Chapter -8 Death of Alpha

Kilan was the first to speak, and he was barely audible, “What happened here?“ He asked, tears garnering up in his hazel eyes. It was the first hazel eyes Rizine ever came across, and it was alluring and held a dose of warmth a few minutes ago in their palace. Right now, all his eyes held were tears and unanswered questions.

She was trembling and she hated it. And one swipe of her gaze over her appearance, she thought she looked like the culprit. Her hands were covered in blood, she was shaking in fear, she couldn't say a single word in her defense, and just let them judge her with their eyes. She looked guilty, even when she wasn't.

It was unfair to her the way they were reacting right now. How could they not let her speak first before tagging her as the murderer? Even without them saying it, she could see it in their eyes. And it only made her lack the coordination to speak up for herself.

“What did you do?!“ This time, it was Milan's glacial voice sending shudders down her spine. She glanced up at him, and ample tears rolled down her eyes.

Milan had green eyes, and they held a mystic aura and had a depth that drowns you in. Those green eyes were squinting fire at her right now, and she felt burnt under his smoldering gaze.

“I didn't–“

Tears clogged her voice and she found it impossible to say everything she badly needed to say. If only she wasn't crying so much, then maybe she could tell them how innocent she was. But her tears were making it hard for her to speak.

”The hell you didn't!“ Milan howled, baring his claws, ready to pounce on her.

Watching him almost shift into his wolf form kicked in her self-defense and she quickly began taking steps backward. His claws were sticking out, ready to wound around her neck. She feared what he might do to her if she stood there any longer.

“Don't you dare take another step!” Kilan yelled at her, forcing her to a halt.

He was trying to keep his brother from losing his mind and probably killing her in cold blood. At the same time, he was keeping an eye on her so she doesn't run away. She, the supposed murderer of his Father.

“Let go of me, Kilan. Fucking let go!“ Milan howled murderously but his brother held him tighter.

”If you kill her right now, then that's not the justice Father deserves. We got to let the whole world know what she did to us. Then we punish her according to our law, bro,” Kilan said, hoping that'll bring Milan back to his senses.

Milan eased, but his gaze was still on Rizine, burning her up in flames.

Rizine was weak at the knees and slumped on the ground, tears rolling profusely down her eyes. She hadn't seen this twist coming. Nothing prepared her for this moment, so right now, she wasn't sure how to react.

She was forced to snap out of her thoughts when she realized she was surrounded by warriors. With their stance and the reverence they gave the twins, she could tell they were the warriors from the twins' pack.

“Take her to the pack dungeon,“ Milan ordered, pointing at her like she was a piece of garbage.

“I didn't kill him–” Rizine tried again to come to her rescue, but she was already scooped from the ground and was getting dragged away.

Kilan could not keep his tears in check. He walked over to his Father's corpse and bent over to close his eyes. He'd died with his eyes open, not a befitting death for an Alpha.

“Take him to the morgue. Get him dressed and ready to be cremated,“ Kilan said amidst tears. He stood and turned to his brother, Milan.

Milan said no words and no tears left his eyes either. But you could see the rage in his clenched jaw and his red eyes with the hunger to kill.

Milan was legendary for his temper. He was never one who was big on showing his emotions. Kilan, however, was the softie between the two. Crying came easy to him, and so does goof around.

They returned to the palace and broke the news to the palace council and the elders. Sounds of wailing and screaming filled the pack. It was a hell of a night for everyone, a dark, bitter night.

Alpha Jared would always be remembered and his death would never go unavenged. That's for sure.

Milan was graced on his chair in the study he shares with his brother. It was the wake-keeping of his Father. According to their law, when an Alpha dies, he gets buried the next day.

Kilan was over there, organizing the event but Milan couldn't bring himself to attend. He stayed locked up in his study, dressed in a black robe which was the significance of his mourning.

Brooding and fucking lost in thought, he didn't notice the door open. Damon walked in, sliding into one of the leather seats.

“Bro,“ He snapped his fingers on Milan's face, jolting him from his thoughts.

Milan sighed heavily, leaning back on his chair, “What are you doing in here? You should be helping Kilan out,”

Damon was his and Kilan's Beta. More than that, he was their best friend. They all go way back to their toddler days.

“Kilan is holding up great. He got everything under control. I came to check on you,“

”You didn't have to. I'm sane,” Milan blurted out, emphasizing that he wasn't suicidal so he didn't have to be checked on.

”You might be sane, but your mind isn't with you. What's eating you up?“

“I just lost my Father, go figure,“

“Don't play dumb with me, man. It's more than that. I know there's something down there, something you don't wanna talk about,“

Milan puffed, staring at the ceiling with his fingers intertwined and his head resting on the seat.

Damon was right. Something was eating him up. It was her, the damned frail girl who seemed like a damsel in distress and swept him off his feet. Only to run off and murder his Father in cold blood.

He felt stupid, used, played with, insulted, and broken. The first time he was feeling a sort of attraction to a girl and it has such a catastrophic ending. He was more than eager to make her stay with them. She had him intrigued at first sight and he hadn't hesitated in chasing that unknown feeling.

And for what? To get his Father killed? Right now, he was furious and wanted nothing more than to snap her neck. But deep down, that feeling still lingered. He still found her mesmerizing. And that's what was eating him up.

She was a murderer, killed his Father, and made a fool out of them. Still, his stupid heart raced a mile at the thought of her. And there was this connection he felt towards her that he still wanted to unravel. Kilan feels it too. But he thinks he feels it more.

“I'm such an idiot, man,“ Milan admitted to Damon, shutting his eyes briefly in immense pain. The biggest idiot in the world, that's what he was.
