Chapter 32 - Katie

I don’t know how to do this. I also really don’t want to do this, but I must.

Casper was so scared, and he was still trembling while he was visiting Jenny and even now when we got home.

I gather my strength and remind myself Casper’s safety is the important thing here. He must know he can’t do this again. It is too dangerous.

Shortly after we get home, we all gather in the living room and Casper is still really quiet. At least he has stopped trembling now.

My heart aches seeing him like this.

He has been clinging to me ever since this whole situation has happened. Right now, he is curled up on my lap on the couch with his little arms wrapped tight around me.

As everyone watches, I softly ask, “Cass, can we talk about today?”

He keeps his head buried in my chest as he mumbles, “Do I have to?”

The corners of my mouth curl downward. I gently rub his back and reply, “Yes. We have to talk about today.”

He shuffles closer to me and whines, “But I don’t want to.”
