Roman’s P.O.V
When I set sail two weeks ago, looking for the omega I’d spent the night with during the mating ceremony, I actually had zero hopes of finding her. Omegas, especially ones without a wolf had a very slim chance of survival in brutal werewolf packs. Anything could happen to them if their Alpha wasn’t the type that was fond of Omegas and they were subjected to the utmost cruelty. So finding Snow in the midnight pack had been nothing short of a miraculous surprise and I still couldn’t believe she was returning with me. The delicate, silent omega.People might argue I had an ulterior motive, accepting the weakness of my mate the way she was and I wouldn’t say they were entirely wrong. Why would the Lycan king accept a mute runt for his mate when he had hundreds of powerful female wolves who would actually benefit the kingdom politically and financially? Brows would be raised, I’m sure but only people in my inner circle would truly understand why my mate was important.
Contrary to everyone’s belief that I was an untouchable, powerful King, I was cursed. A blood curse that has me on the edge of death on my thirtieth birthday. As ridiculous as it sounded, only a true love’s kiss from my fated mate’s wolf can cure me. So I would do whatever it took to make sure Snow fell in love with me. I could see she already adored me and just a little more kindness would make hand her heart over to me on a platter.
Only there was one problem. Even if I was able to get her to fall in love with me without suspecting my motives, Snow’s wolf was as good as dead. Liga had tried everything he could to rip through the barriers in her psyche and this morning, he was finally able to pick her mind apart to form a mind-link with her wolf. But it turned out Snow was empty. Her wolf didn’t exist in her psyche. There were literal cobwebs in the compartment her wolf was meant to live in her chest. That shoved me into the worst kind of pickle and clearly I would have to hire the services of the best witches once we arrived in my kingdom to see if there was a way to revive her wolf.
I pinched my brows still, trying to clear my mind of the worrying thoughts as I stared out at the endless expanse of water but the metallic tang of blood did the trick.
I froze, inhaling deeply. The scent was faint, carried on the salty breeze, but it was unmistakably blood.
By the gods! Snow!
My wolf surged forward, snarling in panic. Why the fuck was my mate bleeding?I barked an order to my co-captain, shoving the wheel into his hands before bolting down the narrow hall. My vision tunneled as I sprinted, my wolf clawing at the surface, demanding I move faster. When I got to the door, I didn’t bother knocking.
I slammed my foot in it, sending wood splinters flying everywhere as the wood shattered, and the sight before me sent a wave of red-hot fury crashing through my veins.
A fucking vampire.
While it took my form, I could see beneath its camouflage. Its pale, gaunt figure loomed over snow, its mouth latched onto her neck, feeding. How the fuck did it get in here? My mate’s blood stained its lips, dripped down her fragile throat and her body was limp and her skin ashen.
The beast in me roared, and before I could even think, I was across the room. The vampire didn’t see me coming. My claws sank into its shoulder as I ripped it away from Snow, the force sending its scrawny body hurtling into the wine cabinet. Bottles shattered and wine spilled everywhere.
I wanted to kill it. Tear it apart and make it suffer for what it had done.
But Snow whimpered, and my rage faltered.
Immediately, I turned to her, my chest tight with fear as I dropped to my knees next to her. Her body was still and her skin was rapidly turned cold. Oh gods, why was her lips blue?
“No,” I growled, cradling her against me. But her head lolled lifelessly against my chest and icy terror seeped into my veins.
“Snow,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “Stay with me. Please.”
A gurgly laughter followed my trembling voice, echoing in the room. I snapped my head up as my vision blurred with rage. The vampire was slouched against the broken shelf, Snow’s blood dripping from its cracked mouth as it grinned at me.
“She tastes divine,” the voice sounded like a million phlegm was stuck in its throat as it rasped. “Too bad it’s not enough.”
Liga howled for retribution and I lunged. The vampire moved in a flash, shifting mid-stance into a skeletal frame before disappearing into thin air. My claws swiped at an empty space and I let out an earth-shattering roar that shook the cabin walls.
The door burst open after and my guards rushed in, weapons drawn. “Your majesty…” one of them said, but trailed off soon after he saw everything. They didn’t need to ask. The scent of blood and death was enough.
Ignoring them, I snapped my focus back to Snow, returning to my knees before her. Agony sliced through me as I touched her bloodied neck with trembling fingers, hoping against hope to feel a pulse.
Nothing.
Her chest didn’t rise. Her heart didn’t beat.
A raw, guttural sound echoed in the air and I realized it was coming out from my lungs as I pulled Snow’s lifeless body against mine.
She was gone.
SNOW"The King said you should get prepared, he's planning to go dress shopping with you today," Clara said as she walked into the bedroom. I was lying on the bed, still feeling dazed from what had happened yesterday. When I woke up this morning, Roman was long gone, however, I could not blame him. He had to deal with the kingdom issues, how could I expect him to stay by my side all the time? I sat up on the bed and the bedsheet slipped off me, exposing my shoulder. I quickly covered myself with it again. "He wants to go dress shopping? Can't he just have the dress delivered here the way he did last time?" I signed, a bit confused. It had been easier last time. Why did Roman want to go out suddenly.? Clara had a cheeky smile on my face and it made me feel odd. Why was she looking at me like that? Was there something on my face? "The King probably wants to spend some time with you. Isn't it better for the husband and wife to search for the dress together? It would make your
ROMANThe numbers didn't lie.Staring down at the economic records spread across my desk, I felt something unfamiliar crawl up my spine....like shock and disbelief. Even a flicker of something dangerously close to admiration. Still stunned, I lifted my gaze to Gamma Lucas, trying to process the impossible figures before me."This... How is this even possible?" My voice was even, but I knew Lucas could hear the undercurrent of my disbelief in my tone.Lucas, ever the eager soldier, grinned. "It's exactly as you see, Your Majesty. The hybrids have only been here for a few weeks, but they've managed to improve nearly every sector of the kingdom. Our economy is climbing, our productivity has doubled, and the ones who joined the army are proving to be some of the strongest we've ever had."There was unmistakable excitement in his voice, and though I would never admit it aloud, I felt it too. I had opposed Snow’s insistence that we integrate the hybrids into the wolf packs of my Kingdom, o
Author's P.O.VThe silence was deafening.Clara’s shout still echoed in the air and her face became frozen in wide-eyed terror at what she had just done, even though she was instructed by Snow to do it. In the arena, the horse lay still, its body unnaturally limp, as if it had collapsed mid-stride. Noah whom the horse had been dragging lay motionless, his chest rising and falling in weak, ragged breaths. his skin was so bruised from being dragged it almost looked as if it was already peeling. All around, stunned wolves turned toward Clara, and then their gazes shifted and landed on Snow as they all knew Snow was her mistress afterall. On the side, Roman’s eyes darkened dangerously, his entire frame taut with fury. Steal a glance at him, Snow recognized that look. It was the look of a man who would not hesitate to rip apart anyone who dared to defy him. Her brother used to wear that look anytime she begged him to not force her to service his lackeys with her mouth. But she didn’t care.
Author's P.O.VAs Roman took hold of her hand, Snow dabbed at the dark patch on her dress, gotten from when those crazy women had poured the drink on her before Roman stepped in and commanded them to be taken to the dungeon, with the napkin she'd snatched from the table, relieved that the fabric of her dress had repelled the stain. She barely had time to finish cleaning it before Roman's firm grip on her wrist guided her away from the crowded party hall and toward the vast open grounds of the arena. Her mind whirled with anticipation. This was it—the moment Roman would finally prove that hybrids were not the monsters everyone believed them to be. The whispers of hope she'd fed to the trembling hybrids in secret, the careful planning… It had to be leading to this. But as they stepped into the arena, the air felt different. Heavier. Wrong.A ripple of murmurs spread through the gathering crowd, and Snow spotted several familiar faces among the hybrids she'd convinced to come. Their eyes
SNOW"Your Majesty!" Clara was by my side in no time, and she helped me stand up. Glaring hatefully at the girls, Clara unleashed her anger on them. "How dare you do this to the Queen? Are all of you tired of living?!" She yelled, standing in front of me to protect me. My eyes were a bit teary when I saw how much Clara was defending me. I didn't feel like she was just a maid, I felt like we had developed a kind of strong friendship. "How dare a maid talk back at me? What has happened to the palace? Do they employ just about anyone?!" Merinda rolled her eyes as she said this, without a single care for her actions. I wondered just who this woman was, and where she got the guts to act like this towards me. "She is the Queen! The King's mate! The King already announced that she's the Queen and you actually dare to be disrespectful to her?" Clara said again, her voice even more firm this time. "If it wasn't because she was such a shameless slut who seduced the King, would she even
SNOW A blush spread across my face when he called me his Queen. My heart felt sweet, and I wanted to bury myself in his arms. I quickly put the bracelet away and slapped him on the shoulder playfully. I wasn't the Queen yet... I wanted to say this, but since I could not say the words, I bowed my head to hide my blush. Clara smiled at both of us, and wisely walked out, making sure to shut the door behind her. Roman hugged me tightly from the back. "Today is the happiest day of my life....finally you are going to be my Queen...." He said. I didn't say anything, I just leaned back into the hug, letting him know that I was just as happy as he was about all of this.Thinking of something, I pulled away from the hug and turned to face Roman. "You are going to keep to your word, right? You are going to let the hybrids live here from now on?" I signed, my eyes shining with excitement. Roman nodded his head,"Don't worry, today will be a day that they will never forget," he said. I f
