This time when I woke up, I didn’t know if it was because I knew I was safe or the pills that Brown had given me helped, but my body didn’t ache nearly as much. Of course, not having Baxter beside me did upset and scare me a little but as he had told me before, he was out dealing with these men to make sure it could never happen again.

The apartment did smell delicious though, opening up my eyes to find Smith cooking away in the kitchen, the guns still sat on the table and a couple on the counter closer to him in case something happened, I couldn’t help but smile, wrapped myself in the warmest blanket that was placed over my body and slowly made my way closer to the kitchen watching and helping where I could.

As we cooked, Smith did his favourite task and chatted about anything that came to his mind, the chats and the cooking allowed time to slip away from us a little and before I knew it, Smith’s phone pinged on the counter.

Rose soon fell asleep in Baxter’s arms, the way her body fell into his and how safe she felt in his arms, only validated the way Baxter felt in this moment. A man who he had had some run ins with, in the past sent one of his own men, someone he had trusted with information about Rose to kill her. He would have preferred if he was the man who would have dealt when Thompson, have him beg Baxter to spare him just like he had forced Rose to do. Baxter imagined the many intricate ways he was going to use the same knife Thompson had to stab Rose but this time, make each slice not deep enough to kill him that moment but allow him to watch as all the blood drained from Thompson’s body. Not all was lost in Baxter’s mind, perhaps he couldn’t kill the man who hurt his Princess, but he still had the chance to torture the person who sent him. Gently moving Rose so her head fell onto a soft pillow and a soft blanket placed over her body, he ran his hand through her hair watching as she slept. “I

My mind began to flash through scenes of the days leading up to the stabbing, meeting Smith by the car with his suit, walking into Lukas’s mansion, the lights hanging from the ceiling seeming to shine even brighter than before, blinding me and flashing me to another scene, stood with Baxter holding me close in the same black dress, the blue in his eyes captivating as he looked into mine. But the very last scene to play was Thompson bursting through the door, him pinning me down on the floor holding my throat as he watched me gasp for air, those loud gunshot as he was shot by Riley louder than before causing my ears to ring so deafeningly, it was as though I was suffocating in the sound. But with a final flash of light, my eyes snap open allowing me to take the biggest breath of air possible, my body sending me in a sitting position as I looked around in a panic. My ears still rang so loud that all sounds from around me were nothing but a muffled noise, my heart pounding in my chest

My breaths came out in laboured pants as the wound on my shoulder still oozed with blood no matter how much pressure Riley would place on it and the many tea towels we’d ruined. His voice telling me to stay awake and how Baxter was on the way is the only thing which urged me to keep my eyes open, even though I was as optimistic as any other person, the thought that this stab wound was about to kill me clung to my thoughts. Getting to see Baxter one last time arched my heart but was also what spurred me on. The moment my eyes closed for the millionth time, the already open apartment door nearly flies from its hinges allowing my eyes to snap open and watch as Baxter and the rest of the guy's rush in. Baxter running faster than I’d ever seen him move before straight to my face and placed his hands on my cheeks while Brown, joins Riley at my shoulder and seemed to know what to do. “Bax…ter.” My weak voice managed to say through the tiredness I was feeling throughout my senses, I actua

The next morning, I was once again left in the apartment while Baxter hit the final job of his streak of heists which I had help him set up. This time, I had been given the strictest of instructions to not leave the apartment until he returned, an order he insisted I listened to and this time, it wasn’t Smith who was my babysitter but Riley instead. Baxter claimed this switch was because he needed Smith’s areas of expertise on this next job, but I wasn’t having any of it, Baxter was still pretty annoyed that Smith and I had left the apartment yesterday without his permission and he’d taken me somewhere. This was his way of keeping distance between Smith and I, not that I thought we needed any kind of distance. But I didn’t mind sitting with Riley, he and I always got along. So, as I stood behind the counter fixing him a coffee, he sat watching the TV with his feet up looking beyond comfortable with the set up. “Is this all Smith does all day when he’s with you, I may have to ask th

After I had explained my marvellous plan, the room dips into that same silence it had when we first entered the room. Burns slowly picked himself up off the floor with a bandage around his hand, Charles typed away on his laptop seeming to dig even deeper into the files Lukas sent while Baxter, could only look over to me with that same mixture of emotions on his face. I knew he would be angry when he heard I had done the very opposite to what he had told me to and started looking into Hayward, but now he saw I’ve been planning something which could end up saving his mother, I wondered if that anger would still be present. “Alright, I’ve sent a link with the location of this apartment building where your mother is being kept, along with the other files surrounding Hayward that your tech guy can look through.” Charles seemed to break the silence closing up his laptop and placing it back in his jacket, even though last time he and Baxter were together at his house, he didn’t seem to be
