~Ioana~

"Your Majesty," a body flew towards me with such speed that it left blurs behind. She skid to a halt right before me, dropping to her knees with a resounding thud.

Her fingers wrapped around her white apron, wrinkling it as they trembled from excitement.

"Your Majesty, thank you very much," her eyes sparkled like diamonds.

I chuckled, leaning forward. I placed my hand on her shoulders, the muscles under my fingers clearly tensed. "Don't stress yourself," exerting strength, I tried to lift her up. "There, there, you're just recovering. Don't put such kind of strain on yourself. If you fall ill again, who will be my personal…" the word maid felt a little bitter on my lips. Without blinking an eye, I swiftly changed the word, "who will be my personal attendant?"

Her gaze fell to the floor. "Your Majesty, you may not really understand, but when I heard that out of all the maids you had chosen me, I was really…" she choked, lifting up her head, exposing her reddened eyes, gleaming

~Ioana~"What reason could be good enough for the years of maltreatment I've received?" I shot back at her, still not convinced by her words."For you it might not be much, but what about your protection and the freedom you have now?""I've never had freedom. Not then, not now.""Then how would you like a life of luxury and wealth until your eyes see higher than the heavens, becoming arrogant and prideful?"I paused, a picture of my nose pointed upwards as I walked came to my mind. I shook my head at the strange image that appeared."Or what about being cherished by everyone, only to die from poisoning at age five?"'That was even worse,' I thought."Perhaps you might prefer growing up with all the finest things in life, only to become a puppet under another's control. Everything you do or say will be according to that person's wishes."'Scratch that. This is the worst. A luxurious cage— isn't that the

~Ioana~“Elder Mirelda, what do you mean by such words?” a fierce growl sounded beside me. It was Alessandro—his eyes raging gold, his chest heaved, the temperature of the room suddenly shot through the roof. While I was knocked breathless, Alessandro wasn’t supposed to be king. Then who was? I wondered, my thumb brushing my chin.“It’s you,” a voice answered my thoughts.“That can’t be right, why would I be—” I froze still, my head snapping up. “Y-you heard m-me?” I stammered, a flush coating my cheeks red.“As clear as day,” it was Elder Barion who replied again, giving me a nod.Unconsciously, I had spoken my thoughts out loud and got replied to. Sixteen pairs of eyes drilled holes into me; I wanted the earth to crack up and swallow me whole. But Elder Barion’s reply hadn’t yet registered in my head.“What do you mean by this? Explain!” A harsh voice broke through my shame, pulling my thoughts back on track.“The night of the coronation was spectacular,” Elder Barion bobbed his hea

~Ioana~“Her Majesty, Ioana makes her entrance!” I gave a slight nod to the man who stood by the door, who yelled out.The burly men on either side of the massive door, with taut muscles, pulled open the doors, and the room unveiled itself to me.I had only one word to describe it with—magnificent.Towering ceilings, chandeliers, marble flooring so polished the hem of my gown was reflected back at me with each swish, a red rug rolled down the middle from the entrance up to…The corner of my lips twitched. A semicircle of elderly wolves, one at the center—Elder Thalvorn—staring straight at me with a frown on his face. By his side was Elder Caldren, who glowered. After him was Elder Ysara—she had her eyes closed shut, her face blank. After her was Elder Barion—he eyed me over and over, as if checking for something.By his left was Elder Mirelda, her lips pursed. She shot me a complicated look I couldn't understand before throwing her face away. The robed elder remained mysterious, and t

~Ioana~My eyelashes fluttered open, squinting at the light. My eyes stung a little bit. I blinked twice, the world urged into focus, my mind calm—a serenity unique to only the morning hours before.Knock knock."Come in," I groaned, turning over to my side."Oh my, Madame!" Vivian exclaimed. "The elders have requested your audience at noon."'The elders?' Repeating the name that seemed to hover over the surface of my mind, never sinking."What elders?""The elders of our kingdom, Madame," Vivian replied, dragging her words, sounding puzzled.Still staring at the ceiling, I said, "What did you say they requested again?" my tone flat."They request your audience at noon, Madame.""Oh, it's noon," I replied with a drowsy mind. "Wake me up later. I'll just catch some sleep for a while.""Madame, it's almost noon!" Vivian cried out, her voice sharp, piercing through the fog brought by sleep."Almost what? Noon?" I shot up from the bed, staring at her with wide, incredulous eyes. "You're

~Ioana~"All of them. Not even one. No, they're extinct way before our time." Shutting Selenara’s gaze towards us.His fingers clenched, and what seemed like frustration flickered through his eyes too fast for me to see the second time.I held my breath. For some reason, it suddenly became harder to breathe, like the air just wouldn't pass through my lungs. My chest heaved, a sharp pain shooting through my chest.I clutched at it, massaging my chest with a grimace on my face. "So what happened next?" I asked, my voice dropping far below a whisper. The question still sat in my mind—if the royals went extinct, how did they become the next royals? And who was strong enough to massacre the whole royal lineage, and for what reasons? But before I could voice out the questions plaguing me, Alessandro stood up from the chair. "I believe I've satisfied your curiosity."'No, actually, you haven't in the lightest. Instead, you brought more questions.' That was my thought, but I couldn't say it.

  • His Captive, His Mate, His Queen    Chapter 32: The Royals Fate

~Ioana~A fleeting smile crossed my lips, Vivian still remembered my words earlier. He walked behind me for some reason that left me both puzzled and slightly frazzled. The piercing stare boring holes into my neck was just too intense to ignore.Wasn't he a strict follower of rules? Usually, a person of higher rank walks before one of lower rank.I halted before the chairs, gesturing over to them, "Your Majesty, the Prince," the title flowed somewhat awkwardly from my lips."Please, have a seat." This time I waved, sighing in relief after he sat, sitting right afterwards. My finger dug into the robe, clenching it. The place settled down into silence."My brother, Radu, has always been mischievous." This time, to my shock, it was Alessandro that broke the tense silence. "Sometimes his mischievousness can cross limits." He glanced at me. "You have to understand that—"His gaze dropped down to the empty gap between us, narrowing down on the obvious four identical dent-like marks left by

~Ioana~With a soft thud, Vivian gently set the jug filled with water on the table. But froze when she noticed the frown marring my lips."Is something the matter, Madame?"She asked tentatively.I shook my head but paused. 'Why should I endure it?'"Vivian…" I called out to her."Yes, Madame?""Replace the table… looking at it spoils my appetite…""I'll do that right away, Madam—"At this time, someone rapped on the door. We both froze still. It was slow and powerful, knocking only thrice before stopping. I and Vivian shared a glance—mine full of inquiry and hers trepidation. Her fingers shook, intensifying when I asked,"Vivian, did you tell the kitchen to bring us more cookies?" Tilting my head to ask."N-No, Madame," she stuttered. "I also wasn't expecting anyone."For some reason, my usually swift response was lagging."Stay here. I'll go check." I stood, the chair making a low shuu shifting backward against the rug."Madame!" Vivian exclaimed, alarmed. "I'll go instead," she gra

~Ioana~“Listen up.” Prince Radu said, clapping twice.“We both know how Alessandro is. He treasures that throne more than any other thing—he’s been fighting for it since he was born, and only the goddess knows the bloody things he’s done to keep it.”Prince Radu's index finger tapped the table in a rhythmic, unsettling sound that echoed through the room.Tap tap tap.“I'll help you… we can partner together. It's very simple… I’ll protect you from his wrath and you’ll… help me in return,” Prince Radu said, his voice like a slithering serpent. His eyes flashed with cunning and cruelty, weaving a verbal cage of deceit. The worst thing? Despite knowing, I was falling for it.Today I felt it—Alessandro—his eyes on me changed. I wasn't sure if it's a good or bad change. If I was to follow what he's saying, then it's a bad change… and he's planning something. If it was before, I would have joined hands with him out of fear. But the

~Ioana~Vivian's grip on the doorknob trembled. Even from where I sat, I could see veins popping out, showing the force she used. "Aren't you going to let me in?" As if not seeing how wrong the atmosphere was, Radu’s grin widened.I kept down the cup of tea in my grip, thoughts flittered through my mind as fast as the wind. Why was he here? This late in the night? Smoothing the creases that formed from my movements, taking advantage of the fact that he couldn't see me, I stood up, walked to the closet, and took out a robe, fastening it. Once I was done and properly covered, I cleared my throat."Vivian, allow him in."Vivian’s head snapped to mine in disbelief, but my face was stern, hiding my thoughts—or I hoped I did successfully.I gave in, widening the space between the door and she. Radu weaved through it, sauntering into my room, his eyes locked on me. Vivian retreated in search of a chair, and when she found it, before she could properly place it across the bed's side table use
