Emily was not prepared for this moment. She has gone through a lot of things recently. Her husband's betrayal that led to the end of their three years marriage and the threats that came with the investigation. But none of those things compared to what she thought she would face in the doctor's office.

“Let us go to the hospital right now,” Sophia urged her. Emily agreed and went back to the other room to grab her bag while Sophia collected her car keys.

She sat quietly in the car on their way to the hospital. She just wondered why the result would be. When they eventually arrived, the nurse at the reception recognized them and took them straight to the doctor's office. The doctor was already there waiting in his office like he knew they were coming.

“Good evening, please have your seats,” the doctor said.

Emily moved the chair and sat down anxiously with Sophia gracefully sitting beside her. The nurse handed her folder to the doctor and he opened it and looked at it. “Your test results are here,” the doctor said. “Is there something wrong with me?” Emily asked as she held her breath waiting for the doctor to reply. “Would you excuse us for a moment,” the doctor tells Sophia. “She is my friend, I don't mind if she hears whatever it is,” Emily said.

“We ran a pregnancy test for you because of your symptoms, and it came out positive,” the doctor said as she glared at Emily.

As soon as she heard that, a cold sweat rushed through her body. “Are you saying that I am pregnant?” Emily asked. “Yes, you are,” the doctor responded. And for a few minutes, Emily sat quietly with her heart beating fast. “How far has it gone?” She asked. “It is still in the early stages, but you will still do an ultrasound to ascertain,” he replied.

Emily hardly heard what the doctor said. She was already thinking about what happened the day of her third anniversary with Damian. She and Ryan had been going through a rough patch. The past three months, before the day of the anniversary, had felt like living beside a stranger. Ryan had become distant, distracted, glued to his phone even during dinner. Late-night business calls. Weekend meetings. Half-hearted kisses. Conversations that ended before they began.

But that anniversary night was her chance to remind him of who they used to be. Obviously things did not work out as planned.

“Are you sure,” Emily asked the doctor again. “It has been confirmed,” he responded.

Sophia held her hand and comforted her.

“I have no idea what to do,” Emily said. “I don't think you should do anything right now," Sophia replied.

Emily looked down and wrapped her arms around her stomach. “This is definitely Damian's baby,” she said as her heart beat fast. “This is going to be very complicated,” she said. Her divorce with Ryan has not even begun. Technically, she is still married to him.

“Do you think you should tell Damian?” Sophia asked. “ I am not sure yet,” she replied as she looked at the floor in confusion.

While they were still at the doctor's office talking to the doctor about the pregnancy, Emily's phone rang. Damian was calling her. She just looked at it and ignored it. She didn't want to answer the call because he might ask her about the results. After Damian called the second time without any answers, he decided to leave her a text message.

“I want to see you. It is urgent.”

The message made Emily more scared than she already was. She was not ready to break the news to Damian yet.

She just discovered that she was pregnant with Damian's child, and in the same hour, Damian was already asking to see her.

Margaret inquired."What bothers you about it?""I know how readily old family matters can be misinterpreted."He gave her a thorough examination."Some kind of family m

It seemed as though the air in the room was being pulled in by that image.Emily noticed the unfamiliar man standing beside her parents.Sophia moved nearer."Do you know him?" Sophia asked.Emily shook her head from side to side."No," Emily replied. "I've never seen him before."Ryan kept his gaze fixed on the picture and answered, "I have."Emily turned sharply."Where?" Emily asked.Ryan hesitated."I can't recall his name.""That's not what I asked," Emily said.Ryan stared at her."I met him once when I was younger. At my mom's house."Sophia's expression grew hard."Margaret was acquainted with him?" Sophia asked.Ryan answered, "I believe so.""Do you think so?" Emily asked.Ryan rubbed his forehead.“She never gave any explanation for the people who came and went around my mother.”Emily looked at the picture once more."Why would my parents be involved with this man?"Ryan didn't have an answer.Neither did Sophia. For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Emily noticed something."W

Ryan had been avoiding Emily for weeks, but now that he understood he needed to see her, every route appeared to bring him back to her.Emily expected another update regarding the divorce when she arrived at Sophia's office the next afternoon.Upon spotting Ryan at Sophia's desk, she stopped. Her heart felt like it was tightening."What are you doing here?" Emily asked.Ryan stood on his feet and said, "I asked Sophia for a meeting."Emily said, "You should have checked with me first.""I suspected you would say no," Ryan replied."So at last, you know me well enough to say that," she said. For a moment, he looked at her."I heard you still want to go ahead with the divorce," he said."Yes, I will,” she replied."Are you happy?" He asked.Emily nearly laughed."Is that what you came here to ask?" She said "No,” he replied."Then ask what brought you here," she said.Ryan turned his gaze to Sophia."I've found out something regarding your inheritance."Emily's expression shifted."Wha

Even though Damian shut the penthouse door, the quietness between them seemed like another obstacle that neither of them knew how to remove.Emily gripped her bag tightly as she remained at the door.Damian watched her for a brief period of time."You came," Damian said.Emily replied, "You asked me to come."Damian said, "I wasn't sure you'd show up.""I also had some reservations," Emily said. They went into the living room.Emily recalled the last time she had been in that place. She had been keeping something hidden.Damian was now aware of it.But the secret's weight had increased in some way."Do you want a beverage?"Damian askedEmily replied, "No, thank you.""Would you like coffee?" Damian extended an offer.Emily nearly smiled at that."You know lately, coffee hasn't been my friend," she said.Damian said, "I remember."The quiet came back.Damian's attention briefly shifted to her before he averted his gaze. Damian had been struggling with the urge to ask a single question all night, and by morning, it was all he could think about.Emily stood in front of Sophia's flat, observing as the grey morning enveloped Manhattan. She had barely slept.Damian didn't reject her because of it.Infact, he had not rejected her at all. However, he had made a very clear point by not saying anything. The door was opened by Sophia."You're here ahead of time," remarked Sophia.Emily said, "I couldn't sleep."Sophia gave her face a look."Has Damian called?"Emily said, "Yes.""And?"Emily averted her eyes.He is eager to meet with me this evening.Sophia waited patiently. What Emily was actually asking was understood by her.“Does he trust you?” Sophia asked but Emily replied, "He wants time," instead.Sophia nodded her head slowly."Time has the potential to mean many different things," she said "I know," Emily said."What does it mean to you, then?" Sophia asked.A weak grin was all that Emily could must
