Jane's p o v

I listened to the ticking of the clock as I knelt beside my bed. It was already late into the night. This was my only chance as Quinn Enricho wasn't home.

The door didn't make a sound as I opened it quietly. I had been moved from the small room I was before into this one by Emily.

As I stepped out, I was faced with a long spacious corridor. I was now wearing a gray coloured night dress which was brought to me by Emily.

She told me to make sure I wear the night dress or jefe would be angry.

I fled through the corridor looking at every corner of the walls to be sure there were no cameras. Luckily, I saw none.

I kept on staring back at the door to the room I came from.

I didn't know Quinn and I wasn't sure what he was up to. He had paid my bills fine and he was very hot but there was no way I could agree to spend the rest of my life with him because of that. If I didn't know better I would say he was really more dangerous than Fernando.

A picture frame hanging on the wall caught my attention. It was a picture of Quinn Enrico in a blue suit.

I couldn't help but admit over again how he was stunning. Although he was smiling, there was no recognizable emotion there. In fact he appeared to me as a monster.

In front of him sat a lady in a fine matching blue gown. She looked very calm but wasn't smiling. Her straight black hair swept to one side was spread over her shoulder. She was so beautiful and but I got to notice something at that moment. I hadn't seen her before but it was obvious how she had a striking resemblance to me that even I noticed it.

It was like seeing myself in a mirror. We had so much in common. I didn't need to be told; I knew exactly who she was by looking at this portrait

I hear footsteps and hurry into the room opposite the picture. I hid in there till the men walked by.

I peeped out and saw them heading in the direction of my room. I hurried out and took the steps that led to where I felt should be the exit. Immediately I went through the door I heard noises and footsteps. I hid beside the shelf till all went quiet. I hurried out and ran through a door to find myself in the kitchen. Hearing a gasp behind me, I turn to see Emily standing.

I had no clue why she wasn't asleep but what I knew was that it wasn't a good thing that she saw me while trying to run away.

" Emily... " I called quietly and went to her. I grab her hands and peer into her face. " Please, you have to help me. You can't tell anyone you saw me. Please. I have a life out there. I have to see my mum. "

She only stared at me unsure. " This is a bad idea. " I could see the apprehension in her eyes as she whispered back to me. But I'm sure girl to girl we could sort it out.

" Help me. " I plead and she exhales before pointing to the door by her left. " You'll find the exit. "

" Thank you. " I whisper and take to my heels. I followed the straight corridor till I saw the stairs. I hurried down and I faced a door above which was written EXIT in red. I opened the door and ran into the surprisingly dark room. Someone else shuts the door behind me and I pause.

I turned around to see the bulky guard standing. I knew instantly Emily had set me up.

" No! No! Let me go! Ahh!!! " I cried and kicked as he dragged me back. This time, to a different room. He makes me sit on a chair.

He was really strong, because despite my struggles and threats, he still handled me all by himself. He was tying my hands together.

My screams turned into grunts as he attached a black tape over my mouth to shut me up. My grunts turned to frustrated tears and I let them pour cause that was all I could do now.

After what seemed like forever, I heard a marching toward me. My breath shuddered as I pushed my head back as the footstep becomes louder. It should be sunrise now.

I looked up with my swollen bloodshot and tired eyes to see Enricho standing at the door with a number of his suited men. " How would you have her like this? " I heard him yell. " She's no prisoner! "

Immediately, one of them came forward to untie me. Enricho comes before me and his soft fingers dab my cheeks as he pulls the tape off my mouth.

All I could do was stare weakly at him. " You tried running away. Why would you do that? "

" You can't keep me here for long. " I managed to retort. I wasn't afraid of him now.

" I thought we talked this over earlier and you came to reason with me? "

" I never told you that? Do you really think you can just keep me here out of my own will?"

" Yes. I can. " He says coldly. " You can't run away from me. " He blurted with a scowl before peering into my eyes. " Nobody does. This is your home now, Lucia. "

" My name is Jane. " I fired angrily and lowered my head.

" My bad. " He rises up and pushes a hand into his pocket. " I can't lose you again. " He beckons to one of his men who brings forward a system and places it on my lap.

As my eyes gaze up at the screen of the laptop, I gasp as I see Tim's image in front of me. I watch the live footage of Tim sitting lazily in his mother's garden. I believe he was trying to fix the mower before which he squatted.

I don't know how they managed to get someone to be watching him. " We have a visual on him, jefe. " Bruno said and my eyes darted back to the screen.

" I have my eyes on everyone you know. Everyone you love. " Quinn's voice pierces my ear from behind. I began to shake while he continued. " You wanted to run off because of him. To meet your chicky boyfriend! "

" Don't hurt him, please. " I pleaded, tears pouring now.

" You don't try to run from me because of anything. Especially not because of some boy!"

" My sniper has a clear target on him, jefe. We're waiting for your order. " Bruno reported again.

JANE My hands were constantly tapping at the table as I watched the clock. It was already a few minutes to midnight. Quinn should've been back by now. I paced back to my room and slithered up my bed, hugging my legs. When my eyes fell back to the reading table, they lingered for a while. I'd probably wake up to meet him sitting up there in the morning. Watching me.But he wasn't.The door pushed open and Emily hurried in, packing up my curtains for the late morning.Something didn't feel right. "Is Quinn back?" I asked."No ma'am," She said quickly and hurried into the bathroom to get my bath ready.I shake my head, getting up. "Why isn't he back?" "I don't know, ma'am. It's not in my place to know. He's usually away this much... Sometimes," she bends down to fix the bed sheets, her bob hair falling down her face."If something happened to Quinn, tell me!" She stood her face tightening suddenly."El jefe is a strong man. Nothing would happen to him," She said that she was ass

QUINNVenice pulls over beneath the sky’s blackened canopy, near the flickering streetlights. I drop my hoody and step out, my movements slow, until I slid into the seat beside her.“I bet I never asked you this before,” she said, eyes forward. “You sure about this?”“Yes.” I cock my pistol and her gaze linger on me with clear readable doubts. “You found this man for me. Shouldn’t I be the hesitant one?”She exhaled. “Yeah. He’s the one. That’s Igor. But I’ve never seen you hunt someone down for someone else. Rather people do it for you.”“He wronged me,” I said, pushing the gun back into my pocket and pulling my hood up. “I told you before.”“You’re doing it for that girl, aren’t you?”I bit down on my lip for a few seconds before reaching across her side of the door and pulling it open. “I owe you one, V.”She shrugs. “Nope. You only owe me my balance.” She stepped out of the car.I reached for my pocket and stretched out a card to her. She stands eyeing it for some seconds."Have M

JANE As the coffee steamed up in my face I rubbed my temple slowly. It was still very early with nothing but the warm lights slipping through the kitchen windows.I took a sharp sip of my coffee and pushed the cup between my hands laid flat on the table.Just then, another pair of hands slides forward at each side of my arms and I feel Quinn's warmth behind me."Sneaking up to drink?" He murmured."It's just coffee."He leaned back, heading for the fridge in matching cardigan and joggers. He returns with two bottles of water and sits opposite me."So, the meeting from last night... Have there been other news?""Well, neither of us have spoken yet but I'm pretty sure there'll be. Soon," a bottle squeezes in his grip. "You amazed me again - you did really great last night.""I'm good," I raise my cup to him. "at what I do.""Except you almost ruined it in the end.""Ruined it? I just had a drink and the next thing you bundled me out. What's the point of going to the club if I can't dr

QUINN"I'm gonna have to ground you now," I said, breaking out of her spell and drawing back."And how would you do that?" She staggers to her feet. "Lock me up in here and make sure I read twenty books in two days?""That'll be fair."She giggles and continues drawing close to me. "What if I make it up other ways?" Her hands slide slowly across my sides and her lips stand before mine. "Did you really think anything was gonna happen with me and that Mateo guy?"I pushed my mouth to her ear. "You wouldn't cause you know you have me to come home too and I'm just enough.""Oh, please!" She pushes me off and steps past me. Like a bodyguard, I'm turning around to watch her.She stood still before the closet, and stopped tugging at her sleeves."I wanna undress! Are you just gonna stand there and watch too?"I don't move an inch. She sighs in defeat and walks back to me. Standing with only a little space between us, she turns around and sweeps her curls to the front. "You might as well j

QUINN“You vouch for him?” Vetrova nods towards me.Lucia’s gaze didn’t waver. “Of course. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”She lifted the third glass to her lips, sipping slowly while I watched her from the corner of my eye.“Manuel Rodrig’s house is a citadel for the Family,” she continued calmly. “And I have his support.”Her hand slid onto my thigh. “We have his support.”“Now imagine,” I folded my arms and leaned forward, resting them on the table, “approving this alliance and having me in this circle. It's just like having Rodrig, himself. Lucia's with us - Rodrig's with us.”“Liability, No?” Lucia asked lightly, reaching for the glass Mateo just re-filled at the center of the table for her. “Asset, Yes?”“I control the highest branches of underground channels in the country,” I added. “Imagine the progress - for all of us.”Vetrova stroked his beard slowly. “You do have a point, Quinn. Your power matters.”“All power does,” I replied evenly, leaning back as Lucia pulls the glas

  • His Dangerous Obsession    83

QUINNI stepped out of the Jeep and held the door, Lucia’s voice pulling me back just before I shut it.“You sure I shouldn’t come yet?”“No.” I slid my black shades over my eyes. “If things go well, you might not need to come at all.”“You need me there,” she murmured, but not moving an inch.“Let’s hope I don’t.”I shut the door and headed into the clubhouse with only Mario behind me.If I had my way, I wouldn’t bring her to places like this. I didn't have these worries till now. These men weren’t enemies, of course. But that’s what I’d thought last time. She’d been quiet lately. Avoiding my eyes. Speaking only when I asked. That night I wrapped her in my arms after forcing her to talk about her father. I thought she’d finally found comfort in my arms. But then she pushed me away, as if angry, unsettled - like she hated how easily I’d cracked her open. Refusing to succumb to affection I didn't have but was willing to give. As if the affection frightened her more than my violence.Tw
