Chapter 4 He's a Criminal

Author: Perfect Timing
Cynthia chewed her lip and corrected us shyly. "I wasn't talking about Dylan. It's about Ivan.

Then, she stood and announced it with the confidence of a legal wife who had been hidden from the public. "You guessed right. I'm Ivan's ex-wife. We were happy together before Reese showed up and ruined everything!"

Dylan was bewildered. "What are you talking about, Cynthia? Aren't we dating?"

She only shook her head firmly. "You were just my last resort. I only used you so I could get close to Ivan again. He's the only man I've ever loved."

Dylan almost choked when she admitted that he used him.

Still, she ignored him.

She grabbed my forearm with unwavering determination and begged, "Reese, please give him back. He and I are soulmates. I'm the woman who truly understands him and knows his secrets. He needs me to pull him out of the abyss. Only I can give him what he truly wants!"

"Cynthia is right! After all, Ivan spared her. It shows how important she is to him! Can Reese get out of their way already?"

"Homewreckers are disgusting, and Reese is no different. So what if Ivan and Cynthia weren't officially married? They made a verbal promise. Doesn't that prove Cynthia holds a special place in his heart? After all, anyone who actually marries him ends up dead."

"Be careful, Reese. If you cherish your life, you better scram. Don't get in the way of Cynthia saving Ivan. If Ivan is upset, he'll definitely kill the eyesore first. Only Cynthia had a kind heart and tolerance for him."

My heartbeat quickened.

No way.

Ivan was a serial killer.

He was not some misunderstood villain. He was a criminal.

And something had to be seriously wrong with Cynthia's head.

If she knew his secret, shouldn't she have called the police? What was this nonsense about "saving" him? Had a high fever fried her brain when she was young?

Besides, the comments had already revealed that they were never married. Yet she still accused me of stealing her husband while deliberately leaving out the most important details.

She was not kind. She was manipulative.

The crowd ganged up on me.

"Can you believe it? Reese stole her subordinate's husband! What a shameless woman!"

"I know she's been a vicious woman all along! She probably sells her body to get what she wants. Ivan's face and wealth must have attracted her, and she decided to steal him. Poor Cynthia."

"Come on, Ivan is the real victim here. Not only did he fall for that bitch's lies, but he also proposed to her. He needs to wake up and be with the woman who loves him for his personality.

The ridiculousness of the situation shoved the fury to the back of my mind, and I started to see the real problem here.

Dylan and I were the real victims, but nobody supported us. Instead, everyone rooted for the scumbags.

As unbelievable as those comments were, at least they warned me what to avoid.

The lunatics needed to stay far away from me. All I wanted was a peaceful, non-toxic life.

I yanked my arm out of Cynthia's grasp and wiped the spot she had touched against my clothes. Finally, I nodded. "Fine. I'll give you what you want."

I took the wedding invitation out of my pocket and tore it into pieces before the crowd. Then, I tossed the shredded card into the trash and sneered. "Go ahead. He's all yours now."

A sudden voice rang out among the gasps. "There he is! Ivan is back!"

The car continued to speed down the highway.Unfortunately, our so-called elopement ended in a village, where the police had already received the tip-off and set up a dragnet. We abandoned the car and traveled on foot. I fell behind and was targeted by the police.Perhaps Cynthia's testimony had proven Ivan as the main suspect; I was now treated as his accomplice. The police chose to open fire.He took a bullet for me when the police shot at us.We fled to a villager's house. He threatened the family to surrender with a knife. Then, he tied them up and locked them in the bedroom.I found the first-aid kit and bandaged him with tears streaming down my face. It had to hurt, but he refused to make a sound. Instead, he stroked my hair and face, comforting me in a low voice. "Don't worry. I don't die that easily."However, we had run out of luck.Although plenty of houses were scattered throughout the area, the police tracked us down.Ivan decided on an escape route within a few

After hanging up, I asked the cab driver to turn around. Before long, I arrived at the familiar neighborhood.I realized it had become a serious issue when Ivan didn't go to see Sophia. What happened in the study had only been the appetizer. Now, I was finally facing the main course.Ivan had never left. From the very beginning, he had been hiding in the dark, watching me save Cynthia and get into a car to run away.Perhaps he had been tailing me on my way to the airport. Perhaps he had readied his weapon and was waiting for the opportunity to stab me.Even if I found shelter at the police station, he would take it out on my family and friends. Therefore, I had no other choice.…When I returned home, I found Ivan standing in the living room.I lifted the instant noodles in my hand and smiled at him. "You're back already? Let's go. We can eat on the road."He stared at me in silence before approaching me, towering over me.I could feel tension in the air.Just when I tho

Ivan stiffened. He probably had not expected that. The distinctive smell of blood hit my nostrils. I could even hear the sound of liquid dripping on the floor.Judging from the noise it made, it definitely was not water."Really?" His voice was cold. It was obvious that if he sensed even the slightest lie, he would kill me without hesitation.I hugged him tighter and protested as though I was jealous. "I hate the thought of another woman being close to you. You belong to me alone."He chuckled at my possessiveness.Mentioning another woman proved that I knew what he was doing inside the room. However, instead of running away from him, I focused on the fact that another woman had stolen his attention. It proved that we were on the same wavelength. It excited him. He hugged me tightly and murmured under his breath, "I knew it. I was right. Reese, you're the one for me… My most precious…"We shifted positions, and he turned on the light. When my eyes finally adjusted to the lig

  • His Brides Never Survive   Chapter 7 Improvised Plan

I had no idea what Ivan was doing inside the study. All I heard was the noise of the chair being dragged across the floor.Meanwhile, the comments were heated."Wait. I don't get it. Why did Ivan knock Cynthia out and put her in the suitcase? Should he be doing that?""Maybe he feels bad that the outsiders wronged her? Maybe it's his special way of displaying affection? After all, he had an unfortunate childhood. Put yourself in his shoes and stop criticizing him!""And you stop lying to yourself! Care to explain why he's in the study, pouring water on her face, and pulling her hair? Wait a minute! Is it a knife I saw on the table? What does he plan to do?""Are you idiots? If you can't tolerate this, you can leave now. I really feel sorry for Ivan. He probably doesn't mean to use violence on her or kill his wives. It's all because the rotten world broke him! Just you wait. "He'll imprison her and hurt her now, but later, he'll regret it and do everything to win her back. That's

The man's question echoed off the walls, making my ears ring. The fear strangled me like a pair of hands. I could not speak, let alone make an excuse.Ivan was home.He acted faster than I anticipated. It seemed that the ruckus at the office failed to hold him back. Now, he had returned home before I could flee.He took a step forward. Then another.I involuntarily scrambled backward. The difference in our height had always made him seem imposing. Now that I knew he was a criminal, it only made him more terrifying. He slammed the door shut.I froze where I stood and met his eyes.Only half a day had passed, yet the man I once loved had become completely unrecognizable to me.On the outside, he was still a good-looking man. But now, all I saw was a man with a murderous gleam in his eyes. After some time, he chuckled at the sight of my luggage and continued in an affectionate tone. "Darling, you should've told me if you're heading out. But I need to talk to you about something

  • His Brides Never Survive   Chapter 5 Caught Red-Handed

My unexpected answer stunned the crowd. They didn't side with Cynthia for justice or out of kindness. They simply wanted a show. They wanted to provoke me, so I would lunge at Cynthia to fight her for Ivan. And I had no intention of giving them what they wanted. When they realized I was not getting angry the way they expected—and that the useless Cynthia had actually taken the so-called perfect Ivan from me—their attitudes changed instantly."Come to think of it, she can't just claim that Ivan belongs with her randomly. If I remember correctly, Reese and Ivan were single when they met each other.""Exactly. Cynthia is his ex for a reason, yet she's still harassing him. Doing this the day before someone's wedding? She's obviously just looking for attention.""Poor Dylan. She used him to get closer to Ivan. It's no different from cheating on him. He wasted his time on a bitch!"Cynthia paled at their words. However, she ignored Dylan's questions and stared at me, unwavering. S
