Clinton froze.

For the next five minutes, he said nothing.

It was all the answer I needed.

The brunette woman who’d been by his side in the picture he still left hung on the wall, was Samantha.

Perhaps I should let it slide, but I couldn’t numb my curiosity.

“She’s the reason you’re this way, isn’t she?”

According to Asher, Clinton had ‘lost it’ after the death of his late wife. But for the weeks I’d spent here, he’d never once mentioned her name—or talked about her. Not until now.

ALPHA ASHERRosalia was seated beside me with a fake smile plastered on her face. I really had to commend her acting skills; she’d managed to say all the right things so far. Before us were a crowd of people—pack members, all watching with dreamy looks in their eyes. They thought us the perfect couple. The woman interviewing was Kelly, the pack’s very own ‘Lady Whistledown.’ Many depended on her gossip for information.“So, how does it feel like to finally be married after all these years?” she asked,“It is a dream come true,” Rosalia quickly answered, “All I’ve ever wanted was to be with a man who loves and cherishes me, and the moon goddess has granted me my wish.”“You are one lucky lady, Luna.”“Not luck. Love,” she corrected and the crowd cooed. “So, not to pry, but the pack has been all about your case for months, and I must ask; is it true you now carry Ironclan heir?”I smirked at the question.“Oh please, you can pry as much as you want to,” Rosalia said lightly, “And yes,

But for the weeks I’d spent here, he’d never once mentioned her name—or talked about her. Not until now.“Clinton, you can talk to me about this,” I pressed. I shouldn’t care and yet, I did. If I was going to spend the rest of my life with this man, it wouldn’t hurt to know a little about who he was.“There’s nothing to talk about,” he said, rising to his feet. “I’ll get you some medication to lessen the pain—”“You’re avoiding the question,”“I don’t want to talk about my late wife, Bellatrix. Let it go.”“Why? Because wanting to know a slice of your past is asking for too much?”“I promise you, you don’t w

I never thought a day would come, when I’d say this, but, my mother was right.I should have attended those grooming classes. If I did, I’d have understood the symptoms earlier, and perhaps I could have planned for it.“You don’t need to call for Clinton,” I told Konrad, “I’m fine,” I lied, even if the evidence that I was in fact not fine was clearly written on my face.I was currently drenched in my own sweat, and writhing in pain.“You need him Bellatrix,”“You don’t understand,” I muttered, “I don’t want to force him into doing this—it’ll pass in a day or two.” I insisted. But of course, Konrad didn’t listen to that. He went ahead to dial the Alpha.“You need to come home now,” Konrad spoke into the phone’s receiver. “It’s Bellatrix. She’s in Heat.”I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. All women go through this, aside from the pain, there was no real harm or damage being done.I could survive this. Clinton made it clear that he didn’t give a damn about me, and I didn’t think my cond

Asher Lancaster was confessing his feelings to me.It felt surreal. Years ago, I’d have given anything to hear those words from him.Oh how gullible I was.“You know what I think?” I asked, “I think you missed having me sulking at your feet, you miss having me obsessed over you.” The more I spoke, the more sense it made to me. “What you missed, Asher, was the attention, not me.”A look of hurt flashed across his eyes, but it was gone just as quickly. “I don’t expect you to believe me, yet. But I’ll prove it to you.”“Do you remember the day I confessed my feelings to you before the whole pack?” I asked, “The truth was, I didn’t do it out of boldness. My sister blackmailed me into a dare. Yet, a part of me finally wanted to have a reason to tell you how I felt about you.”His jaw tightened at my words. “But you said nothing. Not that day, and not the days after that,” I said to him, “Then, one day, I woke up to realize I’d gone through days without thinking about you. Perhaps it ha

Asher stepped away from me, before taking off his hood. His hair was shorter, eyes darker, but it was him. The same man I’d known all my life.“You scared me—what the hell are you doing here?” I gasped.“I had to see you,” Had to see me?“You can’t be here—if he finds out,” I said, gesturing to the door, “This could get very messy very fast.”“Clinton is currently out of the pack,”“But there are cameras and security—”“It’s late. The cameras couldn’t have captured me. I was careful.”If Asher was discovered, Clinton would probably think we were plotting against him, and I had no doubt he’d skin us both alive. He shouldn’t be here.I ran my hands through my hair. “You have to leave; you have to go now!” But my panic was met with nothing but calm. It was infuriating. Didn’t he care about the fact that this could cause serious damage to him and his pack?“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked quietly,“Tell you what?”“I should have investigated better, I never should have taken your w

BELLATRIXThis was a mess. What had I been thinking? What demon had possessed me to kiss Clinton Sinclair?I paced my room, anxious. Would he punish me for that?If only the ground could open its mouth and swallow me whole, maybe then I wouldn’t have to face the embarrassment. He’d made it clear from day one what this marriage meant to him. And I had no problem with the fact that love was never going to be part of the bargain, in fact I’d never be able to love a man like him. Yet, last night… I’d made the first move. Perhaps it had been the fear I felt, or the fact that I’d been so vulnerable at the moment, and was desperate for any kind of comfort.I heard footsteps approaching. Clinton. I quickly sprinted for the door. Only to discover it was in fact not Clinton, but his beta Konrad.“W-why are you here?” I asked, my breaths a bit too loud. This part of the wing wasn’t exactly restricted to the beta, so my question made no sense, yet I could only hope Konrad didn’t read into my w
