The sound of beeping cut through my unconsciousness.

My eyes opened, but squeezed shut at the white light that greeted me.

I had to tilt my head to the side before opening it again.

“Oh my God, you're awake!” Rachel's voice rang in my ears, and I turned to where she was standing beside the bed.

But she wasn't alone.

A guy was with her. A familiar looking guy, but I want sure where.

It was then that my brain snapped... He was the one I bumped into at the company earlier that day.

But what was he doing here?

“I… I don't feel good.” My head was pounding, and my body ached. “What happened?”

That was when it all hit. Cassie. Drex. Dad. Trish.

They made my eyes widen. “How did I get here? What am I doing here?”

“Calm down.” Rachel tried to calm me down, but I couldn't.

My heart was racing, because if I remember clearly, I was just hit.

I should be on the floor or something.

What was I doing... wherever this was?

“You're in the hospital.” It was the guy that spoke, voice soft from where he sat.

“How did I get here? And what are you doing here? I don't even know who you are."

“I'm Leo." He introduced calmly.

That didn't make me feel any better. "How did I get here?"

The two shared a look, before he explained.

“I was on my way from work when I saw you laying on the floor, your phone was ringing, and I answered it.”

“I was calling to ask how you were doing.” Rachel said, “then he answered. He had taken you to the hospital and told me to come meet you.”

"Wait, did you say you saw me laying unconscious on the floor?" I had to ask, and when he nodded, my fingers curled in a fist.

Drex and Cassie actually had the nerve to leave me to die?

They left me on the floor?

I let out a dry chortle, head shaking in disbelief. “Do they know I'm here?”

Rachel nodded, then awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. “They sent you this.”

She picked up something from the table, and handed it to me.

When I read the wordings; ‘Divorce Papers’, I felt something explode in me.

“It was sent a moment ago.” She explained in a low voice, like I might break if she went any higher.

“Oh?” I huffed out a laugh.

Well I wasn't going to argue. I'd give them exactly what they wanted. “Hand me a pen.”

“Are you sure you don't want to wait till you're better?”

“No, Rachel. I want to end this. And I'm ending it now.”

She nodded, then went to get a pen.

My hands didn't tremble or my heart ache as I dropped my signature, determined to put an end to this.

They wanted a divorce, didn't they? Well, I was going to give them that.

Oh, but one thing was a certain.

The Lisa they had left to die wasn't this same woman who woke up.

Because I couldn't. I couldn't keep letting anyone play me around.

Not anymore.

Leo was there, watching me sign it like he knew this moment would change everything.

And once I was done, our eyes met. “I'll help you send it to him.” He offered.

"Hmm."

The room door opened and a doctor walked in.

He smiled when he noticed me. “Oh good, you're awake. How do you feel?”

“I've been better.”

"You know, it's a miracle that you're both alive. When you arrived, you seemed in a very bad condition."

I frowned. “What do you mean ‘both’?”

“Hmm?”

“You said both alive.”

“Oh, you don't know?”

“What?”

“You're pregnant, ma'am.”

I sucked in a large amount of breath. "Wha-What?"

"Pregnant?" Rachel gasped, staring wide-eyed at me. "Really?"

"Bu-But..." Shit!

Pregnant? I was pregnant?!

My fingers slowly curled around my stomach, eyes squeezing shut, because this shouldn't me.

Not now.

Not when Drex was already with someone else.

I shook my head.

This child... I would take care of him. I didn't need anyone's help. I could, and would do it.

FIVE YEARS LATER

-- Drex Drane --

"This is one of the biggest events of the year, sir." My secretary, Finn, said as we both got down from the car. "And I heard the CEO of TEAm will be around. We really need to secure a deal with them."

All I did was nod, and he knew that as room to keep quiet.

Heads bowed as we both walked out of the building, straight to my car, where he got into the driver's seat.

The moment we were in, my mind travelled to one woman.

Lisa.

Five years. It had been five years since she walked out of my life.

Five years since that guy handed over her signed version of the divorce papers.

I think 'that' was when my life started to crumble.

Each day after, I'd had to face the guilt of my action. The weight of it.

It didn't help that my company's stocks began to fall, profits dropping at an unhealthy rate.

I had only figured out months after the divorce that one of our brilliant minds of the company was her.

My ex-wife.

Yet I let her go that cheaply.

A soft sigh left my lips, just as my phone pinged with a message.

*Are you coming over tonight*

I didn't bother to reply.

Minutes passed before the car steered into the event. Something I only attended to gather business deals I would need for my company's increase.

Finn got down and moved over to open my side of the car, and we were both making our way into the hall.

It was just as expected, decorated nicely in gold, four chaired table arranged everywhere, waiters moved around with trays of different things, and billionaires pranced around with their chest puffed and head held high.

A typical event.

"Mr Drane." A voice from behind made me turn, to where a middle aged man walked over with a smile.

"It's nice to meet you Mr Gori." I managed to hide the lack of care from my tone.

"You too. Did you hear that the CEO of TEAm International will be attending this event?"

Why did everyone keep talking about this CEO?

It was weird because the company only started about four years ago, yet they managed to be one of the most spoken about industry.

"Yes sir," Finn intejected, "and we plan on joining hands with them."

"Oh? But I heard they don't collab with others that... easily."

"Really?"

At that point, I already lost interest, and was making my way to one of the tables when Gori continued. "The CEO is very strict. Oh wait, isn't that her?"

I didn't really care. Just offered a half glance and the moment my eyes landed on the CEO strolling in, every part of me froze.

A female.

She was dressed in elegance, emitting nothing but wealth as she strutted in, heeled feet filling the area.

My breath held, the color leaving my skin because this wasn't just any female.

It was her...

My ex-wife.

After David left, I just sat there for a long moment, recalling all the traumatizing things I faced when I lived with them.I didn't know how long I spent doing that, but afternoon arrived, and so did Drex with the great news that I'd been discharged.“Really?” I jumped out of bed, straight to his arms.He wrapped them around my waist. “Yeah, I just talked to the doctor.”A huge grin spread up my lips. “Does that mean I can finally see Imogen?”“Yup. She kept asking how you're doing. Our little angel wants you home as much as I do.”My heart melted at the words. “Awwn, I can't wait to see her too.”He pressed a peck on my lips. “Come on love, let's go home.”Drex slipped his hand on mine, and that afternoon, we both left the hospital together. There was a car already waiting for us. He opened the back seat for me, so I got in and he followed, keeping his hand on mine the entire time. All through the ride home, I rested my head on his shoulder, while he rubbed my thigh in a soothing ma

Drex had stayed with me all day, helping me with my medicines, and getting whatever it was I wanted to eat. He'd even slept the night, which I was grateful for, because the last thing I felt like doing after all that had happened was to spend a night alone in a hospital. The next morning, after we ate breakfast together, he had to leave to check up on Imogen and see how Kelesky was doing.Every part of me wished to follow him, but the doctor still had a few checkups to run on me before they could be sure if I should be bailed or not.Heck, I missed my daughter so much though. I wanted to see her. Touch her and know for myself that she was truly alright.“We just need to monitor your vitals, and if we see that you're alright, you can be discharged by afternoon.” The doctor I now knew as Felicia said that morning.“Thanks, I actually feel a lot better.” Which was true. I didn't know what pills they'd given me, but I could feel my energy returning. She offered me a warm smile, then left

    – Lisa Red –My head. It hurt a little bit. My body felt weird as well. What happened? I opened my eyes, but my forehead scrunched at the unfamiliar environment that greeted me.Where was I?A small sigh left my lips, as I turned my head to the side.Drex was sitting there, his head leaned against the wall, eyes closed, but he didn't look like he was asleep.Standing by the doorway was a bald man.Wait, was that David?I had to squint my eyes. It ‘was' David. What on earth was David doing… wherever this was?His eyes widened. “You're-You’re awake.”Drex's head jerked forward, eyes snapping open. When he stared at me, clear relief washed over his face. “Oh my God, Lisa.”“Drex.” I breathed out, still trying to understand what was happening. He took my hand in his. “Oh baby,” a shaky breath left him, “you're awake. How do you feel? Are you in pain? I should get the doctor.” He turned to David. “Get the doctor.”“Uh? Y-Yes. I'll go get her.” He rushed out, while I laid on that bed, mo

“Lisa!” My legs moved before I could think. All I saw was my wife, and the gun pressed to her side.I needed to save her.Heck, I had to.A loud growl left my throat as two arms gripped me tightly. “You need to calm down, sir.”“Let go of me! I order you to leave me right now!”“Let us handle this.” The cop sounded too calm for my sanity.“There's a gun pointed at her. What the hell do you mean by you'll handle it?!”“Yes, that's why you have to stay back.” He answered a little sharply. “One mistake and you may lose your wife.”The thought alone sent cold chills down my body. As though to prove it, the guy with the gun pressed it harder. “No one must come near. This gun is loaded with bullets, and I swear I won't hesitate to shoot if anyone tries any shit.” He sounded serious. A shaky breath left me, and I took a step back.Lisa looked tired. Her face was pale, and the fact her hands and feet were tied seemed to only add to the stress. Her head was down, that I had to wonder if she

    – Drex Drane –When the cops said they had retrieved the CCTV footage of what happened in Rachel's place, I'd felt hopeful. That was the first progress in a while, and maybe we'd be able to find some kind of clue. Maybe Cassie's car plate number or just anything that'll tell us where she could be.I'd hurried over to look at it with the cops, expecting to see Cassie barging into the house with a large stick. But what I saw instead made my blood turn cold.Yes, a car had stopped by the house. But it wasn't Cassie who stepped out… a masked person did. This person was about six foot four, and the strong arms told me it was a male.He didn't even walk into the house. Just stood beside his car, made a phone call then waited. One minute passed before Leo stepped out with my daughter. Every part of me froze as I watched him talk to the guy, who kept glancing at his wrist watch occasionally. After, Leo crouched in front of Imogen, said something to her and she nodded. He patted her hair, bef

His words were followed by silence.I didn't break the gaze, and neither did he. I searched his eyes, trying to find the guy who used to make me laugh. Rachel's best friend and gist partner. Imogen's ‘favorite’ uncle. The man who dressed as a turkey for Halloween because three year old Imogen had begged him to… “What changed?” A small sigh left his lips. “You.”Something about the way he said it made my chest tighten.“How long?” I asked. “How long have you been working with Cassie?” I remembered the time he came to my company after not seeing each other for a while. That was the day I found out about Cassie's pregnancy. Had they been working together even then?He slipped a hand into his pocket, then stepped back. “Not too long.”Another silence fell after the words. He looked like he wasn't sure if to continue. But then he spoke, “I came to your house last week.”My forehead creased. “You did?”“Yes, I wanted to talk to you about Rachel.”About Rachel? Why would he want to discuss
