~ Julian ~

I couldn’t stop staring at the photographs.

For the third time that day, Marcus’s file lay open on my desk. Birth certificates without a father’s name. Medical records of twins born exactly nine months after that night making it six years now. School forms signed only by Lily Harper.

But it was the photos that left me shaken.

Eva and Ethan. My children.

Eva’s bright smile carried my eyes—dark brown with gold flecks. Ethan’s serious face mirrored my own childhood pictures, down to the stubborn set of his jaw. I compared his school photo to one of mine that my mother had kept for years. The resemblance was undeniable.

“Six years, Lily,” I muttered to the empty room. “Six years you thought you could keep them hidden.”

If I hadn’t seen them at the mall, would I ever have known I have children? Would it have been a lifetime secret?

The thought of all these made my grip tighten on the edge of the desk.

They kids have had their six birthdays, six Christmas celebrations. Six years of scraped knees, bedtime stories, and first days of school—stolen from me.

My phone buzzed. Raymond.

“Sir, your three o’clock with the Yamamoto Group—”

“Reschedule,” I snapped.

“But sir, Tokyo expansion—”

“I said cancel. Reschedule.”

A pause. “Shall I say you’re unwell?”

That word fits. “Tell them whatever you want. Just handle it.”

I ended the call and looked again at the photos. Eva, wearing a plastic tiara like the one I saw at the mall, looked like Lily. But her eyes were mine. Ethan’s frown was exactly like mine as a boy.

My mother would be furious when she found out. Margaret Stone, who spent years shaping Adrian and me into perfect heirs, now had grandchildren she’d never met.

But first, Lily.

I leaned back, thinking. The legal route—custody papers, paternity tests—would scare her off. She’d disappear again, and this time I might never find her.

No. I had to be careful.

I called Marcus.

“Chen,” he answered.

“I need Lily’s full routine. Where she goes, who she meets. I want a schedule.”

“That’ll cost extra. Surveillance takes time.”

“Money isn’t the issue. I need it tomorrow.”

“Got it. Anything else?”

“I need to know the safest place to approach her. Somewhere public where she can’t run.”

“I’ll have something by morning.”

I hung up and gathered the documents, but one photo stayed on my desk—Eva’s arm around Ethan, both smiling at the camera.

My kids.

I’d never wanted children. The idea of failing them like my father failed us always terrified me. But this wasn't a theory. They were real, living in this city.

What did they like? Were they good in school? Did Eva believe she was truly a princess, or just pretend? Did Ethan’s serious look hide storms like mine once did?

The questions suffocated me.

The desk phone rang. “Yes?”

“Sir, I have the address you requested,” Raymond said. “Lily Harper is CEO of Harper Events on Fifth Avenue. Should I set a meeting?”

Lily ran her own company. That fit. She had always been clever and ambitious, even back then when she was Adrian’s fiancée.

“No meeting,” I said. “But dig into her company—clients, recent events, everything.”

“Understood.”

After hanging up, I tried to work but failed. My mind circled back to Lily and the twins. How had she managed a business and raised two kids alone? Did she ever think of me? Did she regret that night?

By evening, I made a decision. No more waiting.

Tomorrow, I'll face her myself.

I searched Harper Events online, memorized the address, and closed my laptop. I felt nervous and something else I didn’t want to name. Lily wasn’t the shy girl I remembered. She had changed. Stronger. Confident. Would she still bite her lip when nervous?

Tomorrow will give me answers.

Still, one thought haunted me: Lily had hidden this secret for six years. She wouldn’t give it up easily. This wouldn’t be a conversation. It would be a fight. And I intended to win.

---

The next morning, I dressed carefully. Not too formal, not too casual. I needed control, authority—but not intimidation.

I took my ride to Fifth Avenue, using the ride to plan my words. How do you face the mother of your hidden children without making her run?

The Harper Events building was sleek glass and steel. Inside, the security standing in as a doorman greeted me politely. The directory showed the company on the fifteenth floor.

As my hands reached for the elevator button and pressed it they trembled slightly. I constantly had to remind myself: this was just another negotiation. I’d faced worse in boardrooms. I could face her.

The elevator chimed briefly, then I stepped out confidently into a stylish hallway. Everything seems polished and professional, a clear sign of success. Signs led me to the right door.

Harper Events. CEO: Lily Harper.

I pushed the door open.

The reception area was warm and professional. A young woman at the desk greeted me.

“Good morning. How may I help you?”

“I’m here to see Ms. Harper. I have a potential project.”

“Do you have an appointment?”

“No. But she’ll want to see me.”

Her polite smile faded when she heard my name. Stone Global carried weight. She called someone, then pointed down the hall.

“Third door on the right. She’ll see you now.”

I walked down, my steps soft on the carpet. The door was slightly open. I saw movement inside.

I knocked once and entered.

My eyes fell on Lily at once. She stood behind her desk, arranging papers. Her short wavy hair fell to her shoulders.

She appeared smart and professional in the navy blazer she wore. When she turned, I stopped.

She had changed. The uncertain girl I once knew was gone. In her place stood a woman of presence, a woman who had built something of her own.

Our eyes locked.

And in hers, I saw fear.

  • His Brother's Bride    Chapter 6: Doubts.

Julian’s pov Three days had passed since I saw those kids at the park and their faces replayed in my mind. I tried everything to get them out of my head. Work helped for a while, contracts, figures, meetings but the effort felt mechanical. I ran at five in the morning until the streets were empty and my legs hurt, but the girl’s bright smile and the boy’s serious face still wouldn’t leave my mind. Their likeness stuck with me like a tiny splinter. By Thursday, I was pacing in my office. Each coffee Raymond brought grew cold on my desk while I stared at the city, trapped in the same thought. “Sir?” Raymond’s voice pulled me back. “Your ten o’clock with the board is in fifteen minutes.” “Cancel it,” I said without turning. He paused. “Sir, this is the quarterly review.” “I said cancel it.” My voice, sharp. He paused, then stepped out.The door clicked closed and I was left with the silence and the thought I had been avoiding: those children weren’t random. They had the look of

  • His Brother's Bride    CHAPTER 5 – Meeting

~ Julian ~ Ever since I laid eyes on her, I just couldn’t concentrate. Lily. After six long years, she suddenly appeared out of nowhere, looking… different. Colder. It felt like the Lily I once even knew even tho we weren't close or spoke much had been tucked away, replaced by someone polished and distant. When I called her name, she didn’t even flinch. No surprise. No emotion. Just… nothing. And it drove me absolutely mad that it affected me so deeply. By five o’clock, I finally admitted to myself that I couldn’t get any work done. I grabbed my suitcase and was heading for the exit when Raymond, my assistant, popped up. “Sir, before you head out,” he said quickly, “just a quick reminder, you have a meeting at Midtown Mall tomorrow at two p.m. The manager of the new flagship store wants to finalize the partnership deal.” I nodded absentmindedly. “Okay. Just send me the details.” He stepped aside as I walked out of the building. --- The next day, I arrived at Midtown Mall a

l Six Years Later ~ Lily ~ "Mom! Mom! Ethan says I can’t wear my princess crown today!" Eva shouted, stomping her little foot across the living room. "Of course, but I can!" Ethan shot back, proudly pointing to his own homemade crown. "You think you’re the princess of the castle? Well, I’m the king, and kings make the rules!" I peeked over the kitchen counter, trying to hold back my laughter at their playful squabble. "What’s all this noise about?" I asked, my voice laced with amusement. "He said I can’t be the princess today!" Eva exclaimed, dramatically pointing at the stuffed castle in the corner. "Because you’re the princess every single day! Today, I get to be king!" Ethan declared, puffing out his chest like it was a royal decree. "Oh really? Then why are you wearing a cape like Superman, Kings don't wear capes?" Eva shot back, a smirk creeping onto her face. I chuckled, shaking my head. "Alright, you two, calm down. You can both wear your crowns. But first, it’s breakf

  • His Brother's Bride    CHAPTER 3 – Wedding Over

A MONTH LATER ~ Lily ~ The week leading up to the wedding was supposed to be the busiest time, packed with final presentations, meetings, and a ton of last-minute details. I was doing my best to focus, making sure everything looked perfect on the outside. But today, my body had other plans, reminding me that I was more than just a picture-perfect bride-to-be. I was in the middle of going over a bunch of floral arrangements when a sudden wave of nausea hit me. I pressed my hand against my stomach, trying to brush it off. "I’ll just… step out for a moment," I said quietly, managing a weak smile for the people around me. By the time I made it to the restroom, the nausea had become unbearable . I barely reached the sink before I was committed, my body shaking and feeling utterly drained. Minutes felt like hours as I got rid of everything I had eaten, my head spinning and my stomach churning. When it finally calmed down, I leaned against the counter, beads of sweat trickling down m

  • His Brother's Bride    CHAPTER 2 – The Morning After

~ Lily ~ A relentless pounding in my head felt like a hammer striking my skull, and my body was heavy, sore, and unresponsive. Slowly, I blinked against the dim light filtering through the curtains, trying to remember where I was. Fragments of last night crashed into my mind—sipping champagne until I felt lightheaded, Sophia helping me upstairs, the soft hum of the hotel corridor, and… him. A chill ran down my spine as I noticed the tangled sheets. My body felt heavy, aching in every joint. Then it hit me: I was naked. My stomach twisted, and my heart raced. I blinked, trying to make sense of the warm presence beside me. Another naked figure. Panic gripped me, sharp and relentless. I recalled flashes of last night: his lips on mine, the weight of his body against me, the way his hands explored, the heat, the breathless moans that left me trembling… My cheeks flushed as the memories of our intimacy, his kisses, his caresses, the rhythm of our bodies entwined flooded back in vivid,
