Chapter 7

Author: Mountain River
Although Don Conway already left the ward, his words and the open diary felt like crushing weights on the Shaws, making it hard for them to breathe.

By the time they got home, night had already fallen. The lights weren't on in the villa, and it was shrouded in a dead silence.

Rebecca followed behind them, trembling. As soon as she stepped inside, she threw herself forward and grabbed Father's arm, trying to beg for mercy.

"Dad, I was wrong…"

Over the past few days, the matters of my death, Don Conway's questioning, and Rebecca's lies had weighed on them so heavily that everyone's nerves were stretched to the breaking point.

At this moment, Rebecca's begging sounded unbearably ironic, and it instantly ignited everyone's fury.

"Get up, Clyde. You'll go with my men," Don Conway said, pointing to Clyde.Clyde nodded numbly and followed Mr. Banks out of the ward. The remaining members of the Shaw family and Yves waited in torment inside the ward, like prisoners awaiting judgment.…Back at the villa, Clyde led Mr. Banks upstairs and pushed open the door to the room he had never voluntarily stepped into. The furnishings in the room were so simple they bordered on shabby, forming a stark contrast to Rebecca's room, which was filled with luxury items.Everything was tidy, yet it also felt cold and lifeless. As he stood in the room, for the first time, Clyde felt an indescribable sensation rise in his chest.Mr. Banks' men moved swiftly and professionally, combing through every single corner.Soon, someone found a repair log on the desk. The arrangements for my funeral were extremely simple, with no obituary or memorial service. The villa remained silent all day long.Mother cried while holding onto a photo of me, Father stayed alone in his study, and Clyde locked himself in his room.Yves had also moved in. He canceled all his work and spent his days in my room. He kept touching my belongings, trying to catch even the faintest trace of me as he did so.Rebecca felt isolated in this suffocating atmosphere. She tried to talk to them several times, but her efforts failed because of their deliberately cold attitude toward her.She was afraid that she would be abandoned by them again.…At dinner, no one touched their utensils.Rebecca finally spoke up, trying to break the silence. "Dad, Mom… I know everyone is sad, but life has to go on. "A few days ago, I gave Don Conway that antique gun. He liked it a lot and even sent someone to deliver a gift in return, saying he had taken note of our family's good intentio

"What did you say?" Father shouted. His hand holding the phone trembled slightly, and his face instantly turned pale. The person on the other end continued, "Ms. Tessa's body is in the morgue on the second floor of Central City Hospital."After hanging up, Father paused to think for a moment. Although he thought it sounded absurd, he decided to go personally to confirm the matter since it was in this hospital anyway.Just as he was about to turn toward the morgue, Rebecca called out to him softly from her hospital bed, "Dad, where are you going?"Her expression was full of understanding as she comforted him, "Don't worry, Dad. Isn't this just another one of Tessa's pranks? She knows we refuse to believe her, so she probably sent someone to pretend to be a doctor this time."She was fine just now, so how can she suddenly be dead? She's done this before, doing anything to get our attention. We can't let her succeed this time."Father paused. Indeed, I had always lied endlessly and

The living room was in a disarray.Yves held the unconscious Rebecca and anxiously called out her name.Father immediately instructed the driver. "Get the car ready! We're going to the hospital!"Soon, large patches of red rashes appeared on Rebecca's neck and arms. It looked like an extremely severe allergic reaction.Mother suddenly screamed. She rushed up to me, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at me. "It must be your doing! Tessa, can't you even be more tolerant of Rebecca?"A loud smack rang across the room as a slap landed on my face, making it burn with pain.I turned my head from the hit and instinctively raised my hand to cover my face as blood trickled from the corner of my mouth."I didn't…""You still dare to deny it?" Mother trembled with anger, and she raised her hand as if to strike again."Enough!" Father shouted, stopping her. However, his gaze toward me was just as cold.He added, "Tessa, I never imagined you could be so cruel-hearted!"Yves walked past me,
