Rowan's POV

The past week had been… uneventful, if I had to put it mildly. No explosions. No missed deadlines. No dramatic meltdowns from my assistant. Honestly, I didn’t know whether to be impressed or suspicious.

Elena had been surprisingly punctual. Not once had I walked into the building and caught her running in, breathless, five minutes late with coffee stains on her notes. She was even ahead of schedule some days—an achievement that probably deserved a damn medal, considering the chaotic disaster she was when she first walked through my office door.

I hadn’t had much time to poke and prod at her, not because I didn’t want to, but because I was neck-deep in upcoming project details. The Italy deal had gone through smoothly. The presentation she made last week for the board meeting actually turned out to be usable.

Better than usable, if I was being honest—which I rarely am, especially to myself. Strategy meetings, financial planning, and correspondence consumed my schedule with

Elena's POVI never expected him to say that. Not like that. Not with those eyes that once held something unreadable but warm. Not with a voice that had once teased and challenged but never tried to break me.But you never know people, do you?One minute they’re the only anchor keeping you from falling—and the next, they’re the one who pushed you over the edge.I didn’t argue. I didn’t plead. I didn’t defend myself.I just... left.I grabbed my bag with trembling hands and walked out of his office without a word, feeling like something inside me had been ripped clean apart.I didn’t even realise I was crying until the air hit my cheeks. The tears were already sliding down, hot and relentless, as if they’d been waiting for this moment all along. The elevator ride down felt like a slow descent into some kind of emotional abyss. The building emptied behind me as I stepped outside. The streets were quiet. Almost too quiet. The city that never stops suddenly felt like it was holding its br

Rowan's POVEverything felt off today. From the moment I got up, I knew I wasn’t in my usual frame of mind.My suit felt tighter. My shoes are too stiff. Even the damn tie was irritating my neck. And for once, I didn’t give a shit.I checked my phone in the car, hoping for a message—maybe a follow-up from Elena—but saw nothing. She hadn’t replied to my text about the Volkov meeting.I didn’t hold it against her. At least, not this time. I knew my mind was too full to even start arguments. I had more pressing concerns.Dad. The thought hit like a brick to the chest.By the time I entered the office, the place had the usual buzz, but my focus was nonexistent. I barely registered the greetings from employees or the way the elevator chimed softly with each floor. My eyes had shadows under them, and I didn’t need a mirror to know how dead I looked.I walked straight into my office and collapsed onto the chair. Elena called a few minutes later—soft, professional tone—and informed me that th

Elena's POVMy heels clicked against the pavement outside as I reached my house, but the thunderous rhythm of my heartbeat drowned the noise out.Calm down. It’s nothing. It’s probably just… nothing.I kept repeating that in my head like a desperate mantra as I slipped my keys into the door and turned the lock. The house was unusually quiet. Caroline’s usual sitcom reruns weren’t echoing through the walls, and Nate wasn’t strumming that stupid guitar he never played correctly. Still, everything looked fine. Ordinary. As if my father hadn’t sent a text earlier that had successfully unclipped the safety pin on my anxiety.I closed the door behind me and headed straight for my room, ignoring the hollow pit in my stomach. I didn’t need to invent drama when there wasn’t any. Right?I peeled off my work clothes and slid into my favourite oversized hoodie and some worn-out leggings. Comfort clothes. If anything bad was about to happen, I at least wanted to be comfortable for it.Once I flopp

  • His Beauty Her Beast   15. Just A Day

Elena's POVI was dancing with the man—Julian, I think that’s what he said his name was—but my mind wasn’t really here. Not with him.My eyes kept drifting back to the corner of the room, where Rowan stood with a glass of scotch in his hand, looking like he could kill someone with a stare. He clenched his jaw, pressed his lips into a hard line, and fixed his piercing, glacial eyes straight on me. No blinking. No smiling. Just watching.Like he was seconds away from marching across the floor and ripping me out of this guy’s arms.God, why does he always do that? The way he looked at me like I belonged to him… when he made sure I knew that I didn’t.I tried to shake it off and focus on the present. The man holding me pulled me just a little closer. His hand pressed against my waist, firm—too firm. I stiffened but smiled out of politeness.“So you’re new at Blackwood Corp?” he asked, his voice slick and amused.I nodded once. “Yes.”He smirked. “Assistant to the devil himself?”I gave a

  • His Beauty Her Beast   14. Gala

Rowan's POVWell, I think the exact moment I hired Elena Hart as my assistant might’ve been the moment my brain completely left my body.Because somehow, I—the CEO of Blackwood Corporation—found out about a high-profile industry gala four goddamn hours before it starts.Nice.Very professional.Greta had just muttered something about invitations and event reminders, but I wasn’t even listening. My eyes had already landed on Elena, who stood there blinking like a deer caught under stadium lights, clearly forgetting that half her job description included reminding me about things like this."Give her something from our collection," I said to Greta, my tone clipped.I didn’t even bother to look at Elena. I could feel her panic from across the room. Served her right.Greta nodded and left, tugging Elena along like a guilty schoolchild. The moment the door shut, I pulled my phone out and messaged her.Me: Send me pictures of the dresses. I’ll choose. Don’t tell her.Because, obviously, I c
