After that glimpse of Alessio, Serafina could not bring herself to get out of bed, her mind plagued by guilt; her stomach squirmed in fear and the tears kept streaming no matter what she did. Her parents had called a couple of times, checking in on her, and every time they called, she made her voice as even as it could be and told them she was fine.
She did not go to the gallery, nor get any more pictures developed, just day after day, she spent it lying in bed and crying.
"Something urgent came up, dad and I will be back for lunch."Serafina read her mother's message, yawning and rubbing her head.Stretching her arms, she decided to take a shower before going downstairs and grabbing something to eat. Changing into a dark grey sweatshirt and slim fit denim jeans, she combed the tangles out of her hair before making her way downstairs, wondering how obsessive her mother was about cleaning that the entire house was spick-and-span even at 9:30 in the morning.
Her fingers trembled and her leg kept bouncing up and down, Serafina felt utterly out of control as her breathing came in hard pants, her hands smeared in blood with a streak running down her cheek. Letting out a ragged breath, she wiped at the tears that fell, her stomach churning with her throat dry like a desert, worry consuming her mind as to how Alessio was doing. She feared the ambulance was too late because by the time they had arrived, Alessio had passed out and his breathing shallowed to being almost non-existent.
Serafina loved her bedroom in the estate. Her walls were a very subtle grey with a white platform bed against the wall opposite the entrance door, photography hung atop the bed. Two round vanity tables on either side, matching her bed with lamps on them. Her sheets, this time around were a blush pink color - last time they had been navy blue. There were floor cushions in front of the bed, facing the flat screen T.V mounted on the wall and a Persian rug was beneath her bed with a door leading to the walk-in-closet and then the ensuite bath. To the left, there was a cozy window niche with a throw blanket and cushions, the windows loo
The hallways were deserted with just a handful of people lingering around, but none of them paid her any heed as she walked across the ceramic floor. That was exactly what she wanted when she decided to come late at night; no one would bother her with unnecessary questions nor try to stop her either. Inhaling deeply, Serafina halted at the door of the room, gently sliding it open and stepping into the dark interior. The lights had been turned
Serafina paced the length of the hallway outside her brother's bedroom, gnawing at her lips as her legs were beginning to ache with her excessive walk. She had no idea how long she had been pacing the floor, but she knew it had been a good hour, maybe even more.Maybe he's asleep. She thought hopefully, cautiously standing with her eat pressed to the door, straining to hear any movement.Maybe he has a whore inside
Serafina refused to talk to her family. Her parent would come to check in on her and she'd ignore them, she refused to look at Marco, and always walked away when Arsenio tried to approach. Salvatore was on bed rest, and apparently, she had hit his head harder than anticipated because he was often throwing up and looked horrifyingly dazed – granted, she had just heard all that and not actually seen him.It took her a couple of days to come to terms with everything she was told, a part of her didn't want to believe it, but the unbiased part of her knew it was true.
Serafina hadn't been to this estate since her wedding day, and even looking at it now, a wave of nostalgia hit her.It was a beautiful mansion with cream walls and Greek columns, windows on almost every side, and was generally surrounded by well-kept lush green grass and flowers, but given the snowfall, it was surrounded by fields of white. Unlike Salvatore's estate, it was much smaller and had only two floors with a single basement. Being rectangular in shape, it wasn't divided into wings, but there were certain rooms which had been kept closed off to the public when the Costa's resided here.
Serafina's eyes fluttered open not even two hours after she had fallen asleep, the sight of her twin brother eating a bucket of ice cream greeting her as he was watching a movie on low volume. Rubbing her eyes she looked down at her phone screen, blinking away the bleariness before flopping onto the pillow."What are you doing awake at 3 a.m. in the morning?" She sat up and took the spoon from his hands and taking a bite out of the chocolate chip ice cream.
