Annette had a shift in the convenience store today. Though her mate had cheated on her, she still had to carry on with her life.
After all, she was a Rogue and she needed the money since she wouldn't get support from any packs.
When Annette reached the gate, a car stopped in front of her and it looked familiar.
The doors opened, and two people got out of the car.
It was Kyle and Lena.
Annette halted her steps.
She was going to turn around to avoid them, but Lena called her.
"Annette."
Lena ran toward Annette from under the umbrella. She clasped Annette's hands.
"Annette, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I'm such an awful person. I'll do anything, as long as you forgive me."
Kyle dashed over and held the umbrella for Annette and Lena.
Kyle looked at Annette with guilt on his face. "Annette, I don't know what got into me yesterday. I..."
Annette looked at them standing in front of her. Her heart ached again, but this time, it was not as painful.
She thought that such plots should only exist in TV dramas.
One of them was her mate, and the other was her roommate.
She never thought that her mate would betray her. He slept with her friend, and she caught them in the act.
Annette did not respond to Lena. She looked at Kyle and said, "When I first came to the werewolf university, I had a lot of admirers. I could have rejected you, but I did not. Do you know why?"
Kyle did not speak, and his face was full of guilt.
Annette smiled and said, "Because I believe in the Moon Goddess. I believe in the mate that the Moon Goddess chose for me."
Lena stepped forward and stood in between Annette and Kyle. Lena said, "Annette, it's all my fault. I started it first. So, don't blame him, OK?"
Annette tried to remain calm. She glanced at Lena.
Annette said to Kyle, "Everyone has to pay a price to find true love. Thanks to you, I've learned my lesson. Kyle, because of you, now that I know the Moon Goddess will make mistakes too. I shouldn't have trusted my mate so blindly."
"I am sorry, Annette," Kyle kept apologizing.
Annette sighed. She shook her head and smiled, "Kyle, you don't have to apologize to me. We are even now. Because of you, I got the job I wanted. You owe me nothing. And you, Lena, since you slept with Kyle, you and I were no longer friends. He is all yours now. So, from now on, don't pretend that we are still close, because you don't deserve to be my friend anymore. Now, I need to go to work."
After Annette finished speaking, she stepped back and ran toward the curb.
She was running fast and didn't notice a black car that was taking a turn toward the university.
When she noticed the car, it was too late and she was hit by it.
She staggered back a few steps and fell to the ground.
Kyle shouted from behind, "Annette!"
He was about to rush over, when he saw Annette dragging herself to her feet, using the car as a prop.
Without a word, she limped to the car, opened the door, and got it.
Besides the driver, there was another man in the car.
She did not take a closer look and only looked out the window at Kyle. He was approaching, and shouting at the driver, "Take me to the convenience store on the second street, or I will call the police about the car accident."
The driver was a little hesitant. Meanwhile, the man sitting in the back seat said, "Take her to the place she mentioned."
The voice sounded familiar. She turned around in surprise and said, "Alpha Connor?"
Connor handed over a handkerchief and said, "You are drenched. Dry yourself first.
"Are you surprised to see me?"
Annette took the handkerchief and apologized, "Sorry for messing up your car. I'll wash your car when the rain stops."
The car stopped at the convenience store at the intersection. Annette opened the door and was about to get off.
Connor said to the driver, "Give her an umbrella."
The driver handed an umbrella to Annette.
Annette opened the umbrella. She turned to Connor and said, "Alpha Connor, thanks for helping me out."
"It takes more than paying lip service." Connor's expression was cold.
"Bye." She took a step back and limped toward the convenience store.
"Stop the car," Connor said to the driver, who had just started the engine.
He got out of the car with another umbrella. He caught up with Annette and pulled her.
Annette turned around and was surprised. "Alpha Connor?"
"Are you injured? Come with me to the pack. I'll get the doctor to check on you," Connor said.
"I'm fine, and I need to work," Annette refused.
"A job at a convenience store?" Connor glanced at the store not far from them. He said, "You can clean my home for me. I don't know how much they pay you, but I'll pay you three times more."
"I told you before that I didn't want to see you again, so no," Annette said.
"You know that I have many ways to keep you from getting any kind of job," Connor said nonchalantly.
"You can't do that to me." Annette gritted her teeth. Then she snorted, "Then I want more money."
"Are you raising the price?"
"That's right."
"Sure. As you wish. But you'd better not be late."
After Connor finished speaking, he left. Annette was late because of her conversation with Connor.
The manager of the convenience store was kind. He did not deduct money from Annette's salary, so she worked half an hour longer.
When Annette returned to the dorm of the werewolf university, she saw Lena sitting on the bed, reading a book.
Lena wasn't happy to see Annette.
Annette walked toward Lena, looked at her, and said coldly, "Lena, I think you should move out."
Annette asked Lena to move to another dorm. Her cold attitude made Lena angry."Why?" Lena stood up, looked at Annette, and said angrily, "Annette, Kyle sleeps with me, because he loves me. Do you still believe in what the teacher says about mates? We are not ancient werewolves. We aren't ancient beasts anymore, OK? You are making Kyle your slave, just because he is your mate. Kyle is a free man and compared with you, I'm more suited for him."Annette closed the book. She stood up to look at Lena with a cold and distant gaze.Annette said, "If ignoring the connection between mates and having an affair is what he wants, then you are right. I'm not the right person for him. Because I don't sleep around like him. Also, I said that I would reject him. So, only one of us can stay in this dorm.""Is that so? Then you should move out. I won't," Lena raised her head and said complacently.Annette smiled coldly, "Fine. You'd better not regret it.""So? Do you want to challenge me? Don't forget
"Connor, this young lady is..."The female werewolf asked politely, though she seemed surprised to see Annette.Connor smiled and said, "This is Annette, my brother's tutor.""Nice to meet you, Annette. I'm Alina Grace."Annette shook hands with Alina and said, "Hello, Ms. Grace."Connor sat down and said, "Please, be seated."Annette took a seat next to him.Alina tore her eyes away from Annette and looked at Connor. She said gently, "I was worried that I would disturb your work by asking you out for lunch.""No. I brought Annette together with me. You don't mind, right? After all, she and I had an appointment first."Alina shook her head and smiled, "Not at all. I'm glad to see her. I've already ordered the dishes you like. I don't know what Annette prefers. I'll get someone to bring you the menu."Annette waved her hand. "It's OK, Ms. Grace."Connor stroked Annette's head gently. He gazed at her softly and said, "We love the same food."Alina's smile froze. However, she smiled agai
Annette's face lit up with joy. She immediately ran towards him. Then she opened her arms and hugged him."Austin, when did you return to Akron?" Annette looked at Austin and asked."Alpha Lance was injured, so I came back early," Austin let go of Annette and replied with a smile.Annette did not notice a car parked by the side of the road. Connor was sitting in the car. He saw Annette and Austin holding each other through the window and frowned. To his surprise, Annette was friends with Austin Fisher, the son of Lance Fisher, Black Thorn Pack's Alpha. Also, it seemed that Annette and Austin were very close.Annette heard Austin's words, and she looked a little embarrassed."Ann, come back with me to Black Thorn Pack and visit Alpha Lance," Austin persuaded Annette."Austin, I am not a member there. I cannot step into the border of the pack without permission," Annette said coldly."I can bring you in!" Austin immediately said."No need, Austin. I know my identity," Annette refused Au
Annette said angrily, "I don't know you well enough to share secrets, so stop meddling in my business. And you promised me you'd keep it a secret.""Of course. I have never mentioned it to others. You are the person involved, aren't you?""Then what do you mean by bringing this up all the time?" Annette said, trying to hold back her anger."I'm just rebutting what you said based on what you said. You are not the only outsider living under this roof. It is not against the law. You are no different from my other employees. I will provide you with food and accommodation. It's as simple as that."After Connor finished speaking, his housekeeper walked in.Connor looked at Annette and said, "You can start working now."Annette looked at Connor's back as he left. She felt that she should be angry, but she was not.In fact, she had planned to move out of the dorm. Now that she had a temporary place to stay, she could take her time looking for suitable accommodation.Annette collected her thou
Connor glared at the driver through the rearview mirror. The driver immediately shifted his gaze away and focused on driving."What happened?"Annette and Connor sat in the back of the car. After nearly five minutes of silence, Connor finally opened his mouth."Nothing. It's just that... I find it funny watching people in fancy cars get stuck in traffic. It turns out that money can't do everything.""She is lying," Leo said to Connor.Connor felt a little dissatisfied. He asked, "Then why were you crying?""Because I'm poor. I'm not even qualified to sit in my car and complain about the traffic, since I don't have a car."Connor glanced at Annette. He knew that she was lying again. He remembered that though Annette had a driver's license, she didn't know how to drive.Connor said to the driver, "Leonard, stop the car."Leonard hurriedly pulled over."Leonard, you're off duty."Leonard looked back. He was a little worried. Before Leonard could say anything, Connor's gaze turned cold. "
Annette did not respond to Kyle. She wanted to pull her hand out of his wrist, but he held it so tightly that she could not break free."Let go.""Are you embarrassed that I saw through you? Didn't you ever think I'd find out sooner or later? My mother is the one who gave you the job."Kyle roared in pain. She looked at him, her face full of grievance and anger. He said coldly, "What is it? Why don't you say something? Annette, why did you use me?""Your mother has talked to me countless times, and the subject has always been the same. She wants me to break up with you, and I get to stay here and be a teacher by doing so."Her voice was not exactly loud, but he heard it very clearly."I have been a good student and hardworking. I believed that I was good enough to work at the university, though I knew that the woman in power did not like me and that I might be disqualified. Yet, in the face of Fiona's repeated threats, I had never thought of compromising, because I believed in myself
"You'd better not get too close to me. I am an HIV carrier," Annette said nonchalantly. When the wretched man heard Annette's words, he took a few steps back with a look of horror, and then his eyes turned shifty. He pondered for a few seconds and then looked disdainful."Give me a break. I see through you! You're lying! Even if that's true, that won't scare me away. I will sleep with you today!"To Annette's surprise, she didn't scare him off and he saw through her lie. There was a hint of panic on her face. The man saw the change in her expression, and he was even more certain that Annette was lying.Annette wanted to run away from him, but he pushed her.She almost fell. The wretched man stepped forward, pulled Annette, and said, "Bitch, you're unlucky that you met me today. You crossed the wrong person."After he finished speaking, he leaned forward and wanted to kiss Annette. She raised her hand and slapped him.He was enraged. The man raised his hand and was about to slap her ba
"Don't you think it's quiet here? It's far away from the city. Whenever I am in a bad mood, I will come and sit for a while and look at the view by the lake," Annette said. She pointed at the sky. "Look," she said.Connor looked up. The night sky was beautiful."As long as I sit here and look at the beautiful night sky, I feel that it is good to be alive and that the future will be good. Don't you think?""Not really." He raised his eyebrows. She shrugged. "You think differently from poor people like me. No wonder I'm poor."He let out a laugh, which was quite rare. She looked at him in surprise. "Alpha Connor, I didn't know you also laugh."He asked, "Is there anyone in this world who can't laugh?""But I've never seen you laugh like this before.""Do you know me well?"Annette shrugged. She found the subject a bit self-deprecating.She took a sip of coffee and looked up at the night sky. It had been a long time since she had come to enjoy such a peaceful night. The surroundings sudd
