Xander

It’s her eyes.

Dark green, intense, and mesmerizing. They hold you captive without even trying. And to top it off, she’s fucking gorgeous. I’ve seen beautiful women—some even more stunning—but there’s something about her. Something captivating. Alluring. Seductive. Like a siren luring her next victim.

Unfortunately for her, that victim won’t be me.

I know better than to get involved in office romance, even if it’s with a sexy, green-eyed goddess. Besides, I have more pressing issues that need my utmost attention—like finding the people responsible for my parents’ tragedy… and getting rid of Yasmine.

“So,” I begin, retrieving her file and scanning through it, “your credentials are impressive, and I was told your interview results were excellent. Congratulations.”

“Thanks. I’ve always wanted to be a part of Nowelle. It’s such a great company with massive potential, and I want to contribute in any way I can to its growth.”

“Good.”

I drop the file back onto the table and focus on her again. My gaze drifts down her body. Long legs—shapely and smooth.

Suddenly, I imagine her naked, wearing only those pumps, her legs wrapped around my waist as I pin her against the wall. Her eyes rolling back in ecstasy, teeth sinking into her plump bottom lip—

Fuck!

What is wrong with me? Am I acting like a pervert now?

Maybe it’s been too long since I had sex. That could explain these unwanted thoughts.

When I meet her gaze again, her eyes have darkened, her head tilting slightly, like she knows exactly what I’m thinking.

“The desk in front of my office is your workstation. Everything you need has already been set up. The company email is logged into your system. I’ll send you my schedule for the week—I want to be informed of any engagements a day prior.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Also—” I hand her the files that were dropped on my desk this morning. Our fingers brush lightly, and the contact sends a jolt through me. I ignore it. “I need photocopies of these delivered back to me as soon as possible.”

“Noted. Will that be all, sir?”

“Yes.”

She turns to leave, carrying that sweet lavender scent with her.

The door shuts. I exhale slowly.

I really don’t need this distraction.

I’ll observe her this week. If she performs well, she stays. If not, I’ll ask Mrs. Norma to move her to another department and hire a new secretary.

Later that day

The day went smoothly.

After she dropped off the files, I neither called for Evelyn nor saw her. Occasionally, I heard her voice outside my office, chatting with other employees.

I appreciated the silence. I’ve never been one for crowds. I enjoy solitude—it gives me room to think and focus. And right now, I need that more than ever.

A soft knock pulls me from my thoughts.

“Enter.”

The door opens and Evelyn steps in. “Sir, there’s someone here to see you. He says his name is Mike.”

Ah, yes. Mike. I’ve been expecting him.

“Let him in.”

Seconds later, Mike strolls into the room. He whistles as he looks around.

“What would it take to swap offices for a day?”

“You admitting I’m the handsome one.” I smirk.

“Fuck you. Pigs will fly before that happens.” He grins.

Mike is like a brother.

We’ve been close since childhood—same schools, same circles. We joked about our first sexual experiences, played wingman for each other.

While I prepared to take over my father’s company, Mike chased his dream of becoming an FBI agent.

He’s been there for me through everything—especially after the accident. He’s the only one who knows the full truth about my father’s condition. He’s also the lead investigator on the case.

“So…” he sits, a wicked gleam in his eye. “Who’s the Delilah outside your office?”

Of course.

Nothing with a pretty face escapes Mike’s attention. He’s a woman addict and an insufferable charmer—he could talk the pants off a nun.

“My secretary. And no—she’s not available. Find someone else to flirt with.”

“Why? Is she married? In a relationship? Or…” he leans in, “you’re interested, and you’re scared I’ll charm her away—just like in high school. Admit it, man. You can’t compete with my charisma. You’re too buttoned up.”

I shoot him a hard look.

“Girls? You mean Nancy? For the record, I was never interested in her. She wanted me. When she realized she couldn’t get me, she settled for an easier target. You.”

“At least I got to fuck her. Wildfire in bed. Real submissive.”

I narrow my eyes. “Are you here to talk about your conquests, or do you actually have something for me?”

He straightens, his expression turning serious.

“We found the truck that crashed into your parents’ car that day.”

Evelyn “He’s so handsome. I could tell his attention lingered on me more,” one of the girls beside me whispered dreamily.I rolled my eyes. I was certain he didn’t even spare her a glance. If only they knew what monsters he and his father were, they wouldn’t be so easily swayed by his looks.“Such a shame he’s engaged to that witch. Gives her all the more reason to treat us like trash,” the second girl sighed heavily.Yasmine. I remembered her from the charity ball. She hadn’t exactly been warm or welcoming.“Isn’t she supposed to resume as an intern today? Or is she exempted because she’s his...”“What are we talking about?” a sweet, falsely innocent voice interrupted.I looked up to find the very same lady from the charity ball standing behind them, a sugary smile plastered on her face. The two girls exchanged a guilty glance before muttering excuses and hurrying away.“Oh my, I didn’t think I was that scary,” she laughed lightly, then turned to me, offering her hand with a genuine

Evelyn I arrived at Nowelle at exactly 8 a.m. Out of the four candidates who applied for the position of personal secretary, I was the one selected. I’m pretty sure my uncle had something to do with it—how, I don’t know.I’d carefully chosen my outfit for the day: a tailored black blazer mini-dress that stopped two inches above my knees. On my feet were my favorite nude pumps—four inches high, perfectly shaping my legs.Holding my head high, I stepped into the bustling lobby. Men and women in sharp corporate suits bustled about, immersed in their routines. I made my way to the receptionist’s desk.“Hi. Good morning. What can I do for you?” the lady behind the counter smiled warmly.“Good morning. I’m Evelyn Laprell, the new P.A. to Mr. Black. I was told to resume work today and meet with Mrs. Norma from the recruitment team.”“Ah, yes. You’re to join the other interns in the boardroom on the third floor. You’ll receive your ID there.”“Thanks.” I returned her smile and headed to the

EvelynI arrive at my uncle’s house at exactly noon. Since last night, my head’s been a mess—mostly filled with thoughts of Xander. Screw him. I hate him, and I hate the way he made me feel. Thank God things didn’t escalate on that balcony. It’s a good thing he walked away when he did.My uncle had demanded my presence today to restructure our initial plan. The goal remains the same—revenge.“Yooo, Señorita. Looking good as always… hmm, that ass though,” Felix whistles as I walk past him. He’s working on a motorcycle, all grease and grins.I roll my eyes and flip him off. Ever the flirt.Felix has worked for my uncle for as long as I can remember. He’s the only one of my uncle’s men I ever talk to—not that I’m complaining. I don’t like people in my space.I walk through the empty hallway until I reach my uncle’s office door. I knock once.“Enter.”The sharp scent of aged leather, tobacco, and expensive bourbon greets me as I step in. The dark-paneled walls are lined with heavy bookshe

XanderYasmine has been yapping for over five minutes now about a Chanel bag that just came out and is available in limited quantity. I couldn’t care less. I’m sure she’s telling me this because she wants me to get it for her. That’s how it always is with her—designer bags, shoes, clothes, whatever suits her fancy. Pretty things. It’s why she has always wanted me, ever since we were kids. This whole engagement happened because of her. I’ll never forget the day my father told me I was to marry her. That was sixteen years ago. I was twelve, and I had just told a seven-year-old Yasmine that I didn’t like her the way she liked me.Being the little brat that she was, she ran off to her dad and told him she wanted me as her next birthday gift. As if that struck some kind of business strategy, he proposed a deal to my dad—and just like that, my future became tied to Yasmine’s.“Xander! Are you even listening to me?” she snaps, her lips pursed in a frown. It’s the morning after our engagement

Evelyn“Evelyn? Evelyn, are you all right?” Natasha’s voice breaks me out of my trance-like state. I close my eyes for a moment, then blink them open and force a smile.“I’m fine.”“Are you sure? You looked like you’d seen a ghost.”Maybe I had. I still can’t believe that the man I had a moment with not too long ago is the same man I came here for—the son of the man who murdered my parents. I feel like I’ve failed. Failed my parents. Failed my uncle… My uncle.I can’t lose focus now, but I don’t know what to do. I’m so confused. My eyes find Xander across the room, talking with a group of men. I study him. I hate to admit it, but he’s strikingly handsome. Back when he had the mask on, I knew he was going to be good-looking, but I didn’t expect him to look this good. And it irritates me—both with myself and with him. I’m annoyed that I allowed myself to be swayed by him, to feel something for him.Why did he have to be Xander? Why?As if sensing my gaze, his eyes connect with mine. I h
