(Selena's POV)

He stood close to the wall of the elevator, scrolling through his phone. He didn't notice me immediately, and for a second, I considered turning back, pretending I’d forgotten something.

But I didn’t.

I have to face him. I walked in, keeping to my side of the elevator. The doors closed with a soft thud, and suddenly the world shrank into this tight little metal box. My breathing slowed, then quickened—shallow and uneven—as I stared straight ahead, trying to hold it together.

The silence was unbearable. I could feel every breath he took.

He finally glanced up from his phone.

“Selena,” he said softly.

I didn’t respond.

“How… how are you doing?”

That was it.

That simple, bland question lit the match I had been holding at arm’s length.

I turned my head slowly to face him with narrowed eyes, my insides were burning.

“How am I doing?” I repeated with a quiet intensity. “You really want to know?”

He looked like a deer caught in headlights.

“I’m furious,” I said. My voice didn’

(Luca's POV)The silence in my apartment was maddening. I muted the TV ten minutes ago, hoping to clear my thoughts but even the white noise had been better than the sound of my own heart pounding relentlessly in my chest. It's been two days since that elevator ride with Selena, and the echo of her voice—wounded and full of betrayal—still haunted me like a ghost refusing to be laid to rest.I haven’t been able to focus on anything since. My mind was stuck on her.She had looked at me with so much pain and loathing and I knew I deserved it. Still, I want her to just hear me out, give me a chance to explain. I got her phone number from a reliable source yesterday and right now, my fingers hovered above my phone screen, my thumb aching from holding it in place for too long. The message I typed stared back at me like a prayer I wasn’t sure I deserved to send.Selena, I know I hurt you. I don’t expect forgiveness, but I do want a chance to explain. You deserve the truth. If you’re willing,

(Selena's POV)When Damien came home last night, I knew there was going to be a storm. He didn’t even sit down. He just tossed his keys on the marble console and marched into the living room where I sat curled up on the couch, pretending to read a book I hadn’t flipped in over ten minutes. I looked up the moment I heard the edge in his voice.“You walked out of the boardroom like you were a disgruntled intern,” he said, his tone flat but sharp, like the cold edge of a knife grazing skin before the real cut. “Do you know how unprofessional that looked? How insulting it was to me, and this company?”I swallowed hard. My mouth was dry, but I forced myself to respond without trembling.“I wasn’t feeling well,” I said softly. “I didn’t mean to offend anyone.”His eyes narrowed, not in concern but in calculation. “You’ve been acting strange recently, Selena. You’re the Managing Director of a billion-dollar enterprise. You don’t get to check out when you feel like it.”I lowered my gaze.“I’

(Damien's POV)The AI deal has been signed. Novatek is officially integrated into Delacroix-Valenci. My empire's name and vision would now be attached to the next frontier of technological evolution.I saw Selena leave right after the signing. She didn't offer a handshake or even a customary nod of approval to Luca. It didn’t go unnoticed by the board either—I watched as some of them exchanged curious glances, but nobody dared speak. After the meeting, everyone left the boardroom. I tapped my pen against my palm as I walked to my office. I stopped by Selena's office to confront her for leaving the boardroom like that. Her office was locked so I knocked on the door beside hers.“Come in.” The voice inside echoed.I opened the door to find Selena's assistant–I think her name is Claire–typing on her computer. She stood up the moment she saw me.“Where's my wife?” I asked, trying to sound neutral.“Mrs. Delacroix asked me to clear her schedule and said she was taking the rest of the day o

(Selena's POV)I barely made it to my office without collapsing. My heels clicked too loudly on the marble floors, echoing every tremor in my chest. The moment I shut the door behind me, I leaned against it and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. My legs felt like glass.I stared at my reflection in the glass cabinet across the room—my face looked pale beneath my makeup, my eyes were wild. I look like someone who has just seen a ghost.I blinked, trying to steady myself, and walked slowly to my desk. Claire popped her head in a second later, tablet in hand, chirpy as always.“You have a strategy call with Legal at one, then—”“Cancel everything,” I said, cutting her off. My voice was sharper than I intended, but I didn’t care.Claire blinked. “All of it?”“Yes,” I snapped. “Everything. I need the rest of the day off.”She hesitated only a second before nodding. “Of course. I’ll handle it.”Once she left, I sat behind my desk, my hands trembling as I opened my drawer and pull

  • His Brother's Bride    Chapter Twenty-two

(Luca's POV)The boardroom had quieted to a hum of satisfaction, the kind that follows a successful deal. The AI proposal was met with enthusiasm, detailed questions, and swift formality. I finally heard the words I’ve been preparing to hear:“Approved.”Papers were slid across the glass table toward me. My pen hovered briefly because the reason I was truly here—the reason I had pushed so hard for this—was now sitting at the far end of the table, avoiding my gaze like I was a ghost from a life she wanted to forget.Selena.She has not made a move since Damien introduced me as his younger brother. Her reaction made me feel even more guilty.I saw the panic and hurt in her eyes. She looked at me like everything we had shared that night in the cabin was now poisoned.I lied to her that night. I never told her my last name or mentioned that I had a brother, let alone who he was. I knew exactly who she was and wanted to use her as revenge. But I fell in love with her.I looked at her again
