Someone's POV
Seated at the center of the long table in front was the grand matriarch, Lady Henda. Although celebrating her 65th birthday today, she looks a decade younger still. Thanks to her vanity, she had spent countless hours at 5th Street Salon&Spa and millions of dollars on botox and whatever new beauty technology there was to try.
To her right is her first born son, Richmond Vonne, my father's half brother. Although he is younger by two years, he had the advantage in built and height and bullied my dad ever since they were young. Next to him is another bully, his wife, Leila Vonne. She too is a regular customer at 5th Street Salon&Spa, always enjoying free treatment when she goes with grandma by sweet-talking to her in-law every time. She had been divorced twice before getting married to Richmond but had no children in her previous marriage.
Beside the couple are the fraternal twins, Micah and Micco. Supposedly they are my cousins, but they have treated me so badly it will never cross your mind that we are relatives.
To grandma's left is her infamous daughter Camille, who once held the title of the beauty queen of the country. However, the crown was only with her for three days before it was discovered that she had undergone surgery for her boobs and nose. The pageant council had stripped her of the award for having unnatural beauty. Her reputation was ruined among the eligible bachelors so she had never been married. However, she had been linked to so many married men as a third wheel.
After her was my stepmother, Eliza. Aunt Camille never wanted to be seated next to my father. Before my father got married, an empty chair was between them to keep my father at a distance. When they were young, my aunt would cry endlessly until Dad was moved away from her. That's how a bitchy brat she was. She was ok when my mother came to the household and sat beside her for the first time because my mother was a stunning beauty in her younger years. It had been two years though since my grandfather's death that they no longer talk to each other directly.
Seated next is my cunning stepsister, Yvonne Sales. Although she doesn’t have a single drop of Vonne blood in her veins, but she has a lot of nerve to come for a chance to hook up among the rich invited bachelors or children of
Comes next is my father, David Vonne, the least favored of his generation for the simple reason that he is a son of the deceased first wife of my grandfather. Basically, we are not related by blood to the Matriarch but here we are anyway to pay due respect as a Vonne.
"No wonder I can smell horse dung in here," sneered Micco loud enough for us seated on the other side of the table to hear him.
"Watch your mouth brother. We are in front of food," Micah elbowed him. At least she had the manners as compared to her brother.
She then snorted with disgust while glancing at the man beside me. He is Resh Vonne, our former stable boy, my husband. He also does not have a Vonne blood but since he was adopted by Grandpa and he couldn’t remember his last name, he was allowed to use Vonne as lastname. To every one of them, he was a good for nothing son-in-law of the Vonnes. It still baffles me why my grandfather had us married when he fell terribly ill two years ago. Also, he was given initially a few shares in the company since he turned twenty years old, which we all think he lives by as he remained occupied with housework and grandfather’s horses only.
So these basically are my family or shall I say pseudo-family. I am Patrice Vonne, only child of the first son of the Great Mikael Vonne, a former business tycoon in the world of textile industry.
"Guards!" Mr. Em growled. Security personnel approached us and helped Mr. Em to his feet. He then looked at us with much hatred as he tried to brush off his coat. "You and you," pointing at Mr. So and me, "I will see you in the HR office!" He walked towards the elevator. "Guards, you better join us or this guys will harrass me!" So he was followed by two guards and Mr. So and me. He barged right into the HR office but before he could speak, Mr. Harvey, spoke first. "Mr. Em, what is the meaning of you contacting and sending a file to Brilliant Studio?" The stout man wanted to protested and complain but was interrupted. "Our IT staff discovered an outgoing mail addressed to our competitiors IP. Why would you be communicating with them." Mr. Em caught in his act remained silent. "If you are not planning to give an explanation, then I would have the guards to accompany you out of the building." He suddenly knelt and pleaded. "Please Sir, give me a chance to stay. Please!" H
I was tapping my fingers on the table eagerly waiting for Clyde to make his appearance at the restaurant we agreed to meet at. I chose to have an exclusive booth where no one can see us and I can easily go in and out thru the backdoor. Of course, the restaurant belonged to my grandfather's chain of business and Clyde had already informed them of my passage. Knock...knock... "Get in." "Young master." He was starting to bow and the door was still open behind him. I hurriedly looked down with my cap over my face until I heard the door clicked. "Clyde, in public places like this, make sure nobody sees you bowing to me." I reprimanded him. "I am sorry young master." "Please take a seat." I invited him to a chair across from me. "Before you arrived at the toilet, I heard those two men speaking. The stout guy mentioned about a proposal. What new project do we have?" "Hmmm. The tie up with W*****n Office Co., what else could it be? " "Hahaha" I can't hold my laughter."Seriously?" I
I met Mister So, head of housekeeping who brought me around the building. Mr. Harvey had mentioned before Mister So entered, that the housekeeping head is also a loyal servant of my grandfather. He also gathered the rest of his team and introduced me as a newly hired cleaner. "These are the cleaning supplies you will need. Are you sure you want to clean the men's toilet?" "Yes. Where do the managers go?" "Managers office are at every floor depending on which department they are. but the toilet for them are at the 5th floor." "Okay then. Thank you Mister So, I can take it from here. " I winked at him and waved him off. I took the housekeeping lift and went to the fifth floor. I was restocking the supplies at a cubicle when two men entered. One of them sounded familiar, I wonder where I have heard that voice. They were having a good laugh over something. Then there was silence as both men took a pee at the urinals and one could
That was quite a slap! Before we all had time to react, the intercom rang. I rubbed my cheeks while she went to pick up the phone. The stout guy looked at me sharply as if about to say something but the receptionist was holding on to his hand. "Reception area, good day! ....Yes.....Yes..." "HR..." She whispered looking at the man and pointing to the phone. Then she looks at me. She puts the phone down and told us,"We are to go up to HR office." "Wait, I still have something to do..."the man wanted to object but the the lady was holding on to his hand. "This better not be trouble Trisha!" Trisha. That must be the name of the receptionist. "You too mister," She said to me as she turned in my direction going on ahead with the stout guy. "Don't worry honey. I think this is our chance to work in the same office and I can work on you," she whispered the last sentence but it was still too loud for me to hear. I w
All my bags are packed. I'm ready to go... I was whistling the tune while packing my bag to go to work. Everyone in the house was still asleep so I try to be as quiet as I can. I have to leave the house early to report for my work. Clyde had volunteered to pick me up but I chose to take public transportation instead. He would need to orient me as to the heirarchy in the company as well as introduce the people I would be working with.At six sharp, I was already in the Danovan Sky Tower, a very prominent structure at the heart of the city. There weren't much people yet and reception was still empty. I went to what seem like a lounge and got a cup of coffee from a nearby dispenser. This is good that the company offers free coffee to employees and visitors alike. Clyde sent a message to my phone asking if I was already in the building, I should message him.I ignored his message and finished drinking my coffee until I noticed there was someone in the reception area.
With my height less than an inch from six feet and a muscular built and my wife at five feet three inches and pettite built, I was sure to crush into her if I were to fall over her. I tried to regain my balance in mid air and toppled over close to the table but my head still landing on Bridda's lap."The heck!" She screamed. She immediately stood up and my head hit the edge of the couch."Oucchh!" escaped from my lips. She looked at me with a raised eye brow."Oh sorry," I think I was one with most injury but I was the one apologizing."I think I've had enough for you tonight." She sighed as she packed up her laptop and marched to her room. Why do I get so clumsy with her today? It's a tiring day. Maybe I need rest and think of matters tomorrow. The next day, while everyone was eating the breakfast I prepared, I made the announcement,"Uhmm!" I cleared my throat. "I applied to Danovan Enterprise and I got the job."
I arrived home to see Bridda busy on her laptop still. She looked up, nod as I was closing the door, and went back to her laptop."Why still up?" I asked her. But I really meant to ask why she was outside her room."Why are you home just now?" She asked and stared at me for a moment while waiting for me to answer.I believed I was the first one to ask but moments like this, it is hard to argue. "Uhmm, I asked Borj opinion on some matters. ""I see... Don't worry, I was home before dinner time and ordered food delivery for everyone.""Ohh dang! I forgot....I'm sorry! I was too busy I wasn't aware of the time." Nor did I even noticed I was hungry."Have you had yours?" She asked monotonously without looking away from her screen. Woow, is she concerned about me now?"There's still some left in the fridge. You just have to heat it up." She spoke before I could even answer."Thanks," I replied walking a
So I'm here in the VIP room of Danovan Hospital, gawking at the old man on the bed who had just survived from a fatal heart attack. I think this is just a ploy of his to get me to agree to his plans. Although it's the first time, well there's always a first time to everything."Young Master," Clyde came in to the dim room and walked towards me. "You may leave now.""Thank you. Please update me when he is awake.""Have you spoken to everyone in the mansion? We are not to let anyone know of his condition.""Yes Young Master."I stood up and I was about to turn the knob of the door when I weak elderly voice called out."Resh." It was no longer commanding but making a plea."Resh."I walked to the old man and took hold of his hand."Sir, we will talk when you are feeling better. Please take a rest for now.""You are like your mother. Stubborn." He heaved a sigh and a tear rolled down the side of his left eye.I
"Young Master..." Clyde's voice trailed off as someone seem to have taken the phone from him. "Resh." It was a deep low and commanding voice. "Yes, Mister Danovan?" I asked my grandfather with all formality although I really hated talking to him. "Please come to the mansion." "Why is that?" "I have a car for you." "I don't need a car Grandpa!" I got irritated and tongue slipped. "I mean, Sir." "Clyde will be come to pick you up." Tooot..Tooot.. Conversation done...and they don't even know where I was. Do they have a GPS tracker on me? After five minutes, my phone rang. "Yes Clyde?" "Where am I to fetch you Young Master?" OK good he is asking. So no tracker on me at all. "Come by the cafe in front of Bridda's office." "I am here Young Master." Wait... What? How did that happen? So I'm really being tracked? My doubt starts to increase. I left the cafe and when outside, I looke
