"You're insane," I snarled, struggling against Harrison's hold. "You can't just steal someone's child!"

"I'm not stealing anything." Kane straightened his torn shirt, his composure already returning. "I'm saving a life. Something you clearly couldn't be bothered to do."

"I didn't know!" The admission tore from me. "I didn't know she was pregnant when I rejected her!"

Chapter 27: The Hospital Gambit Ella POVThe helicopter's rotor wash nearly knocked me over as we landed on Ashworth Memorial's helipad. Kane cradled Luna like she might shatter, his blood-soaked arms trembling."Move!" Dr. Sarah barked at the trauma team waiting with a gurney. "Gunshot wound to the chest, cardiac arrest reversed once, she's barely holding on."They transferred Luna with practiced efficiency. Kane refused to let go of her hand, jogging alongside the gurney as they rushed her inside.I followed on unsteady legs, my pregnant belly heavy and awkward. The baby kicked hard, sensing my fear."Ella." Nathaniel's hand steadied me from behind. "You shouldn't be here. This is Theron's hospital.""Luna would want me here." I kept moving toward the elevator. "And she saved Dr. Sarah's life. I'm not abandoning her now."The doors closed on us, the sterile smell making my stomach turn. Kane stared at his sister's pale face, his jaw working."She can't die," he said, voice shattere

The ice-blue eyes that found mine instantly, assessing, calculating.Vivian's gun swung between Kane and me. "How touching. The obsessed Alpha comes to save his precious baby mama." Her finger tightened on the trigger. "But you're too late, Kane. This ends now.""Lower the weapon, Vivian." Kane's voice rolled through the cabin, all Alpha commands. We're walking right into his trap and setting it off from the inside.Harrison coughed by the door. Ella, check this out. He opened his laptop, typing like crazy. "This could be staged. Your father's been working with Theron against Nathaniel for months. This might be a theater designed to lure you back.""Or it might be real, and Kane is torturing him."Nathaniel's jaw clenched. "Your father threw you out. Chose his political position over his pregnant daughter. You don't owe him a rescue.""He's still my father.""Who abandoned you when you needed him most.""I know what he did!" Ella's scream cut through the night as she and Luna disappeared over the side.My wolf surged forward. I launched myself into empty air.The fall felt endless. The wind roared past my ears. Then I hit water so cold it drove the air from my lungs.I surfaced, gasping, scanning desperately through the darkness and spray. The rapids churned around me, trying to drag me under."Ella!" My voice barely carried over the rushing water.A flash of movement downstream. Luna's dark hair. She was struggling to keep Ella's head above water, but the current was too strong.I swam hard, letting the rapids carry me faster. My hand closed around Ella's arm just as a wave pulled her under.
