Chapter One: Two Pink Lines

Two pink lines stared back at me.

I held onto the pregnancy test with trembling hands.

That night was supposed to be fun and nothing more. It was supposed to be the one moment I wouldn’t have to think about pleasing my insatiable parents—or the fact that the man I’d loved from a distance, Asher—the soon to be Alpha of Iron-clan pack, was getting married to my sister and I… was to be married off to a General as a reward for his loyalty. That night, I’d decided to be everything my parents believed me to be; reckless and irresponsible.

That mad urge had been what drove me to the public club house, miles away from my pack, and then right into the bed of a complete stranger.

It was supposed to be fun and nothing more, but the pregnancy test in my grip was real, and I was only realizing how doomed I was.

The door to my room was thrown open and my sister, Rosalia, stepped in, with two dresses in her hands.

“I’ll be going on a date with Asher, and I was wondering…” she trailed off. I watched her gaze take in the sight before her—the pregnancy tests in my hands and the tears trailing down my cheeks.

Maybe if I hadn’t been in so much shock, I would have at least tried to conceal the proof of my doom before her gaze landed on it. Too late.

For a moment there was silence, and then slowly, a smile spread on her lips.

“You little whore, you couldn’t even wait till you were eighteen to knock yourself up,” she taunted with glee in her voice.

I swallowed the lump in my throat as fresh tears spilled down my eyes.

“I—I didn’t mean for this to happen,” I tried explaining, “This—it was a mistake,”

But from the little I remembered of that night, this was far from a mistake; I could remember how desperately and shamelessly I’d offered myself to that stranger who hadn’t even bothered giving me his name. I’d wanted my first time to be with a man of my own choice, and I was more than willing to take anyone—even a stranger who’d abandoned me in the hotel afterward.

Reckless. Stupid.

“How could you be this thoughtless?” Rosalia spat in disgust, “After all mom and dad have done for you, this is how you repay them?”

The thought of my parents finding out about this filled me with panic.

“You can’t tell them mom and dad about this,”

“Why shouldn’t I?” she taunted on, and I knew without a doubt she was enjoying this,

“Please Rosalia—you know what they’ll do if they find out, I’m begging you,” I pleaded, “I’ll do anything you want—anything, all I need is a few weeks to find a way out of this. Please.”

She shook her head in disappointment, but I recognized that devising gaze.

“Tempting,” she muttered, “But you have nothing to offer me—”

“Wear the blue dress for the date,” I cut in, “Blue is his favourite color.”

I knew a bunch of other personal things about Asher too. Like, I knew he spent most of his night at the wild-rose field in the woods, I knew he liked his apple pies with cheddar cheese, I knew he fiddles with his collar whenever he was nervous.

“I know everything you need to be the perfect girlfriend for Asher—I could be of use to you,” I tried.

Rosalia wasn’t exactly shocked to hear that, afterall, my obsession over the soon-to-be Alpha had never truly been a secret.

“Fine,” she said finally, “You have two weeks to tell them or I will.”

“Thank you—” I began, but Rosalia was already out of the room.

He was tall, the type that drew gazes—as if his aura alone wasn’t enough to do that.He strode into the room with the air of a man used to owning spaces.Rosalia pulled me to my feet, making it seem like she’d only been trying to help me up.I shoved away from her.“A–alpha Clinton,” My mother stammered, and for the first time in my life, I saw something in her eyes I never thought I’d ever see. Fear.“I meant no disrespect—”“And yet you threaten my wife, in my pack,” he stated,“I–I apologise," she breathed. If I wasn’t filled with so much rage, I’d have burst into laughter at the scene. “She might have been under your care her whole life,” he said, closing in, “But she’s married to me now.”“I understand, this will not repeat itself—”“For your sake, I hope not.”All along, Rosalia had been strangely quiet. The look on her face was one I recognized; she was chec

BELLATRIX.I’d believed I could do it, I’d believed I could go through the days without thinking about Audrey, but I couldn’t.More times than I could count, I’d absentmindedly reached for my phone to share updates with her, only to be reminded we weren’t exactly on talking termsAudrey and I had always been inseparable ever since we were kids. ALPHA CLINTON’S POVI sat on the bar stool, twirling the glass of genever in my grip. It was a distasteful drink, yet it was the only thing I took whenever I came here.My beta’s scent hit me even before I spotted him.It always bothered me how he managed to keep his hair so immaculately in place at all times—even during fights. It was unnerving.“Alpha,” Konrad addressed with a swift bow, before taking the stool beside me.He doesn’t bother asking why I’d chosen one of the scrappiest pubs in the pack to have a drink in. By now, he’d understood I was weird like that.“You’re late,” I noted.“It’s a thirty minutes’ drive from the jewellery shop to here.”“Fifteen minutes if you ran instead,” I noted. “Where is it?”He took out the small crimson, jewel box and handed it to me. “I think she’ll like it.” I stuck the box in my pocket, only to be met with his cocked brow.“What?” “Aren’t you going to have a look at it?”“I trust you,” I said, then called the waiter over. “A glass of whis

“Why are you crying?” Esmee asked. I hadn’t even realized I was. “Did I make you sad?” I quickly wiped my tears, then walked to her.“No, of course not. It’s just…you remind me of someone.” I said, before swiftly changing the topic. “So, why were you spying on me earlier?”. “Will I get in trouble?” she questioned softly.“Not at all,” I said, with a soft smile.“Are you going to stay here forever?” she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.“Depends, would you like me to?”“Yes! Yes! Yesss!” she sang, and I couldn’t help the emotion blooming in my chest. It was my dream to be a mother—that dream had been so abruptly stolen from me three years ago, yet now, it felt like fate was giving me another chance.“Then I’ll stay.”“Yay!!!” she rejoiced. Then skipped off the bed. “Come, I’ll show all my toys,” she said, excitedly pulling me after her.***It’s been three days.Three days since I’d gotten ‘married,’ and yet, I had not a faintest idea of who my husband was.Konrad's response was

“The Alpha has a child?” I asked in surprise.Agatha’s gaze grew darker, “Oh please don’t tell me no one informed you about this?” she questioned, and when I didn’t give a response, her eyes darted to Konrad, “Really?”“I had no idea she was unaware,” he defended. She pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. “I know asking you to be a mother for a child that isn’t even yours is asking too much, but—”“No!” I cut off, taking her by surprise. I cleared my throat. “I mean, I don’t mind one bit. It’s a… pleasant surprise.”She gave me a puzzled look, but finally broke into a wide smile.“I liked you the moment I saw you,” she said, “And my gut is never wrong.” Agatha had this calmness about her that was infectious, it reminded me of Audrey. Audrey. No. I won’t think about her right now.“How old is she…Esme, I mean.”“She’s three,” Agatha answered, and I went still. Her observing gaze didn’t miss that. “Is that a problem?”My daughter would have been three years old now. I let

The wedding dress was without doubt the most expensive thing I’d ever worn, and yet I couldn’t hate it any more. My flower bouquet was of lilies—my sister’s favorite flowers, because of course my ‘parents’ had no idea what mine were.A car waited outside the packhouse. My luggage had already been loaded into the boot. The driver, a hairy, mid-aged man held open the door, and I got in.I felt the piercing gaze, burning into my side. My eyes located her.Audrey.She stared down at me from her balcony; her eyes red from crying. On her face was an emotion I’d never thought I’d see; Hatred. My chest clenched painfully. I was tempted to dash out of the car and to her. Many years before today, we’d made plans on what our wedding day would be like, and in every scenario, we were together, cheering each other on.It wasn’t supposed to be like this.If only I could tell her the truth, if only she knew that I was only doing this for her. It took everything in me to pry my eyes off her.‘I could
