Chapter 2

작가: Kaka Mountain
Sunny might've been kicked out, but I knew this was far from over.

That night, my emotions spiraled out of control, and I developed a high fever. My brothers stayed by my bedside for the entire night.

When I woke up the next morning, Adam was holding a glass of warm water, carefully checking the temperature. "Nance, it's exactly 98.6 degrees. Just take a sip, okay?"

I looked at him coldly and didn't move. My hypersensitivity was never limited to sensory matters. I had obsessive-compulsive disorder with mental and moral contaminations, too.

Yesterday, all three of them chose to blame me for Sunny, and that moment had already been imprinted on my heart forever.

"I'm not drinking it."

I threw off the blanket and got out of bed, walking straight into my dressing room. The custom-made gown Sunny had worn had already been sent for dry cleaning and returned, hanging neatly in the closet.

I picked up a pair of scissors. Right in front of Adam, I cut the million-dollar gown into pieces. Beau and Claude had just reached the doorway when they saw what I was doing. They immediately held their breaths.

I had been like this since I was young. If someone had touched something of mine, no matter how thoroughly it was cleaned, I would feel so disgusted that I would throw up.

Once, Claude took a single sip of water from my personal cup. I immediately vomited so violently that my stomach cramped, and I had to be rushed to the emergency room.

"Nance, you did the right thing destroying it. If it's tainted, we discard it," Beau said with a forced laugh, trying to appease me.

I dropped the scissors and turned to look at them. "Has that intern been fired?"

The three of them exchanged glances. None of them answered. Their eyes darted away.

Adam sighed. "Nance, Sunny is an orphan. She worked so hard just to get into college and earn this internship."

"What she did yesterday was wrong, but it doesn't mean she deserves to lose everything."

"Yeah. Besides, she came to work this morning with a high fever and even fainted at the front desk."

The nerves in my head throbbed. "So, you guys feel sorry for her?"

"No, that's not it!"

Claude hurried to explain, "We just think she's had a difficult life. And she really is capable. We just assigned her an important project…"

I had no words. I changed my clothes, went downstairs, and told the driver to get the car ready. "Take me to the office."

Half an hour later, I pushed open the door to the CEO's office on the top floor of Chapman Group.

The first thing I saw was Sunny. She was sitting inside my private lounge, wearing an oversized hospital gown.

In her hands was my custom-made fine bone china cup from Monteluce. The moment she saw me walk in, her hand trembled. Water spilled onto the carpet. "Ms. Chapman…"

Sunny stood up with tear-filled eyes, looking terrified. "I didn't know this was your cup. I just thought it was a waste for it to sit there unused, and I got a little thirsty, so I used it…

"Your brothers said you have too many things anyway and that you wouldn't mind if I used them once."

Listening to her sweet, manipulative act, I was so furious that I actually laughed. I walked over and snatched the cup from her hands. "You thought that it being unused was a waste?"

I slammed the cup onto the floor. The body shattered instantly, and the flying shards cut into Sunny's calf. She screamed, clutching her leg as she crouched down.

"Where exactly did you get the idea that I wouldn't mind?"

I followed her logic and completely lost control. "Who do you think you are to use my cup? Do you understand what this is? This is called stealing!"

By then, Adam, Beau, and Claude had finished their meeting and returned. The moment they walked in, they saw Sunny's bleeding calf.

"Nance, what are you doing?"

Beau rushed over and instinctively shielded Sunny behind him. She was crying so hard she could barely breathe. "Beau, it's not her fault. I, being the poor bumpkin I am, got curious because I'd never seen such a beautiful cup before.

"I can barely afford to eat, unlike Ms. Chapman, who was born with a silver spoon and has everything. I just wanted to know what it felt like to be chosen for once…"

Those few simple words hit exactly where the brothers were the weakest—their instinct to protect the vulnerable.

Adam frowned. "Nancy, are you done? It was just a cup. Was it really necessary to hurt her this badly?"

Watching them protect Sunny, I felt the familiar wave of overwhelming emotions crash over me again. The sounds around me grew unbearably loud. My heartbeat pounded violently in my ears.

I couldn't stop myself. I grabbed the golf club beside me and started smashing everything in the lounge—the computers, the coffee table… Not even the floor-to-ceiling windows could escape.

"Am I done, you ask? I'm not going to just stop at a cup. I'm going to destroy everything here!" I screamed. "Aren't you so worried and sad about her? Well, have fun staying in this pile of garbage with her!"

  • High-Maintenance Heiress Has a Deadly Meltdown   Chapter 10

Six months later, I stood on the award stage at Clairmont Fashion Week, dressed in haute couture.Under the flashing lights, I smiled with radiating confidence. There was no trace of the once fragile and highly sensitive heiress who needed her brothers to protect her, no more of that woman who would break down whenever her emotions overwhelmed her. After the ceremony ended, Elliot handed me a glass of warm water backstage. The temperature was still precisely 98.6 degrees."Congratulations, Chief Designer," he said with a smile.I accepted the glass and took a sip. "Thank you for everything you've graciously done for me this past year."He raised an eyebrow. "Graciously?"He stepped closer, backing me against the edge of the vanity. "Nancy Chapman, after everything I've done for you, don't you think it's time to repay me a little?"I looked at his face so close to mine, a smile creeping onto my lips. "What do you want, Mr. Henderson?"Elliot lowered his head, just enough for hi

After that night, the Chapman family became the city's laughingstock.Sunny, whose real name was Mary, was officially arrested on charges of commercial fraud, document forgery, and attempted murder.Inside Chapman Group, Elliot took the shares I had authorized him to utilize and intervened with ruthless efficiency. The veteran shareholders behind Mary's scheme, who manipulated everything from the shadows, were uprooted. He sent them all to prison.Chapman Group's stock price plummeted. Adam, overwhelmed by guilt and anger, spent two weeks hospitalized. On the day he was discharged, he, Beau, and Claude blocked the entrance to Elliot's estate. Rain poured from the sky. The three once-untouchable heirs of the Chapman family stood outside like stray dogs. For an entire night, they stayed there in the rain. The next morning, I walked outside holding an umbrella. The moment Beau saw me, he stumbled forward. "Nance, you finally agreed to see us!"His body was soaked through. His lips

Adam gritted his teeth and stepped forward as well. "Nancy, I'm begging you…"He lowered his head, his voice hoarse as he spoke to me. "For Billy's sake, for the man who sacrificed his life for us back then, withdraw the charges. Whatever compensation you want, I'll give it to you."I looked at them, so stubbornly refusing to see the truth. Suddenly, I felt nothing but pity. They were my brothers, yet for a debt of gratitude that didn't even exist, they were willing to abandon every boundary they once had."Adam, was your brain eaten by maggots?" I pulled a thick stack of documents from my bag and threw them in his face. "Open your eyes and see for yourselves. You'll find out if she's actually Billy's daughter."The documents were scattered across the floor. The one on top was a DNA test report. Claude picked it up with trembling hands. His eyes fell on the final line that read, "No biological relationship confirmed.""No way…" he mumbled.Elliot laughed coldly. "Billy's dau

When Adam, Beau, and Claude saw the document, their expressions shifted. Beau stepped in front of Sunny, shielding her behind him as he glared at me."Nancy, haven't you caused enough trouble? You were the one who said those sketches were waste paper. She was only trying to help you clean up."You even signed the designs away and gave them to her. Now that she's turned them into a finished collection, you've seriously come to steal her spotlight?"I looked at his self-righteous expression, finding it almost comical. "I signed them away?"I sneered, my eyes landing on the document in Sunny's hands. "Signature forgery is a criminal offense, Sunny."She shrank back in fear, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I didn't! That day, after you poured paint over my head, I was cleaning the floor when you threw the agreement at me. You said that as long as I signed it, those waste papers would belong to me."Claude wrapped an arm around her protectively, his face full of pity. He then turned

When I opened my eyes again, I wasn't on a flight to Silvania. Instead, I was lying in a lavish, elegantly furnished bedroom.A faint scent of agarwood lingered in the air, and the room was kept at a precise 76.1 degrees, the temperature I found most comfortable.A deep, commanding voice came from somewhere nearby. "You're up."I turned my head. Seated in the shadows was a man I recognized immediately. It was Elliot Henderson, the most respected man in the city and also the business rival my brothers feared more than anyone.I pushed myself upright, my throat still dry. "What brings you to the business of kidnapping people halfway through their journey, huh, Mr. Henderson?"Elliot walked over and handed me a glass of water. It was exactly 98.6 degrees."The Chapman brothers have lost their minds. They were actually going to send their sister to a psychiatric hospital. I happened to pass by, so I decided to pick up a bargain."He looked at me, amusement flickering in his deep e

My smile made the smug expression on Sunny's face freeze in place. She probably thought I would react like I always did, that my overwhelming episodes would cause me to break down or scream in panic. But I didn't.I simply got out of bed, reached for the fruit knife Sunny had left on the bedside table, and picked it up.Sunny yelped, and the apple slipped from her hand and rolled across the floor. I cornered her against the wall. "You enjoyed adding peanut butter to my oats, huh?"She trembled uncontrollably. Lost was the vicious and confident expression she had worn moments ago. "Ms. Chapman, please spare me… I was wrong. I'll never do it again!"I leaned close to her ear, but my voice was strangely polite. "Weren't you just so cocky? Come on. Keep taunting me."Just then, the hospital door was kicked open. Adam rushed in and roared, "Nancy, what on earth are you doing?"Beau and Claude followed right behind him. When they saw the scene, their faces dropped. Claude reacted th
