Rayna’s dark eyes stared up at me, shock written in them. She tried to pull away, but I grabbed her closer, my hands still wrapped around her waist. Cassian stared between us, his face totally red. Not that I cared about the emotions he felt and if he was boiling inside, but the fact that he kept crossing Rayna without restrictions made something spark inside of me. “New…” he scoffed, directing his gaze to Rayna. “You haven’t even left me for a week and you were here with another man, you were cheating, weren’t you?” “Cheating?” I raised my brows. “I don’t see any other dogs barking except you.” “How dare you call him a dog?!” His girlfriend barked, stepping forward sharply. My head cocked slightly as a smirk appeared on my lips. “Isn’t that what he is? Had a pretty wife like this and still went after scum like you, only dogs do that.” I turned to Rayna, slipping my hand off her waist to hold her wrist. “Let’s go.” “But–“ “You don’t want to?” “Tell him to sign my divorce papers.” She lifted her toes, whispering into my ears. “You can scare him off with a threat. You are good at that, right?” Her dark eyes seemed to expect a positive answer. Interesting. Just now, she didn’t want to have anything to do with a murderer, but this time, she needs his ability? What other characters of yours are hiding in this petite little body, Rayna Valecrest? “We’ll get the divorce papers. Sign it as fast as possible or do it under pressure. Choose your best poison.” I pulled her along with me as we made our way towards the lottery tickets. “Thank you.” Rayna muttered as she wrenched her hand out of my grasp. “You don’t have to hold my hand anymore.” My hand instantly felt empty, like a warm feeling disappeared from them. I gulped slightly, slowly sliding them into my pockets. “Why do you let them push you around?” “They can’t push me around.” She said sharply. “All I’m waiting for is the divorce papers–“ “You don’t want revenge? Make him feel regret?” I raised my brow, smirking slightly. I knew the feeling. The one that cracks your stomach with hate and makes you want to punch the other person right in the face. If you listened to that feeling, then you lost. You should try to bottle it up and take it out…slowly. “You are crazy.” Rayna said, turning. She took a card and scribbled her name on it. I grabbed it before she could actually throw it and folded the tip into a small crane. “What are you doing?!” She shot. “Making it easier to find.” I shrugged, throwing it into the large glass pot of hundreds of papers. “I didn’t ask for your help.” “Why are you annoyed? About the fact that I’m interfering in your life or that I said you were my girl?” Luke suddenly appeared. “Sir–“ I raised my finger slightly, cutting him off. “Rayna?” She sighed. “I hate the fact that you were there and that you are right here. I hate the fact that you are trying to help me!” “You hate the fact that I saw your misery.” I said flatly, staring at her. Her eyes sharpened with anger. “Who on earth…do you think you are?” She asked. I smirked, “Xavian Varkos. Your mate.” “Bullshit.” She snapped, walking away from me. “You’ll win the lottery.” I said, turning to stare at her back. She halted, facing me. “How do you know that?” “The truth is…I can help you.” I stepped closer to her, stopping right at her front. Her fingers tightened slowly as she stared right back at me, lasers escaping from her eyes. “What can you do?” She scoffed. I raised my fingers, pushing them out one after the other. “First, help you find the murderer. I know you would have a big break in your career if you do.” “You…” she gritted her teeth, “are the murderer.” “Evidence.” I muttered. She gulped, looking away from me. “I’ll find it.” “You are wasting your time. I would never murder someone. I have people to do it for me.” She stared at me unbelievably for a full minute, before she scoffed. “I should have known. You, Xavian, are a psychopath.” She turned, walking away from me in fury I ran my tongue over my lips. “Rayna.” Her name was the only signal I gave to her before I grabbed her arm, pulling her towards me. She gasped. It was cut short as I enveloped her lips with mine.XAVIANRayna’s dark eyes stared up at me, shock written in them. RAYNAI sighed as I flopped on the bed in Marcus’s guest room. He’d been nice to give me the room, even when he barely knew me. I pulled the duvet over my body and almost immediately, his face appeared in the darkness. My hands pushed off the duvet sharply, a gasp escaping from my lips. He’s appearing in the dark now? And I can see him? There’s something wrong. He’s definitely the murderer, that’s why I can see him. My intuition never lied. I was one of the best in the FBI before I got married to Cassian and that’s why the Director can’t let me go that way. All I had to do was find evidence against him, and get a warrant for search. He carried a dark energy around him, he can’t be trusted no matter what.“Mate.” I gulped, pulling my lower lips in.What does that even mean? And why does he call me that? My phone rang, cutting off the trail of my thoughts. I grabbed it, swiping green.“Lysandra.”“Rayna. Are you okay? Did you get a place to stay yet?” She asked immediately.“Calm do
RAYNA“W…who on earth are you?” I asked, my breath escaping in short gasps. He smirked slightly, moving the gun away with just a finger. My hand fell weakly to my side as I locked eyes with him.“This is my estate.” He muttered calmly.“That’s not what I asked–““That’s what I want to tell you for now.” He cut me off, “I thought you were lying when you said you were in the force…but it seems you weren’t bluffing.”He sounded amused. Like he’d found out I’d lied at that moment.“Well…” I muttered, running my palm against the back of my neck. Why is he speaking to me like he knew me from a long time ago?“What are you doing here?” I asked. “This is a crime scene.” He raised his brow. “You think I’m still a suspect.” He said, stepping away from me. “Someone was murdered. I came to check it out, is that wrong?”“Why would you–““Agent Valecrest.” My fellow agent called and my lips parted as I turned to look at him.“Huh, I have to go–“His eyes flickered to the agent and he glanced back
XAVIAN VARKOSI flipped the papers as I stepped into the office, slipping into my seat.“Rayna Valecrest.” I muttered under my breath. The name felt…inevitable.Thanksgiving had been tolerable because of her. That, I admitted silently.28 years old, three years married. That was irrelevant. She was..mine.Her husband, Cassian Dray.I threw the papers on the desk and looked at Luke, my personal assistant. “She said she’s a detective.” I said flatly.“She was, before she got married. Three years ago.”“Hmm, so she was lying?” Intriguing.“She went there today though, after being dropped off by her father at the bus stop. If I'm correct, I think Mrs Dray is about–”“Valecrest.” I corrected, tapping my pen on the table. “Her name is Valecrest. Not…whatever her husband claims.” “Mrs Valecrest.” I ignored him, titles were meaningless.“She's about to join the force if I’m correct.”“Getting entangled with such a woman is not advisable, Xav.” Adrian announced as he walked in.“I’ll leav
RAYNA“Is he a crazy guy?” Lysandra whispered behind me.“What do you think?” I asked, “Does it feel like he's a harmless person?”Because to me, every instinct screamed danger. Could this…be the murderer? “Yes. Rayna, I’m so scared I could wet my pants right now.” She shook behind me.I had to protect my younger sister no matter what.“Hmm,” I cleared my throat noisily, “just so you know, harassing us like this in the night can cause you issues. I’m a detective…”Well, almost. Technically. By Monday…He raised his brows one at a time.“Doing this…is going to take you to prison. At least a week.”“I haven't even touched you yet. Harassment?” He scoffed lightly,”Go ahead. Make the call.”He's not scared. Not even a little. People like him technically are the leaders of gangs in prison cells. The cells must feel like a second home to him at this point.“What do you want from us?” I asked, forcing my voice to stay steady. His lips curved in a slow amused smirk, “You.” Me?He wants to
RAYNA“So you aren’t coming for thanksgiving?” Lysandra asked me with wide eyes. She stepped away from the path as she let someone else into the elevator.“I have to come, how else would I explain things to mom and dad?” I asked, shifting my laptop so I could see her better.“But Rayna, are you sure you want to divorce Cassian? I know you know how much you loved him.” She said calmly, her eyes showing all the care in the world. She…was the only one who truly cared. “The love started diminishing the moment he changed after the wedding. It got slower, but when Cassian found out I was pregnant, he was over the moon. I thought he had come back to his right senses, but all of that ended when Ryan died. I had blamed him all that time, but if I had known that the reason for him leaving the house in the first place was Tahlia, I would never have forgiven him.”“You need to find peace. And peace is not found in holding grudges against them.” She said,That’s how Lysandra was. Ever since we we
