Sixty-Two

“What is wrong with you, Aria?” she whispered to herself, fingers gripping the cold rail of the balcony. “You are just his doctor. You are here to work. Nothing more.”

Her voice broke on the last word.

She lifted her hand and covered her mouth, as if that could stop the thoughts spilling out. The city below looked the same as always. Cars moving. People living.

A normal world that didn’t know how tangled her own had become in just a few hours.

Damien was asleep inside. Finally. Slumped, restless even in sleep, like his body didn’t trust rest anymore. She had stayed longer than she should have. She knew that. She had crossed a line she swore she would never cross.

And the worst part was not that she stayed.

It was that she didn’t regret it.

The balcony door creaked softly behind her.

Aria stiffened. She didn’t turn right away.

She already knew who it was. She had felt his presence earlier, before Damien fell asleep. A quiet watcher. A heavy silence that didn’t belong to the

Chapter Seventy One She adjusted the bag on her shoulder and started walking toward the exit, her steps quicker now, like she needed to get out before the whole place caved in on her. The cool air from the AC felt colder suddenly, raising goosebumps on her arms. Her mind raced replaying the bump, the recognition in Clara's eyes, the way she didn't even bother with words. Just that shoulder check, like Aria was dirt on her shoe. Who does that?Outside, the sun hit her like a slap, bright and unrelenting. She blinked a few times, spotting the SUV parked exactly where the driver had left it. He saw her coming and opened the door without a word, professional as always. Aria slid into the back seat, clutching the bag in her lap like a shield. *****She dropped the bag on the bed and stared at it for a minute. The dress was in there, that simple blue thing she'd picked because it didn't scream for attention. But now, after Clara's shove, it felt tainted. Like wearing it would be admitti

Chapter SeventyRichard stood in the hallway, arms crossed, watching Damien scroll through his phone like the world wasn't waiting on him. "Today the Greysons dinner you need to be there Damien. Though you know nothing about the empire your presence matters," he said, keeping his tone even, but inside he was boiling. How many times had he tried to pull this boy into the family business? It felt like talking to a wall sometimes.Damien didn't even glance up at first. He just kept tapping away, probably checking some social feed or whatever nonsense kept him distracted these days. "I am aware I read it in the bulletin of the company," he muttered, finally meeting his father's eyes for a split second.Richard raised an eyebrow, surprised but not in a good way. "Ohh you know about the company bulletin yet you don't show up." There it was—the old frustration bubbling up. Damien shoved his phone into his pocket, already shifting his weight to leave. "This is not the perfect time to talk ab

Chapter Sixty NineAria got home, but her body arrived before her mind did. She dropped her bag by the door and stood there longer than necessary, staring at nothing. Last night kept replaying, uninvited, unwanted, yet stubborn. She moved to the mirror and caught herself blushing. The way Damien’s hands had held her. Not gentle. Not loving. Just desperate. The way his voice had softened for a moment, how he had mumbled things he would never say sober. How close he had been.“I knew he was drunk,” she whispered to her reflection, almost as if that would calm her thoughts. But it didn’t.Her heart fluttered in a way that embarrassed her. She hated that her body remembered something her mind knew better than to trust. She hated that a small part of her had felt wanted, even if it was born from confusion and alcohol. She shook her head and walked away from the mirror.“This is stupid,” she muttered, folding her arms around herself. “It doesn’t mean anything.”Still, her cheeks burned. She

---Chapter Sixty Eight“Fuck,” Damien muttered, splashing water on his face as he stared at his reflection. His eyes looked tired. Not regretful. Just irritated. He rubbed his hands over his face and leaned closer to the mirror. “I hope I didn’t do anything yesterday to that woman.”He straightened quickly, as if the thought annoyed him.“If Clara finds out, I’m finished,” he added under his breath. He dried his face roughly and scoffed. “Classless woman. Just wanted to test the Greyson name.”He didn’t think beyond that. He didn’t ask himself why Aria had been there. Why she had looked the way she did. Why she had gone quiet after. He walked out of the bathroom, already dismissing her from his mind.---Aria booked a taxi as soon as she stepped outside. The ride to the hospital felt longer than usual. She sat with her hands folded in her lap, staring out of the window, watching people move on with their lives like nothing ever went wrong. When she reached the ward, her father’s face

---Chapter Sixty-SevenDamien woke up with a sharp breath, his body stiff, his head pounding like he had lost a fight he couldn’t remember agreeing to. The first thing he felt was warmth pressed against him. Soft. Bare. Too close. He looked down.Aria lay beside him, naked, her head resting on his chest like it belonged there. One arm curved over his stomach, her breathing slow, calm. Peaceful in a way that made something twist inside him.His face hardened instantly.“What the hell—” he muttered, pushing her arm off him like it burned.Aria stirred, blinking slowly as she woke. The moment her eyes met his, her expression shifted. Confusion first. Then fear.“Damien?” her voice was small. Careful. He shoved her hard.“Get off me.”She cried out as she rolled away, scrambling to cover herself. Her hands shook as she grabbed the blanket, wrapping it around her body like armor.“What did you do?” he snapped, sitting up. “What did you think you were doing?”Her lips trembled. “You… you c

Chapter Sixty SixThe cloth moved slowly across the floor as Aria wiped away dust that never seemed to end. This corner of the room had become familiar to her. The wall. The floor. The small space she folded herself into every night. Her hair was still tied back. Her sleeves rolled. She was tired in a way sleep never fixed. The door opened. Not gently.Damien stumbled in, his steps his body leaning against the doorframe for balance. The smell followed him before his voice did. Alcohol. Sharp and careless.Aria froze. She stood up immediately, instinct taking over. “Sir—”He saw her and stopped, swaying.“Come here,” he said. Voice thick, words bumping into each other. She knew he was drunk. Really drunk. The kind where tomorrow he might not remember half of it. She pushed up off her knees anyway, brushed her hands on her thighs, walked over. He leaned toward her like his body had forgotten how to stand straight. She caught his elbow, tried to steady him.“Kiss me,” he said.Just like
