Chapter 16

Penulis: Crystal K
Isolde’s POV

Time slowed to a crawl.

The flash of silver.

The attacker’s snarl.

And then, a blur of motion.

A soul-scent I knew better than my own.

“Isolde!”

The word was a desperate prayer.

The blade found its home not in me, but in Darius. It sank into his chest with a sound I will never forget—a wet, final thud, followed by the hiss of holy fire meeting princely blood.

“No—!”

He collapsed into my arms, blood instantly soaking his white shirt.

The holy light began to spread, his skin turning p

Isolde’s POV“Yes.”My answer stunned everyone in the room.“Isolde?” Julian looked at me, a question in his eyes.“If you want to come, you can come,” I said to Darius. “But only to watch.”A flicker of light crossed Darius’s eyes. “Thank you.”The next morning, the doctors cleared Darius to leave the hospital for a few hours.“But not for long,” he warned. “The holy-light poison isn’t fully purged.”Julian had a formal invitation sent over, along with a blood-garnet brooch. It was the highest courtesy for a guest. At three o’clock, the ceremony began. The location was beside the oldest Fountain of Eternal Night in Switzerland. We were surrounded by the Alps, the snowy peaks glittering under the moonlight. The fountain’s water was black as a mirror, giving off a soft, silver glow.I wore a traditional black ceremonial gown, with a crown of blood-roses in my hair.Julian wore the deep blue ceremonial robes of a Prince, the gold sigil of the Sunstone Covenant pinned to his chest. The He

Isolde’s POV“It’s too late,” I said, looking down at Darius, who still stood before me like a supplicant.I met his gaze, my own unforgiving. “Five hundred years, Darius. And in all that time, you never saw me. You never truly loved me.”“You never once sent me a single blood-rose—the simplest token between mates—because you thought it was unnecessary ceremony.”“My passion, my talents… you dismissed them as a trivial hobby.”“You defiled the most sacred rite of our people, a bond blessed by the Night Goddess herself, for a pathetic, calculated lie.”Each word twisted like a silver knife in his heart.“I… I didn’t think any of that mattered…”“Exactly. It didn’t matter to you,” I looked down on him. “Because you thought I was your property. You thought I would never leave.”“Let me be clear, Darius,” my words were sharp as blades. “You’re not mourning us. You’re mourning your bruised ego. You can’t stand that a possession you thought was yours chose to leave.”He looked up at me, and

Isolde’s POV“That is not my responsibility.” My voice was as cold and clear as glass. “You broke it, Darius. You own the pieces.”The color drained from Darius’s face.“Let’s go,” I said, taking Julian’s hand and turning to leave.“Wait!” Darius called after us, his voice cracking with desperation. “Please, just give me a chance!”I didn’t look back.Julian drove me to my parents’ estate.“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice full of concern.“I’m fine,” I said, watching the city lights flash by. “I just didn’t expect to see him.”“If you’re not comfortable, we can head back to Vienna early.”“No,” I said, turning to him. “I’m not letting anyone change my plans.”Julian smiled gently. “That’s why I love you.”He stopped at my parents’ gate, and I gave him a soft kiss on the cheek before getting out.The moment I opened the door, I froze. There was someone sitting in the living room.Darius.“Isolde!” my mother said, standing up. “You’re back.”I looked at Darius on the sofa, my voice tu

Isolde’s POVTwo years later.I was back in New York. Not for Darius, but for the Global Supernatural Summit. It was the pinnacle of my career.“Isolde!” Chloe ran over to hug me. “Gods, you look amazing!”It was true. I had changed. Two years of research had elevated my powers to a new level.I was now the youngest Master in the Academy’s history.More importantly, I had found peace.“And who is this ‘we’?” Chloe asked, raising an eyebrow.I turned just as Julian walked toward us.He was handsome in a perfectly tailored black suit, his smile as warm as ever.“This is Julian,” I said, my voice clear and steady as I took his hand. “My research partner… and my life partner. My chosen blood-mate.”Chloe looked from me to him, a flicker of understanding in her eyes. “You two…”“Yes,” I said, squeezing Julian’s hand. “We’re together.”The celebration was held at New York’s most luxurious hotel. The hall was filled with familiar faces.Julian and I moved through the crowd as one. A single, s

Darius’s POVAn hour later, I burst into the resort estate.Livia was in bed, reading a book. Her face filled with panic when she saw me.“Darius? What are you—”“The blood moon,” I cut her off. “Five years ago.”Her face went pale. “What… what are you talking about?”“Who. Saved. Me?” I asked, each word a stone.“It was me, of course…” her voice trembled.“Liar!” I roared. “I relived the memory!”Livia’s book fell to the floor.“I… I helped, too…” she stammered. “We saved you together…”I walked toward her, staring into the eyes I once thought were so kind. Now all I saw was fear and deceit.“Did you know she almost died to save me?”“I… I didn’t know she would use that much…”“You knew!” my voice went cold. “You knew she loved me, you knew she would do anything to save me, so you let her go first! And then you made sure you were the first person I saw when I woke up.”The whole ugly truth was laid bare.I looked at the woman before me and felt nothing of the ‘life debt’ I thought I o
