 003: Fake boyfriend

**Jordan Hayes**

When I suggested the fake-boyfriend idea, I half-expected Damien to dismiss it—maybe even call me out on my bullshit. Instead, he shocked me by grabbing the creep by the back of the neck and slamming his face into the bar. He beat him viciously while vociferously declaring I belonged to him and threatening severe consequences to anyone who dared bother me again.

I watched from the corner as Damien hauled the man up, slamming his face down again. Blood dripped onto the chipped wood. Everyone cleared out fast, scattering like they'd seen a ghost.

I should have been relieved someone finally stopped the harassment. Instead, guilt washed over me like a heavy blanket. The bar—once packed—was now empty. My chest tightened until I could barely draw breath. What the hell was I supposed to do now?

Every time I glanced at Matt, he pleaded with his eyes for me to intervene. I straightened and walked toward the chaos.

"Jordan, don't," Noah called, shaking his head, urging me to stay back.

I didn't understand. If we were all too scared to move closer, who would stop Damien from committing murder right here?

"When you look at him—and at all the other whores you've bothered in other bars—do they seem to have anything in common?" Damien barked at the man, forcing his head left and right as he searched for me. "Can you spot the fucking difference?"

The creep sucked in a breath, blood trickling. "I-I don't know."

"You don't know?" Damien pointed at me. "Whores always dress for the job." He waved a hand toward me. "And the one guy you bother? He's dressed like a normal-ass dude."

"That didn't make you realize you were barking up the wrong fucking tree?"

"I was just—" the man tried, but Damien didn't let him finish.

"You were just fucking up." He slammed the man's head into the bar again. The creep wavered, dizzy. "What's the matter? Can't feel your face?" Damien grinned like a maniac. "Shit, is that a tooth?"

A bloody tooth lay on the bar, strings of tissue attached. I glanced up—Matt watched with an irritated scowl but said nothing. I knew why: I was ruining his business.

Guilt knotted tighter. I should stop this, but fear rooted me in place.

Damien's hand tightened around the man's neck. "Let's take this somewhere more private."

He dragged the creep out to the alley, shoving him against the wall. The man bounced off, groaning.

"It was a mistake," the creep cried, voice shaky. "I didn't know who he was or who he was with."

I sucked in a sharp breath as Matt stormed over, deep scowl etched on his face. "What happened? Why's Mr. Voss causing such a huge scene because of you?"

"I... Um," I scratched my neck. Bringing Damien into this suddenly seemed fucking stupid. Why couldn't I think with my head for once?

Noah scurried over, fidgeting with his apron. "I heard someone say he's dating Kim—uh, Mr. Voss."

Matt turned to me, eyes wide. "Is that true?"

I shook my head hastily, mouth refusing to form words. "I..."

"You know my rules, Jordan," Matt barked. "Don't do anything that'll affect my business. I made it clear."

"It's just..." I stuttered, eyes stinging. I wished I could break down into tears. I hated this.

"It's just what?!" Matt snapped. He was furious about his ruined business, but I wished he'd calm down and let me explain. He didn't.

"Making those stupid thugs chase you around here isn't enough? Now my business for today is fucking ruined because you dragged Voss here."

Matt wasn't a bad guy—he was just angry, and he had every reason. But it still hurt that he thought I enjoyed having perverts on my ass.

"You think I enjoyed being molested?" I asked, jaw clenched. "Huh?"

"What?" Matt scoffed. Noah shook his head, signaling me to drop it. But I couldn't.

"Just say it. Just say something about my sexuality." I dared him. I fucking dared him to speak and swear I'd make him regret it.

Matt snorted, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Oh God. Would you please stop being overly dramatic for once?"

"Really?" He thought I was being dramatic?

"I have no problem with you being gay, you know that, right?" Matt asked, but I didn't know if he meant it or was just fronting.

Straight men were the same. They'd never believe a gay man could be assaulted by one of them without asking what the gay guy did to "provoke" it.

Letting out a shaky breath, I sighed. "Maybe I should just go home. It's past my shift anyway."

"You should," Matt said dismissively.

"Fuck that shit," I muttered, grabbing my backpack from the counter. I slung it over my shoulder and walked away. Noah called after me.

"Jordan..."

"I'll see you tomorrow, Noah." I gently pushed past him and left the bar.

Anger clouded my vision as I walked down the bustling road of Nexus Point, blindly taking the path to my apartment.

"Like it's my fault all his customers are freaking perverts?" I yelled, ignoring harsh glares from passersby. "Fuck him very much." I didn't care who heard. They could all go to hell.

I was already on my street when I noticed a black car tailing me. I tried to convince myself it was nothing, but when I slowed, the car slowed too. When I stopped, it stopped.

"What's that?" I whispered, swallowing hard and quickening my pace.

I reached my apartment, fumbled the key, rushed inside, and slammed the door. Peering through the keyhole, I saw the car was gone.

Weird.

"I saw that car... Or did I imagine it?" I shook my head, shrugged, and collapsed onto the couch.

I was about to toss my backpack aside when my phone buzzed.

I pulled it out and scowled—it was Ethan calling.

I answered and snapped, "If you're calling to beg me to bring a girl home to fix things with your parents, I'm not interested."

"Jordan..." Ethan's voice was low.

"Is that disgust I sense in your tone?" I hissed.

"Stop being a dick and listen." He snorted.

I rolled my eyes. Always the perfect one.

"Fine. What?" I grumbled, tossing my backpack down.

He took a breath; the line went quiet. "I think the Voss family is after Dad. I almost got shot today."

"So please, wherever you are, be careful."

"The... the what?" I sprang up, panting. This wasn't what I'd expected from my brother.

"Oh God! Something happened. I'll call you later." His voice turned urgent.

"Ethan... Wait—Jesus!" The call ended.

My heart hammered. Damien's sudden appearance at work. The strange car. Ethan's call out of nowhere.

I rushed to the window. A figure stepped out my front door, got into a black car, and sped away.

"It's that car from earlier," I gasped, hand over my mouth to stifle a scream.

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   ACT AS MY BOYFRIEND FIR FIVE MINUTES

Jordan HayesTwo things I loved the most today — if you take out the surprise kiss I got from Damien earlier — was that we were having a good business day, and most of the customers were those who knew nothing about makeup.I loved helping new people get familiar with the colorful world of makeup. I always loved the delightful look they always pulled on whenever I showed them that there were more to makeup than just mascara and lipstick. This guy that was with me right now, Dave, came here to get makeup for his girlfriend as a gift and he knew little to nothing about makeup. He had been following me around the store for the past thirty minutes as I showed him different things he could get for his girlfriend and she would love it.

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   JEALOUSY

Damien VossAll I had to do today was boring clerical shit. Sitting behind an office desk, staring at the monitor and going through reports, documents and accounts and… Shit!I hated work that didn’t require violence. That was why I always pushed office work to one side until I couldn’t ignore them anymore. Before, I would have taken my time, using half of the day glaring at the system before I got to actual work, but today was different. As soon as I clocked in after dropping Jordan off at the smoothie shop, all I wanted to do was to get today’s work over with. I didn’t waste any second before I got to work and worked on the files like a fucking pro.My hand unconsciously flew to my lips and I bit down on my lower lip, grinning as I shook my head. I didn’t believe I actually kissed Jordan, right in the open in front of his work place.“Okay, I have gut.” I chuckled, dragging my bottom lip into my mouth and sucked on it.The way Jordan rushed into the shop and he forced himself out of

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   KISS

Jordan HayesWaking up to an empty space beside me on the bed each morning, after Carlos had come over to my place, was no longer a new thing. But I didn’t know why I was feeling a pang of sadness this morning when I woke up to find Carlos gone.Last night, before we went to bed, Carlos had told me he was sick and tired of his father and that he would love to move in with me — just for a short term.Even though he wouldn’t tell me why he suddenly wanted to move out of his father’s house after refusing to leave all this while, it made me wonder just how bad things were for him at home.I was indebted to Carlos for everything he had done for me when I had newly sent out from home. So, I had decided to help him in every way I could. And if moving in with me was the only way I could help, then I had no reason to deny him that grace.I could do with a roommate, and what made it even more appealing was that my roommate would be none other than my best friend.“I hope he’s okay,” I groaned

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   YOU'RE MY FAVORITE

014: You’re My FavouriteDamien VossThe car was beginning to suffocate me. I hated how small it suddenly felt. I couldn’t wait to get to my penthouse and get the fuck out of this damn thing I used to love.I pulled into the parking lot and jumped out like my ass was on fire. I ripped my shirt open as I stormed toward the elevator.“That stupid idiot son of a gun,” I hissed, slamming my fist against the elevator buttons when the damn doors took forever to open. The elevator finally dinged. I stepped into my living room. All I wanted was a bottle of whiskey — maybe two. Shower, sleep, and forget about that stupid boy and his stupid mole.“Look who’s back?” The annoying voice of Nathan, my second brother, yelled from the kitchen. If I didn’t love him so much, I would have put a bullet in his damn skull the second he stepped out.Forget about him. Ignore that bastard and go to bed. Don’t let him ruin your mood more than it already is.“You know I keep telling you to fill up your fridge,

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   BOYFRIEND

Jordan HayesI filled a glass with water and walked out of the kitchen into the living room. Carlos was sitting on the floor, patting the little white cat we’d rescued on our way back. I walked over and handed him the cup."Here," I said.Carlos took the glass, tilted his head, and pressed it to his lips. He took a light sip before setting it down. He kept playing with the cat, not saying a word.I sat beside him on the floor, took his free hand, and asked, "Are you okay, Carl?"Carlos shuddered. He stayed like that for a few seconds before shrugging."I'm fine. Why do you think I'm not?"There we go again. Something told me he wasn’t okay, but I didn’t want to push. He would tell me whatever was going on when he was ready, at his own pace."Nah. You just look…" I waved a hand vaguely toward his face. "You look a little down.""Well, it might be because I feel bad for the poor cat," he mumbled. Within three seconds he looked at my face, my lap, then back at the cat.I nodded. He had a

  • Hi, Boyfriend!   My COCK HAS TYPE

Damien VossAfter waiting another thirty minutes in my car, staring at my phone for a call from Jordan that never came, I decided to go look for him at that lousy bar he worked at."That little fucker!" I cursed angrily, gripping the wheel a little too tight.I had no idea why I was so mad that Jordan hadn’t called like I’d ordered him to. My brows dipped. Was I truly fixated on the fed’s son already? Had he grabbed so much of my attention before I even knew it?"That’s a lame joke," I scoffed, chuckling angrily as I took the route to Queen’s Palace."That little shit is not my type."I kept repeating the words in my head, as if saying them enough would make them real.Honestly, Jordan wasn’t my type. I loved my men rough, tall, and built. Nothing about Jordan fascinated me… Or maybe it did."Fuck!" I groaned, slamming my hands on the steering wheel. I shouldn’t be like this—not after I’d just killed a man who was literally like a father to me for seven fucking years. My eyes landed o
