My mind went blank. I stared into his eyes. They were different—not the usual eyes that portrayed the bitterness and inexplicable hatred engraved in his heart for me. The glint was something different. Hunger? Lust? Love? Nah! There was no way that could be love. Even if he wasn’t in control of his mind because of the situation, there was no way the emotion in his eyes was affection. He hated me to the core, and I honestly detested him just as much. “Mate!” He repeated the word, and Lyra growled at it. Goosebumps shrouded my skin, and an enjoyable cold gripped me. I didn’t know how to react. What a twist! Of all the men who were in the pack hall tonight, how could it be Cassius Slade? Could the moon goddess be any crueler? First, I was given a difficult life, and now I would be a rejected mate, because there was no way on earth Cassius would acknowledge me as his mate and future Luna. I wasn’t anticipating that either. There was no way I would strive to be the Luna of a man who gave me a scar—a scar that would never fade. Seconds passed, then minutes, until it turned into an hour. We stood there, glancing into each other’s eyes unblinkingly as though we were both rummaging for something in them. My body was getting hotter, and Lyra was becoming fiercer. She wanted to hear the acceptance words from her mate. She couldn’t wait to be bound to him—his wolf. As for me, I was patiently waiting for those rejection words. I had seen Cinderella once, but I had never visualized that it was real. There was no way Cassius would accept me as his mate. So, it was better that I didn’t get my hopes high—not for a second. At this point, everyone in the hall had either been accepted or rejected. The sound of sobs mixed with excited squeals glided into my ears. That was the way it had always been. Tonight, some would cry themselves to sleep, while some wouldn’t be able to sleep because of overblown joy. Unfortunately, I would be doing the first—crying myself to bed—but I doubted I would be able to feel a thing because of his declaration. Cassius had done worse to me. Having him reject me would be the least, and I doubted it would hurt. “What a twist! She’s getting a slap in the face tonight,” I heard a voice rip through the air from the right side. I didn’t bother to look at who it was. That was predictable. The only son of the Alpha was in front of me. Anyone would be angry. A common Omega and a lowly maid got mated to the future Alpha? No way those girls with perfect families and rich backgrounds would accept that. “The moon goddess can be funny sometimes. How can a pig be mated to a prince?” another said, and a few of them laughed. Strangely, I wasn’t offended. Their outrage was justified. There was no way I deserved anything good. I had no identity until I got to the Silverfang Pack, where I was sold as a maid. My mistress gave me the name “Camille,” and I could say that was the only good thing the witch had done—giving me an identity. The moon goddess didn’t halt her savagery there. She went further by not bestowing on me the standard looks and stature of the pack. I was different from other girls—chubby, with a fatty face, short hair, and maybe unappealing. “Cassius loathes her guts to the core. I guess we are about to witness the biggest rejection in history,” Kendra’s voice echoed, menacing and cold. I could feel her eyes on my skin, prodding me like a needle. Everyone burst into laughter. Lyra grunted inwardly and tried to dominate my human form, but I held her back. I couldn’t allow my unreasonable wolf to humiliate me in front of everyone. It would be disastrous if Lyra forced me to plead with Cassius to accept me and not reject me. She pulled at my stomach and shook my body aggressively, trying to take charge, but I dug my nails into my skin, suppressing the urge to grant her access. “I… Reject me already, Master Cassius,” I mumbled, my voice croaky and low due to the wave swirling within me. “I understand that you hate me and wouldn’t want a woman like me by mistake. You don’t need to hesitate. I’m certain the moon goddess made a grave mistake this time.” “Thank goddess she knows her place already. She knows that she is beneath and should remain there forever. A lowly Omega like her shouldn’t covet our Cassius,” a voice shouted from the crowd. If it were the previous day, I would have allowed the tears dancing in my eyelids to stream out, but it was different this time. Something was holding them back, and I didn’t think they would fall even if I pushed them. Maybe because I had accepted the impossibility before it even happened. My mind was clear. I just wanted to get the rejection from him and leave this gathering. I knew I didn’t belong here, but protocols needed to be observed. After an eternity of silence, he blinked and flashed a radiant smile at me. Trust me, that was definitely a dream. No—it was real. He probably just smiled at my misfortune and the twist of events. He definitely was as shocked as I was, which was the reason for his smile. “Why should I do that, Camille?” he asked. This would be the first time I had heard Cassius speak softly. He took my hands and stared into my eyes. My body froze when his hands touched mine. Different things were happening at the same time, and it was difficult to assimilate or comprehend anything. Did Cassius hit his head on a rod before coming here, and was it just starting to have a bad effect on him? Gasps spread among everyone when he held me. They were just as dumbfounded as I was. “Why should I ruin the moon goddess’s plan, Camille? She made you mine for a reason,” he uttered. Another round of gasps emanated from everybody; some shielded their mouths with their hands to stop the screams. To crown it all, he made the most appalling statement: “I, Cassius Slade, accept you, Camille Mullen, as my mate and future Luna.”GENERALNINE MONTHS LATER… Nine months had changed nothing about the way Camille carried herself, except now she moved a little slower, a little more carefully. The Pack house had grown used to the quiet anticipation that followed her everywhere. Guards doubled in corridors she passed, maids hovered just a little closer, and even the air seemed to hold its breath around her. That morning, she was alone in her bedroom, sleeping. Then she felt a slight discomfort that caused her to pry her eyes open. A sharp pull followed, harsher. Before she could comprehend what it was, she felt a warmth spreading between her legs. With a contorted expression, she sat up, and she froze when she realized what the warmth was.She gasped. “…No.”She tried to steady herself on the edge of the bed, inhaling sharply. “Why today…” she muttered under her breath, her voice already tightening. “Of all days?”Another contraction hit, stronger this time. Her grip tightened on the bedpost as she pursed her lips t
GENERALCamille bit her tongue to suppress the pang of pain traveling through her body like fluid. Her limbs were heavy—wrong. Not numb like sleep, but sealed, as if something inside her had been locked away and forced into silence. She tried to reach for her wolf instinctively, but nothing answered. She didn’t know what exactly it was, but she could tell that something was wrong with her wolf. She tried reaching out to Lyra many times, but she was still and silent.Cassius watched her reaction with quiet satisfaction from across the room, leaning casually against the stone wall as though they were sharing a private conversation instead of something far more sinister.“Don’t push it,” he said mildly. “She won’t answer you.”Camille glared at him, breathing uneven but controlled. “What did you do to me?”Cassius tilted his head, studying her like a puzzle he already knew the solution to. “I gave you a suppressant. A very active one.” His lips curved faintly. “It won’t hurt you. It will
GENERALCamille opened her eyes slowly. At first, there was only darkness behind her eyelids and a dull ache spreading through her body like fog. Her head throbbed as she tried to move, but something cold and binding held her wrists in place. Stone pressed against her back. She blinked once. And then twice. And her vision became clear.A dim room came into focus—old, unfamiliar, lit only by a single torch that flickered against rough walls. The air smelled wrong, but familiar. She knew that scent, and it belonged to…Her thought cut off when she saw him. For a second, her mind refused to accept it, so she shut her eyes and opened them again twice, yet she was seeing the same thing. No. She shook her head. This couldn’t be.But then he stepped forward, and the illusion shattered completely.Alpha Cassius. The Alpha of Silverfang. Her ex-mate, and the same man who wanted her dead.Camille’s body went rigid instantly, pain and shock snapping her fully awake. “No…” Her voice came out hoar
GENERALCamille and Lena walked side by side through the wide stone corridor that led toward the Pack’s kitchen. The air was warm here, carrying the comforting scent of fresh bread, simmering herbs, and roasted meat. Unlike the colder halls of the manor, this part of the Pack Estate always felt alive and filled with movement, laughter, and the constant clatter of pots and plates. That was the part Camille loved more.Lena nudged Camille lightly with her shoulder. “If I see another trainee trying to sneak extra stew before dinner, I’m reporting them personally,” she mumbled.Camille let out a soft laugh. “You say that every week, and yet somehow, you always end up giving them a second serving,” she said. “Don’t you think you’re too soft for such a threat?”“I am not soft,” Lena replied immediately, though her lips betrayed her with a small smile.“You’re the softest woman I know,” Camille teased.Lena gasped in mock offense. “Careful. I might start charging you for disrespect,” she jok
DANTELena has always been a pain in the ass. Don’t get me wrong—I don’t hate Lena. Our problem started that night when she refused to hand Camille over to me. She treated me like I was some sort of danger to my own woman. Of course, I felt disrespected. And she wasn’t even scared or sorry about it.I used to admire her courage and outspokenness, but that day, I realized she bit me with the same teeth I sharpened. Call me petty, but I wouldn’t rest until I had gotten my revenge on her. When we got into the study, I settled into the chair and leaned against the table. “If I find out you brought me out to save your wife, you will be in trouble,” I grunted, darting a displeased gaze at him. If I could, I would make him suffer for what his wife did. Lena is so sharp-tongued, and I could tell that she was already influencing Camille. Strangely, I loved their friendship. It made me happy to know that there was somebody else who valued her and could protect her even if I wasn’t available.Sh
CAMILLEA knock came on the door as soon as we finished dressing up.“Come in,” Dante’s voice echoed, and the door opened, revealing Asher and Lena.Lena’s eyes moved to the bed. I saw fear in them when she couldn’t see me. When her gaze shifted to Dante and then found me beside him, her lips widened.“Camille!!!” she shouted, rushed over, and pulled me into a hug. Her arms subconsciously pushed Dante away from me, but she didn’t notice. I did, and I saw a glint of jealousy flash across his eyes. He sent a deadly glare at Asher. I couldn’t help but chuckle. The rivalry between Lena and Dante didn’t seem like it would end any time soon.I couldn’t help but smirk. Why did these two always have to fight like this? All I wanted was a quiet moment, yet somehow I ended up at the center of their chaos. She broke the hug and held my hands. “I was so scared. I’ve been frequenting the manor since that night, but someone is taking revenge for what I did to him some time ago.” She darted a disgus

THELMAFrom the intensity of the elders’ glares, I could tell the meeting didn’t go well. Camille had done it again. She escaped from me again.Hiding the pain in my eyes, I flashed a smile. “You all seem angry, elders. How was the meeting? Did it go as planned?”Jaron scoffed. “As planned? What fu
