Cara wished she had been mistaken! Her next move was to slap Jessica so hard that she would have to fall to the ground and beg for mercy.

"Not only did you try to steal my husband by having sex with him behind my back, but you became pregnant for him too??" Cara raged out.

"You're pregnant? For me?" For a moment, there was a soft feature on Chris's face that made Cara's insides churn. Was he happy that his mistress--no. His wife's best friend who is his mistress was carrying his fucking child!?

"It doesn't make any sense." Cara spoke softly to herself. At first, she thought this would just be a case where everybody said they were sorry, and she and Chris could carry on with their supposedly perfect lives. But now...she feared the outcome of her two years of marriage.

She was with Chris because she loved him, even more than her best friend, Romeo. Even more than her career.

This feeling was back again and she hadn't felt like that since two years ago when she had to say goodbye to Romeo at the airport. It was a devastating moment to go through. When you've lost all hope over that situation and become a loser. There was nothing else to expect because you were already at your final destination.

With Romeo, she knew she had broken over ten years of friendship, and there was no going back. Now with Chris, she had just lost him. And worse, to Jessica.

She wasn't one to easily cry but these bitter tears began to drop down her cheeks. Chris was suddenly more caring for Jessica than he was supposed to be.

"You know what," he said with an unimaginable joy plastered on his face. "Let me fetch a cab to drop you off, Jesse. You need rest. I'll be right back, okay? Or you can come wait outside. Just--I'll be right back!"

And with that, he scurried off, his shoulders bumping into Cara's as he sped off, nearly pushing her down.

Silence filled the room, and it creeped Cara out. Jessica remained there observing Cara like she was a tough bird that had sadly just lost its feathers and was still covered in blood, unable to move.

"Why?" Was all Cara could ask.

Jessica's smile was too bright, considering her treachery. "Well, you know all about me. What do you think?"

Cara's brain worked faster than she'd anticipated, and it annoyed her more. "You're broke. You need money."

"Bingo! And I know you do enough for me, you've really been supportive. But it just gets so annoying everytime you tell me to get a job! You're always like, 'Jessica, you're still so young. You should get a job,'."

"And that's so annoying, you know? You give me money nearly everyday. You cloth me, feed me, you even got this new apartment for me last year when we've just known each other for months. You hand out money so easily that I thought, ‘she's not working. And yet she gives me money this easily. What if I put my legs in her shoes, would they fit?’"

She paused and laughed to herself. "Well would you look at that, they fit perfectly!"

Cara shook her head in disappointment. She wanted to talk but the words wouldn't just form.

"Don't take this personal, friend. I'll be sure to feed you and cloth you like you've done for me. I'm not a wicked friend after all." Jessica added, then smiled again before heading towards the door.

Cara caught up to her, gripping her arms tight. "You should remember all I used to tell you about Chris's family, his mother especially. That psycho woman who's extra protective of her son? Damn you, if they ever find out that maybe by chance that you were just lying about this pregnancy to get closer to their son. What do you think would happen to you then?"

Jessica's eyes widened and for a while, Cara saw fear in those squinting brown eyes. Then, her lips curved into what resembled a smile. "I should get going then. How about you worry about yourself first before thinking about me, hmm?"

With a satisfying smirk, she turned and walked out. There was a tingling sensation in Cara's fingers as the horror of fear dawned on her. So was that it? The end of their marriage? A marriage she thought they had just begun??

She thought hard about what to do next but cry. And a thought did form in her mind. Quickly, Cara bounced on her feet and hurried out before anyone could see her.

She dialed a number and quickly a voice picked up, "Hey big bro? Can you come pick me up?"

Chris was glad to have found a taxi, after quite a while of standing outside. "Please be careful with her." He warned the taxi driver as Jessica stepped into the car. "Go easy on her, okay? You need to be--"

Jessica managed a weak smile, clinging on to Chris's arms. "It's okay. I'll be fine, okay?" She said calmly, and it seemed to reassure Chris. "Take care of yourself. I love you." She added a pleasing charming smirk.

Chris's heart was melting as he grinned like a fool. "I love you too." He finally let go of her and shut the door, then the driver sped off.

With a deep sigh, he went back to find Cara but realized she had disappeared. "Damn it, Cara? Where did you go!" He glanced around impatiently, then walked into the midst of his friends and colleagues.

"Hey, Mathew?" He called out. To his surprise, they were packing up and leaving already. "Hey, is the party over just like that? I was thinking of dropping Cara off and then I can come back so we party till midnight."

Mathew eyed him up and down and shook his head in disbelief. He was picking up Max who was totally wasted. "Come on, guys. Let's go." He said to the rest of the gang and they were walking out.

"Guys, wait up. Why are you acting mad? What did I do wrong? By the way, have you seen Cara? She isn't inside." Chris asked.

Mathew scoffed. "Of course, she left because she's smart. Do you think she would remain in there waiting for you??"

Chris frowned. "James, could you drop Max off? Mathew and I have issues to settle-"

"--no, of course not!" Mathew thundered. They were outside now already. "I warned you to stop this your multi-dating, didn't I? But you insisted. Your wife stormed out with tears in her eyes, and you think we can party till midnight?"

Max, who was drunk, went ahead and added, "You're a bad person, Chris. Cara didn't deserve any of this."

Mathew patted his back so he wouldn't throw up.

"Is that what you all think? I'm a bad person for choosing love? Jessica is pregnant for me, okay!" Chris bragged.

"You should announce that on the stage. And put it out there on the news too." Mathew said.

"But I love Jessica, okay? And Cara. I mean, she's still my wife after all!" Chris insisted.

"You're a bad person." Mathew muttered.

This quickly made Chris so upset that he flared up. "You all can't relate! Because Gregory over there and Max, and James are still single in their early thirties, and you are a divorcee who couldn't even get his wife to love him. You both know nothing about true love!"

"None of you can relate to this happiness of being a father because you're all single dudes!" He stormed off in anger without looking back.

All through the night, Chris wondered why he couldn't get a decent sleep. He kept tossing around and mumbling Cara's name. No one close to her would pick his call, and Cara's phone was switched off! "Where the hell could you be?"

Cara stared at her friend with sympathy. She knew Abigail didn't like talking about how her husband hurt her, who would to be honest? But just to shine a brighter light into the situation, she spoke of her pain. She too could relate to losing someone she loved, after all, her husband had left her for none other than her best friend. If that wasn't pure pain then she didn't know what was. She placed her hand on Abigail's and squeezed it softly. Abigail couldn't help but to chuckle softly. “Who is comforting who?” She asked and Cara chuckled. “We're here for each other and you know that.” Cara said with a soft smile on her face. Abigail nodded her head, a gentle sad smile dangling on her lips. She continued. “So darling, I need you to trust him on this. Leave the choice to him, I know how much you love him and how much he loves you too but forgive me for saying this, if he leaves, then it was never meant to be.” Cara nodded her head, her friend was right, she knew it all along thou

  • His Greatest Regret    Doubt: A virus

“Did you hear? The hitman, your friend's ex boyfriend right? He's been sentenced to twenty years in prison.” Romeo said to Cara. He waited for a response but didn't get any. When he stared closely at her, he realised that she was there but her mind was elsewhere. He placed a hand on hers as he called her name softly. “Cara?”She flinched. “Huh? Oh… sorry. I don't– my mind was elsewhere. What were you saying?” Her brow arched as she asked him. “I was talking about your friend's ex boyfriend. He has been sentenced to twenty years.” He repeated. “Oh wow! That's… that's amazing! Now my mind can be at peace. All this while I was worried that he could be released or something.” She let out a soft breath. Romeo could tell that someone was bothering her. He took her hand in his and caressed it. “What's bothering you?” He asked in a soft and melodic tone. “What makes you think I'm bothered by something?” She asked him, her thin brow arching. He stared at her, knowing well that to him, s

  • His Greatest Regret    Thoughts of Doubt

Romeo was suddenly distorted, it wasn't that he missed her, but hearing her name had altered the proper functioning of his system. But only for a second. Cara arched her brow at him, wondering what was wrong. He shook his head in response, forcing his lips into a slight smile. “Okay,” he said in response to Andrew. “I don't see why it matters to me though.” Andrew peered out of the kitchen of his apartment and glanced at the sophisticated woman sipping from her cup of tea with the grace of a queen. “It matters dude! It f*cking matters because she's sitting in my fr*aking apartment, sipping on my fr*aking tea like a fr*aking queen!” “Dude.” Romeo said. “Sorry, I'm fr*aking out.” Andrew confessed. A low sigh drew from his lips. “What do I do man?” “Wait, how is she in your house? We hadn't even met each other when…” he paused, staring at Cara. Cara just stood there with a smile on her face, waiting for him to end the call. Noticing the pause, Andrew asked. “Is Cara with you?” “

  • His Greatest Regret    I Won't Die

Cara turned to the side with a soft grumble. She felt like she was going to throw up. Sitting up in bed, she wondered why she was feeling that way when she didn't even have alcohol. She wanted to call it morning sickness, but she wasn't sure if it usually happened at midnight sometimes too. Rubbing her weary eyes, she turned to look at Romeo. His chest rose and fell softly, a rhythm that always helped put her at ease. But she still wasn't feeling too good. She didn't want to wake him because his health mattered so much to her and he needed his rest. Managing to climb out of bed, she went into the bathroom and took a shower, hoping to calm herself. Was she hot? Was she cold? Her body was confused. “What the fuck…” she muttered as she returned to the bedroom. She couldn't even throw up. A sigh escaped her lips. “Didn't Abigail tell me these symptoms would stop by the time I'm in my second trimester?” She slid back under the blanket, managing not to wake Romeo up. Turning and tossi

  • His Greatest Regret    His cravings, her satisfaction

“I'm– I'm sorry, that sounded weird. My son is obsessed with car racing and he has one person he idolises. That's you! Your posters are everywhere in his bedroom.” Abigail explained, still feeling flustered. “Oh…! Wow that's an honor. I'd like to meet him sometime if you don't mind.” Jastrow said with a gentle smile. He reached into his pocket, took out his wallet and handed her his card. “Of course! I'll reach out to you.” She replied excitedly as she received the card. Andrew chimed in. “If your son would also like to meet the man behind the masterpiece this bigheaded human being drives then you can also reach out to me.” He said as he slid his card across the table towards her. Abigail smiled and took the card. “Of course. Thank you so much. I'm really happy today and it's not even my wedding.” Cara chuckled. “Alright lovelies,” Andrew called everyone's attention as he clanked softly against his glass with his fork. “Let's have a speech from the bride.”“Wait what? I'm not re

  • His Greatest Regret    Her Son's Bedroom

Morning soon melted into afternoon, the guests and the bride and groom all partied together, drinking expensive champagne and cakes of different flavours. Cara felt a hand tap on her shoulder and she turned around, only to be blessed with the best surprise ever. Her eyes widened as she exclaimed. “Abby! Oh my goodness! You came!” She wrapped her arms around her best friend and pulled her into a tight embrace. Abigail's soft chuckle flowed with the air as she hugged Cara back. “My darling, how could I not? It's your wedding day!” Cara was so happy to see her friend there. She smiled. “I wouldn't have come to my own wedding because I didn't even know it was happening!” She exclaimed with a childish giggle. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she pulled her friend in for one more hug. “You've been so busy! I barely get to see your beautiful face anymore. How's your son?” “I know right!” Abigail exclaimed with a roll of her eyes. “He's fine. He's part of the reason I've been so busy alt
