Jaxton shaked his head.

" It's not as easy as that, Freya."

He paused before continuing. " Getting to you wouldn't have been the top priority, Freya. They were really more concerned with getting those dogs arrested than setting your free. I... I.." He took a deep breath. He looked up and the vulnerability I saw in there had me taking a step back in shock. " I just wanted to get you away from those dogs, Freya, I swear."

I could feel my eyes start to well up with tears. If that had been his intentions why had he become one of them?

" Funny how you got me away from the dogs and became one yourself," I accused.

If I thought he had looked vulnerable before, he looked worse right now. He looked broken and I could see the gulit and shame shining in his eyes brightly. I looked away determined not to let those eyes get to me.

" You took exactly what you were trying to protect and in the worst way possible." My voice cracked and tears rolled down my cheeks, some trailing into my mouth. The
