By the pool, Larisa and Demir enjoyed a peaceful stroll together. “My dad never really liked me,” Larisa shared softly.

Demir glanced over at her. “Why?”

“I really don’t know. Given his dislike for my mother, it’s safe to assume he felt the same about me. He says I’m dumb, like my mother.”

“But you’re also his daughter!”

“Perhaps that’s the only reason he let me stay in his house.” She paused briefly, leaning against the wall as her mind drifted back to painful memories.

Demir’s gaze was drawn to her somber expression as she looked out at the calm blue water in the swimming pool, and the words escaped her without thought. “My stepbrother tried to rape me multiple times.”

“What?” Her statement utterly shocked Demir.
