Chapter 15

Arthur and I woke up early the next morning to pack our things. We skipped any playful moments since we would rather not tire ourselves out, and we might have been tempted to stay another day. It would’ve been wonderful, but we only brought just enough supplies so we wouldn’t be weighed down on the hike. Once everything was ready, we walked back to the trail hand in hand, making our way toward his town.

Of course, we took a few breaks along the way, which I enjoyed. His car was still parked where he had left it. We loaded our things in the back and drove to his house. But when we arrived, I noticed another car parked in front. A woman, about Arthur’s age, stepped out. Arthur stopped the car and told me not to get out. I obeyed and stayed inside.

I couldn’t help but wonder… Was she a relative, or maybe an ex? The woman smiled warmly when she saw Arthur, but my eyebrow arched when she kissed his cheek and hugged him. I felt a twinge of jealousy, but I remained silent. Arthur didn’t matc
