's arm.Alistair was outnumbered, and he had nowhere to run. He was in real danger.Just then, someone kicked the boy aside—not hard
