Clarissa POV

Since my boss is a sadist and an introvert, I decided to at least do something that'll make him happy. I found out yesterday from his ID card that today is his birthday. I would've loved to be the first to wish him a happy birthday, but since I felt he would be angry if I called him on the phone, I decided to leave it until I get to the office today.

"Happy birthday, Mr. Miguel," I say to him as soon as he steps into the office, and a thin line appears between his eyebrows as he squints his eyebrows with confusion written all over him. Wait a minute! Has he forgotten that today is his birthday or what?

"I got this for you," Although I just started work here, I still feel it'll be nice to get him a gift on his birthday. I dropped by the mall this morning on my way to work where I got a beautiful necklace. Since I didn't have much to buy an expensive one, I decided to go for a cheaper one instead.

He stares at me blankly before he takes his gaze to the necklace, and he finally scoffs after a few seconds.

"How did you know today is my birthday?" He asks with that usual cold expression on his face, and I gulp down nothing. Is he mad at me?

"I saw it in your ID card yesterday," I mutter, and he slowly nods his head.

"Trash that away. I don't need it. You should focus more on work if you want to excel in this company, and stop wasting your time on unnecessary things," He says to me before he proceeds to his office, leaving me standing here like a fool.

"What the hell just happened?" I scoff unbelievably as I glance at him already sitting behind his desk. For fuck's sake, all I did was act nice and get him something, and all he did was tell me to trash it away?

"What the hell does he think of himself? This is crazy," I mumble angrily as I sit back on the chair and resume my work. Maybe I overstepped my boundary, or I didn't really do anything wrong.

Sitting here for hours and getting myself exhausted from working on the desktop is really driving me crazy, especially as I'm not in a good mood today because of what my boss did in the morning.

It's finally lunchtime, and just when I'm about to leave to have lunch at the company's canteen, the office phone suddenly starts ringing.

"Come inside," His voice sounds through the phone as soon as I answer the call, and I roll my eyes. He should thank his luck that he's my boss, and also that I have a crush on him. I mean, this wouldn't have been the case if someone else had disrespected me like this.

Taking a deep breath, I grab the necklace and slide it into my pocket before I head to his office, and seeing him sitting there looking all perfect, I can't help but wonder what is wrong with him that always makes him look so sad. On a second thought, he shouldn't lash out his frustration at me since I'm not the cause of it, right? I'm a human, and I deserve to be treated nicely even though I'm working for him.

"You asked me to come, Sir," I announce my presence since I have been standing in front of him for almost two minutes and he still hasn't said a word to me. Maybe he doesn't know that I'm here, or he's just pretending not to notice my presence, who knows?

"Have you had lunch yet?" He asks, while still having his gaze on the screen of the desktop, and his fingers moving the mouse slowly. Whatever he's doing on the computer seems to be getting all of his attention.

"Not yet, Sir," I reply to him, and he finally raises his gaze to look at me, and as his pair of blue eyes pierce at me, I feel my heart misses a beat.

"Sit!" He beckons toward the chair across from him, and I pull a puzzled look.

"Uhm... Sir, it's lunchtime. I was about to go to the canteen before you called me. Can I go have something to eat first and come back?" I ask him politely.

"The thing is, I didn't eat before I came to the office today, so I'm really famished now," I further say since he didn't answer me the first time.

"Sit down, Clarissa," He says for the second time, and I sigh briefly before I pull out the chair and sit on it.

An awkward silence assumes the atmosphere as the sound of the keyboard clicking fills the atmosphere. I wonder if this is how I'm going to sit here until lunchtime is over. I may develop an ulcer with immediate effect, no doubt about that.

The knock on the door pulls my attention, and I raise my gaze to see him still having his attention on the desktop.

"Come in," He finally ushers the person in, and the door opens as thick footsteps fill the office.

"Your order is here, Sir," Hearing the masculine voice, I raise my gaze to see a young man standing with a large tray filled with expensive-looking food that I've never tasted all my life. My mouth salivates just at the sight of them, and I wish to have a taste even if it's just a bite from them.

"Dish them out," He instructs the young man, and it only takes him five minutes to set the table in the office.

"It's ready, Sir," He bows once he's done.

"You may leave now," He replies to the man, who turns and walks out of the office afterward, not after bowing to him.

'Wait a minute! Is he going to eat all that?' I ask myself after I glance at the table filled with different food, and I turn my head to look at him again, wondering if he will be able to finish all the food by himself. I wish he would ask me to join him later.

"They are for you... Go ahead and eat all you want," He says casually, and I raise my eyebrow in shock.

"Huh?" I blink my eyes rapidly in disbelief.

"Just take this as your boss being nice to you. You won't get this treatment always, so you should seize this opportunity before I change my mind," He utters with his gaze on his phone this time.

"Thank you so much, Sir. This really means a lot to me," I squeak excitedly as I jump up from the chair. As much as I want to comport myself and act like a normal young lady, I can't help it right now. I can't think straight with all these food staring at me. I'm scared of him changing his mind and telling me not to eat them, so I better do the needful.

"Wait!" He suddenly utters just when I'm about to rush to the table, and I halt before I turn to face him.

"Has he changed his mind already?" I ask myself as I turn to face him, and he's having his hand stretch forth like he's demanding something.

"Huh?" I blink my eyes confusingly.

"The necklace... You got it for me, right? Let me have it," He demands, his eyes piercing into mine this time...

Chapter 68 Axel POV The last few days have been the worst days of my life, and I've been trying to sort everything out, but the more complicated it got. Oliver moved in to stay with me even though I didn't agree to it. She insisted she wanted us to get back together and that she was ready for me now. All the time she was away, she never had a girlfriend because she knew that I was here. Well, that was what she told me, but she wasn't expecting me to believe that, right? Even if she was saying the truth, I never asked her to wait for me. We fucking broke up, and she has no right to come back to my life, right? 'Just let me stay here, Axel. I have nowhere to go. I came here because of you, where do you expect me to go stay?' she asked me when insisted she must leave. Did I forget to mention that she was not from my Pack but from a neighboring Pack? As much as I didn't want her to stay back here, she wouldn't listen to me and insist. As I drove Charity to the cafe where o

Chapter 67 Clarissa POV It has been three days since I law saw Miguel, and it's crazy how he didn't even bother to come here to check up on me. Does he ever love me? "You asked him to stay the hell away from you, Clarissa. What the hell are you saying?" My subconscious mind reminded me, and even though I asked him to leave me alone, he could still come around and check up on me, knowing that I would miss him, right? "My boyfriend is coming to pick me up for a tour. Do you want to come with us?" Charity asked me as she walked back into the room with a white towel wrapped around her chest, and I rolled my eyes. She just finished bathing and probably going to leave very soon. "No, I'm not interested," I replied to her flatly, and she nodded her head. I guess she got tired of talking to me about Miguel, so she stopped doing it. Missing him was something I couldn't deny. I always craved to see him every damn second I thought I was going to lose my mind if I don't see her.

Chapter 66 Axel POV "Are you ok?" I ask Miguel, seeing the way he was looking all sad. I needed no one to tell me that this was probably because of his mate. Did she break up with him? I asked myself, but quickly dismissed the thoughts, recalling he told me earlier that they were going to meet. "I'm not fine, Axel. What should I do? She quit with her job and broke up with me," He sighed deeply as he reclined on the couch, and I ran my fingers through my hair. This was something I couldn't handle and didn't know how to comfort him. He was looking extremely sad like he just lost someone, and I could understand what he was feeling. Those chiefs at the Pack would frustrate life out of him if he didn't provide his mate at the appointed date. "What should I do? You know I can't let her go, right?" He said, and I nodded my head. Aside from being mates, one thing I've come to notice with the two is that he was really in love with her. The mate bond aside, Miguel was madly in l

Chapter 65Clarissa POV After hanging out together, he insisted he wanted to drop me off at home, which I didn't even tried to protest because of how scared I am. What if I bump into those people on my way? I asked myself when I wanted to protest, and I end up allowing him to drop me off."Good night," He smiles at me when he drops me off at the front of my apartment, and I roll my eyes as I turn and start walking inside. I miss his embrace, so can't he fucking hug me even if it's just for seconds? I huff angrily, and just then, he hugs me from behind, and my heart flutters. We remain like that for the next two minutes, and I can't help but want more of this. I know I miss him so much, I want to tell him how much I've missed him, and how much I want him back in my life so badly, but whenever I think about his identity, I can't help but cringe. He is not a human for goodness sake. I would always remind myself, giving me all the reasons to hold back. I mean, this is not a movie or one

Chapter 64Clarissa POV It's almost closing time, and I can't just wait to get the hell out of here, because it feels so awkward. For some reason, I find myself regretting telling him that. I know it's crazy, but I still fucking love him. Maybe I shouldn't have told him to stay miles away from me, and he is not even talking to me since morning. "Wow! Such a petty jerk!" I curse under my breath after I glance at his office and he is already getting ready to leave his office. Don't tell me he is leaving before closing time. I quickly turn my gaze away when I spot him coming out of his office."Uhm... We have an urgent meeting to attend now. You should come with me," He utters once he walks into my office, and I almost scoff, but recalling that we are officially having a boss-employee relationship, I decided to sulk it in and respect him as my boss."Yes, Sir," I reply to him and switch the desktop off before I stand up to my feet."Sir, do I need to take anything with me?" I raise my

Chapter 63Clarissa POV "You're here?" I bet he is excited, but wait! Don't tell me he was going to hug me. That's crazy."Hmm. Let's talk," I utter rudely as I head toward his office, and sit on the visitor's chair once I walk inside. I can't deny that I've really missed this place. It has just been a few days since I was last here, and I've missed it so much. What if I decided to quit? I don't think I will be able to hang on. I may lose my mind."Now, that's too pretty to be true," My subconscious mind reminds me, and I roll my eyes. My heart skips when I hear his thick footsteps in the office, but I try to remain calm."Babe...""Don't call me that," I cut him off, avoiding his eyes, and I hear him sigh."Fine! I'm sorry," He utters in a low tone that I can barely hear him. I watch as he walks over to his seat and sits on the chair."Uhm... Have you eaten before coming here? Do you want me to get you something to eat?" He asks as she clasps his fingers together, and I scoff."I'm

Chapter 62Clarissa POVI woke up quite early today and decided to bathe, since Charity has taken care of the chores as usual. I can't hide the fact that I'm excited about meeting Miguel today, but then, it still doesn't change the fact that he is not a human."You are only going there because Charity insisted," I remind myself as I look at my reflection in the mirror. I'm currently alone in the room, sinks Charity is preparing breakfast in the kitchen. I told her I wasn't hungry, but insisted that I eat before I leave the house. After I'm done getting dressed, I finally leave the room and head to the kitchen, but luckily, she is already in the dining room, dishing out the food."Perfect timing. Come here, come and have a seat. You will love the food I made," She smiles at me as she pulls out the chair for me to sit on, and I roll my eyes."What's with that now? Is there something you are not telling me?" I pull a puzzled look, but she shakes her head before she goes to stand behind m

  • His Fifth Mate   61

Chapter 61Axel POVI watch as Miguel smiles excitedly, and even though I've not asked him what's with the expression yet, I know it has to do with his mate. Are they going to settle things? Are they getting back together? Well, I have no answer to those questions.I got a call earlier while at the restaurant that my sister got involved in a fight with someone at a friend's party, and I had to rush down there to check on her. Yes, I have a little sister, although we don't live together. Jessica is my twenty years little sister who left the Pack and decided to live on her own after she turned eighteen. We only got to see each other once in a blue moon, and guess what! She's a writer. I can count how many times we've seen each for the past two years since she left the Pack. She's always busy, and the same with me. I have no idea what caused the fight between her and the girl, but from what a source heard they were fighting over a man. Over a fucking bastard!"What's with that smile?" I

Chapter 60Clarissa POV "Come on, you should call him already," Charity says for the fifth time since we got home. She is sitting on the edge of the bed after she had her bath, and I just came out of the bathroom too."I told you I will do that when I'm about to sleep," I reply to her as I take the hand drier and set to dry my hair."Come on, just do that now. I will help you dry your hair when you are done. Do you want me to massage your back for you? Where is it hurting? Is it here? Here? Or here?" She asks as she touches my shoulders, and I shake my head."Fine, just get away from me. I will call him now," I push her off lightly, and she smiles."Alright. I will help you get your phone," She utters before she walks over to the bed and picks up the phone."Here, sweetheart," She grins from ear to ear as she hands me the phone, and I roll my eyes as I snatch it from her."Do you really think it's a good idea to call him this time? It's past 11pm, you know? I can leave it till tomorr
