Chapter 3 The Dinner

Patrice's POV

The Vonne family was seated in front of everyone else. The guests were introduced as they entered the dining hall and took their seats among the round tables. Lady Henda had a plastered smile on her face and gently tilted her head with a bow as every guest was introduced.

Last to come in was the guest of honor, a man with streaks of grey hair but who stood with propriety despite holding a cane. He was the head of the Zeller, a multi-company empire located at an off-shore island twice as big as Hamstead county. Recently, they have announced their interest to expand business in Hamstead County by putting up a twenty-story mall, the tallest building to ever graze the county's skies yet. Everyone seems eager to try to get a contract with them, including the Vonne Family.

Lady Henda stood up and clapped her hands as Mister Zeller walked down the aisle with his male assistant. Everyone else stood up as well.

"Thank you Mister Isaac Zeller for gracing my 65th birthday!" Lady Henda said warmly over the speaker as she spoke using a wireless microphone attached to her gown. She motioned for him to take a seat at the round table right in front of her. She wanted so much to get on the good side of the elderly man to close a deal with him.

"....and thank you everyone for spending your time with me and my family tonight! Please take your seats and enjoy  the sumptuous meal we have prepared for you. "

The dinner was going smoothly with small talks here and there and some jazz music playing over the speakers. Then a thud followed by a loud crashing sound was heard at the side. A man lied sprawled on the floor with several plates and food scattered everywhere around him.

"Resh, you should watch where you're going," Micco said with a smirk on his face. Even without reviewing a CCTV footage, it was pretty obvious that he had done something ruthless.

Some people had a good laugh at the scene. My dad and I rushed to the side but instead of helping him up, my dad scolded him.

"You good for nothing sone-in-law. You bring nothing but shame to our family. "

"Dad..." I tried to complain to quiet him but I knew he was right though.

Resh slowly got up with food all over his shirt. If I remember right, this was one of those shirts given by Grandfather Mikael on his so-called birthdays. So-called,because nobody really knows his real birthday. Even Resh himself is unsure too.

He left without speaking and it angered my dad even more when he doesn't say a thing. After a few minutes he came back wearing an ordinary but clean white shirt. It was so ordinary that even waiters were better dressed than he was. Oh well, it's better than the spoiled old-fashioned shirt he had earlier. With his broad shoulders and well developed chest, it seems I had a body guard next to me. I couldn't help but smile at the thought.
