ADVAITA VERMA

"Advi, come, have your dinner!" Ma shouted from downstairs for the 5th time in the last 10 mins.

"Coming! Just 5 mins more!" I shouted back, fastly writing the integration formulas.

And then...

The door of my room opened with a thud!

"You still have 1 month for the entrance exams. Why are you stressing yourself this much?" she asked coming near me and patting my head.

"Ma, I really want to clear the entrance exams and get into that university" I replied, pouting.

"God! What did you do with my daughter huh? For the last 2 years, she is studying like Newton. Did an apple fall on her head too?" she said, sighing dramatically looking at the ceiling.

"Ma!" I whined and she laughed pulling my cheeks.

"OK, ok, finish your work fast and come downstairs for dinner" she said and closed the door behind her.

I sighed and stretched my hands.

Now, who will tell her that I am doing all this for her future son-in-law!

That person didn't even talk to me properly in the last 2 years other than something like...

"Angel, don't talk to that boy"

"Angel, don't eat too much sweet"

"Angel, don't watch too much TV"

"Angel, don't bite your nails"

"Angel, don't breathe!"

And blah blah blah...

Stupid! Jerk! Idiot! Arrogant! Rude! Argh!

"Dad, you check" I said jerking my face away from the computer screen because I don't have the heart to see it.

My palms are sweaty because of the nervousness.

"I am sorry, beta" dad said taking off his glasses and wiping his face.

I shut my eyes tightly and tears started pooling in my eyes.

My eyes were wide as saucers and it took me a minute to absorb what happened.

Ma and dad closed their ears with their hands.

I woke up and stretched my limbs.

After making the bed, I went and stood near the window of my hostel room.

The sighed when the cool and calming morning breeze touched my face.

After standing there for a few minutes my eyes went toward the calendar.

A smile crept on my face seeing today's date, for which I am waiting for months, or maybe years.

I quickly took a shower and changed into my sweat pants and t-shirt because today is no college.

I lay on my bed and called my brother.

"What's up! Big bro!" that monkey said as soon as he picked up the call.

"Really Veer? That's how you talk to your elder brother?" I said in an unpleasant tone.

"Bade bhaiya ji, aap kaise hai?" he again said sweetly. Mocking me.

Idiot!

I just rolled my eyes and dismissed that topic.

"So, how're your studies going on?" I asked

"Currently I am enjoying, Bhai" he said and I heard some shuffling.

He is again playing video games!

"Veer..." I started

"Bhai please my 10th board exams just got over please don't start with your "DON'T ENJOY JUST DIE STUDYING" speech" he pleaded.

Really? I am not that strict.

"Anything else?" he asked after a minute of silence.

"Umm...I heard today results of  entrance exams also came" I said not trying to be obvious.

"So?" he asked.

"Umm...our neighbor's daughter also gave the exam, right?" I asked casually.

"Who?" he asked munching something.

"Umm...what's her name? I don't remember" I acted

"Geeta?" he said

"No" I replied

"Meeta?" he said

"No" I replied

"Sita?" he said

"No" I replied

He doesn't remember her name?

"Reeta?" he asked

"Arre! Advaita!" this time I shouted in irritation.

"Oh...Advaita di" he said and I felt as if he was smirking.

"Shut up! And bye!" I said ending the call

Seems like I have to call mom.

"By the way, she got into your university!" he shouted and started laughing as soon as I was going to cut the call.

I placed my hands under my head while lying on the bed.

I sighed with a smile looking at the ceiling.
