Mag-log in“Can’t you even remember his face?” Audrey, my best friend asked. She was the only one I’d entrusted with the truth, and while it was a relief that I wasn’t alone in all of this, I wished she’d stop asking so many questions.
“I was drunk. I barely remember a thing.” I recounted, “Besides, what does it matter?” I asked, venting my frustration. “Even if I found him, it won’t change anything. He’s probably some low-life drunk anyway.”
Audrey slumped into the love seat beside my bed.
“I’m worried about you, Bella,” she admitted, the truth was—I was too.
“I don’t know what to do,” I admitted.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She took it out, and her eyes widened at whatever message she’d received. She jumped to her feet.
“Shoot! The ball is starting in thirty minutes.”
I’d completely forgotten about the long-anticipated Coronation ball, where Asher was going to be named Alpha of the Iron-clan pack.
“I can’t go,” I stated. A party was the very last thing I needed right now.
“What do you mean you can’t go? The whole pack will be present—you are the beta’s daughter, your absence won’t be ignored,” she said and she was right. “Come on, you don’t have to stay all through, just… make an appearance, that’s all.”

I loved balls. My favorite part of balls were the dance.
Usually, Audrey and I would pair up and dance until we could no longer feel our feet, but right now, I couldn’t even see the fun in that. From a distance, I spotted my parents approaching. Rosalia had her arms locked around my mother’s and despite myself I could help that all too familiar longing as I watched them.
Rosalia was their perfect daughter—their very own trophy, and I, was… well, not.
My mother’s scrutinizing gaze met mine. A fleeting thought ran through my mind; what if Rosalia had gone against her word to tell them the truth?
But then, her gaze zoomed past me just as quickly.I let out a breath of relief.
“Are you alright?” Audrey asked, and I nodded.
“I’m fine,” I breathed, “I just need some air—I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll be here if you need me,” she called out as I walked away.
Out on the balcony, I toned out of the party.
There was always something calming about nature, and the view of tall trees and greenery was exactly what I needed. My little moment was interrupted by footsteps.
“Audrey I—” I’d began, but cut myself off when I realized it wasn’t Audrey, but my sister, Rosalia. She was dressed in a beautiful midnight-blue dress that clung to her figure, highlighting her curves. Rosalia was undeniably beautiful. She had long blonde hair and soft green eyes—at least that was what every other person saw. I, for one, knew they were anything but soft.
“You’ve gotten fat,” she noted, “It’s either that or the dress isn’t a fit for you.”
I looked down at the milk-white dress I had on, suddenly feeling insecure in it.
“What do you want Rosalia?” I asked and she cocked her brow,
“I see you are yet to tell mom and dad the big news?” she noted out loud, “I was just wondering if you plan to do that tonight?”My chest constricted at her words,
“One week was the deal,” I gritted out quietly, not wanting to draw any form of attention.“What deal?” she asked, feigning innocence.
“Rosalia, not now. Please.”
She threw her hands up in surrender.
“I mean, I understand why you want to keep your pregnancy a secret—”
“Hush!” I cut her off, my gaze darting widely to see if anyone had overheard that.
“Why are you so afraid?”
“Someone could have heard you,” I rasped, with a hand on my chest,
“Right. It is a shameful thing—that the beta’s very own daughter didn’t know when to use a condom,” she said, “And I imagine ‘its’ going to be a bastard?”
“Rosalia stop this,” I pleaded, holding back tears,
“Alright. Whatever you say, little sister,” she dismissed with an eyeroll. “But I didn’t come here simply to taunt you. I came here because I want something more from you.”
I couldn’t help the sinking feeling in my chest. I’d known it would come to this, but I’d hoped that for once she’d be less cruel, if not for anything, then for the position I was in.“Come on, don’t look so disappointed. My request is an easy one; all I need you to do is… confess your feelings to Asher.”
“What!”
“You’ve had a crush on him for how long? Perhaps since you could stand on both your feet, I mean, it’s worth something that he knows what you feel for him, right?”
“What game are you playing at, Rosalia?”
“I’m only giving you the opportunity you’ve always wanted,” she said innocently,
“He’s getting married to you,” I stated, just in case she needed a reminder.
“But that hasn't stopped you from fantasizing about him all night, has it? I’m doing you a favour, you should be thanking me.”
My gaze drifted to the hall, and on cue, Asher had just arrived. He was dressed for the ceremony in a coat made from wolf’s hide, and loose leather pants.
His dark hair was neatly combed back, and his unusual set of grey eyes had my heart skipping a beat like it always did at the sight of him. It was easy to fall for a man like that, easy to have him fill your thoughts.I felt that familiar burn in my chest at the fact that he’d never be mine. It was stupid to ever hope he’d be, and yet that hadn’t stopped me all those years.
Rosalia, on the other hand, never shared that obsession—or at least that was what I’d thought. Sometimes, I wondered if she’d only chosen him because she knew how much I’d wanted him.“I know you want to,” she urged.
“No.” I said, tearing my gaze away from him, “I can’t do it.”
Asher was never mine and it was time I let him go.
“Then you don’t mind father discovering the truth right here, do you?” she threatened with a mischievous smile.
I still couldn’t help but wonder how she managed to deceive the whole pack into believing she was a good person. She leaned close, “Tick. Tock.” Came her minty breath.
“Fine. I’ll do it.”
“Yay!” she clapped, in mock excitement. “Finally, you’re growing some nerves. All thanks to the bastard growing in your womb.”
I woke up with a start. My breaths were ragged.I remembered now. The stranger I’d met at the club, the same one who’d abandoned me in a hotel room, was the same man I’d just met.Clinton.My shaky hands reached for my neck, and I flinched. The bruise hadn’t yet healed.I realized that I was still in the same black dress I’d worn to dinner earlier.I sat up from the bed.It all made sense now. It made sense why I thought he looked familiar; I could have sworn I’d seen those eyes before—and I had.Bare-footed, I matched out of my room, and straight into his own room. It was the last place I ever thought I’d go; and yet I needed answers, and I was going to get them.He wasn’t here. I walked deeper into his room, coming to a pause before the picture on the wall. It was a picture of Clinton, only he looked different. His eyes seemed more alive, filled with emotions, and perhaps it had something to do with the stunningly beautiful brunette woman by his side. Her smile was soft and inn
ALPHA CLINTONKonrad hadn’t lied. Bellatrix was indeed beautiful, but I’d imagine she’d be even more beautiful if her sunken cheeks were filled out, if her pale skin had some color to it, and her dull chestnut hair was given better care. Her appearance left me wondering what exactly was the living conditions she was forced to endure at Ironclan Pack?“Should I send for the healers?” Konrad questioned,“She’ll be fine, she just needs some rest.”I wiped her blood off my lips.Okay, maybe I’d gone a bit over with the marking—a little scare was all I’d intended and I’d assumed her wolf would be able to handle it, but it seemed I’d overestimated her wolf’s strength.I’ll have to be more careful. There were already enough rumours going around about me, I didn’t exactly want to have my second wife's death in the list of my ‘evil deeds’. “Agatha’s been wanting to speak with you,” my beta informed. I let out an exasperated breath.“I’ll meet up with her later.” Or never.“So, what do you th
He had dark brown eyes, flecked with gold, charcoal-brown hair and a face that seemed to have been carved to perfection. He was tall, the type that drew gazes—as if his aura alone wasn’t enough to do that.He strode into the room with the air of a man used to owning spaces.Rosalia pulled me to my feet, making it seem like she’d only been trying to help me up.I shoved away from her.“A–alpha Clinton,” My mother stammered, and for the first time in my life, I saw something in her eyes I never thought I’d ever see. Fear.“I meant no disrespect—”“And yet you threaten my wife, in my pack,” he stated,“I–I apologise," she breathed. If I wasn’t filled with so much rage, I’d have burst into laughter at the scene. “She might have been under your care her whole life,” he said, closing in, “But she’s married to me now.”“I understand, this will not repeat itself—”“For your sake, I hope not.”All along, Rosalia had been strangely quiet. The look on her face was one I recognized; she was chec
BELLATRIX.I’d believed I could do it, I’d believed I could go through the days without thinking about Audrey, but I couldn’t.More times than I could count, I’d absentmindedly reached for my phone to share updates with her, only to be reminded we weren’t exactly on talking termsAudrey and I had always been inseparable ever since we were kids. I told her everything and she never kept anything from me. She was the sister I never had and without her, I felt more alone than I’d ever been.I read through our past chats with a sad smile on my face.I missed her so much.Calling her would only make things worse, but I couldn’t help it when my hands reached for the dial button.Audrey was the one person I always felt safe around, and yet, I couldn’t help but feel nervous as the phone rang.‘You’ve reached Audrey’s voice mail, please drop a message or try again later.’ My heart slumped in my chest. I called again, and again, but they all went straight to voicemails.I returned to our chat.
ALPHA CLINTON’S POVI sat on the bar stool, twirling the glass of genever in my grip. It was a distasteful drink, yet it was the only thing I took whenever I came here.My beta’s scent hit me even before I spotted him.It always bothered me how he managed to keep his hair so immaculately in place at all times—even during fights. It was unnerving.“Alpha,” Konrad addressed with a swift bow, before taking the stool beside me.He doesn’t bother asking why I’d chosen one of the scrappiest pubs in the pack to have a drink in. By now, he’d understood I was weird like that.“You’re late,” I noted.“It’s a thirty minutes’ drive from the jewellery shop to here.”“Fifteen minutes if you ran instead,” I noted. “Where is it?”He took out the small crimson, jewel box and handed it to me. “I think she’ll like it.” I stuck the box in my pocket, only to be met with his cocked brow.“What?” “Aren’t you going to have a look at it?”“I trust you,” I said, then called the waiter over. “A glass of whis
“Why are you crying?” Esmee asked. I hadn’t even realized I was. “Did I make you sad?” I quickly wiped my tears, then walked to her.“No, of course not. It’s just…you remind me of someone.” I said, before swiftly changing the topic. “So, why were you spying on me earlier?”. “Will I get in trouble?” she questioned softly.“Not at all,” I said, with a soft smile.“Are you going to stay here forever?” she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.“Depends, would you like me to?”“Yes! Yes! Yesss!” she sang, and I couldn’t help the emotion blooming in my chest. It was my dream to be a mother—that dream had been so abruptly stolen from me three years ago, yet now, it felt like fate was giving me another chance.“Then I’ll stay.”“Yay!!!” she rejoiced. Then skipped off the bed. “Come, I’ll show all my toys,” she said, excitedly pulling me after her.***It’s been three days.Three days since I’d gotten ‘married,’ and yet, I had not a faintest idea of who my husband was.Konrad's response was
