LOGINLyra’s POV
Her wide, shocked eyes darted between Kieran and me, her lips parted as if she wanted to say something and then, she moved.
Her hand shot out, fingers closing around my wrist with a grip that sent pain jolting up my arm. Before I could even react, she gave me a slap as I staggered backwards, holding onto my cheek with teary eyes.
“You filthy whore,” she hissed. “How dare you? How dare you try to seduce my man?”
I barely had time to steady myself before she yanked me forward, her nails digging into my wrist. My body stumbled after her as she dragged me through the doorway and down the corridors, her pace was unrelenting. My legs scrambled to keep up, the sting of her slap still burning on my cheek.
I didn’t defend myself, I couldn’t. She wouldn’t give me a listening ear.
What audacity did an omega like me have to defend herself against Lady Seraphina? Against the woman who had everything I didn’t, status, power, and attention of the Pack. She was the future Luna. Despite being older than the Alpha, everyone believed they were still a good match for the throne.
She pulled me through the winding halls, past staring servants and warriors who did nothing but watch in silence. My heart pounded harder with every step, knowing that this wouldn’t end well for me.
Then, suddenly, we were outside as we stepped into the courtyard.
Seraphina didn’t stop. She kept dragging me and with a final, vicious tug, she threw me forward.
My feet tangled, my balance lost, and I hit the ground hard. Pain shot up my palms as they scraped against the rough ground, my knees hurting from the fall. I gasped, my breath uneven as I struggled to lift myself up.
She turned on me with a look of pure disgust, standing tall and regal as she glared down at me like I was nothing more than filth beneath her feet. Of course, that was what I was.
“I caught this disgrace trying to seduce the Alpha,” she declared loudly, her voice loud across the courtyard.
Murmurs rippled through the gathered Pack members, whispers of judgment and scorn.
“Such audacity!”
“She needs to be punished.”
“She can’t be forgiven for such a crime.”
They all aired their opinions as shame clawed at my chest.
I wanted to scream, to tell them the truth that I hadn’t seduced him. That it was Kieran who had marked me, that it was his touch that claimed me, not the other way around.
But the words stuck in my throat. Because who would believe an omega over Lady Seraphina?
I swallowed hard, forcing back the sting of tears. My gaze moved around the courtyard, searching for him.
Where was Kieran? Would he come? Would he stand beside me and tell them the truth? Please moon goddess, where’s he?
He wasn’t here, no sign of him.
Elder Mordecai stepped forward, his expression cold and unreadable.
He eyed me with a look that sent a shiver down my spine. Then, he turned to the gathered Pack members and spoke with a voice of authority.
“Her actions cannot go unpunished,” he said. “She has disgraced herself, attempted to claim what is not hers. Such insolence will not be tolerated.”
More murmurs filled the courtyard as tears rolled down my eyes…
Then, his gaze returned to me, piercing.
“Until Alpha Kieran decides her fate, she is to be thrown into the prison.”
His words sent ice through my veins. The prison? My breath caught.
“Please…” I begged but it fell on deaf ears.
Two warriors stepped forward immediately, grabbing my arms, their grip was rough and tight.
I turned back toward Seraphina, her eyes were cold, filled with rage.
I was being dragged away, my feet barely able to keep up with the guards hauling me toward my punishment.
And still Kieran did not come.
“You’ve been stripped of your title, forgotten?”
The deep, commanding voice cut through the tension and I turned instinctively, my pulse quickening as Alpha Kieran strolled forward, his eyes gleaming at Mordecai.
Elder Mordecai, who had stood firm only moments ago, now had his head bowed low, his shoulders slumped in submission.
“So therefore, your orders are not valid,” Kieran added, his voice calm as he stood in front of Mordecai.
“Free her!” He ordered.
The command was absolute, and without hesitation, the guards released me. My arms dropped to my sides as they took a few steps away from me, bowing in respect to Alpha kieran.
But just as relief began to settle in me, another voice filled with rage pierced the air.
“You can’t spare her!” Lady Seraphina declared. She approached, her fury twisting her face as she strode forward. “She has committed an abomination and needs to be punished!”
I tensed, expecting Kieran to respond, to explain himself or at least acknowledge the accusation. But he didn’t. He didn’t even spare her a glance.
Instead, he took a single step forward.
Closer to me.
“She’s my omega,” he said, his voice lowering, turning possessively, dark. “Under my protection.”
The room fell silent.
His gaze swept over the gathered crowd, daring anyone to speak. No one did.
“No one has the right to punish her except me.”
The words sent a different kind of shudder through me.
I tried to keep my head down, but Lady Seraphina approached, her grip on my arm was firm, almost bruising. Her voice, sharp and desperate, rang out as she faced Alpha Kieran.
“You cannot do this! Punishment is necessary!”
I dared not look up, but I could feel the tension. Seraphina tugged at me, her fingers gripping me firmly as she began dragging me out.
Alpha Kieran’s voice cut through in a loud tone. “Enough.” The single word froze her in place. Her hand slackened on my arm. I glanced up. His eyes were cold and intimidating and it demanded obedience.
“You can't speak when I'm speaking Seraphina.”
Seraphina’s lips parted as if to argue, but no sound came. Slowly, she released me entirely. I could see how she feared him.
He took a step closer and stood in front of her. His gaze fell on her for some seconds before he shifted his gaze on me. I could see how she shot me a deadly glare. If looks could kill, I was sure I would be dropping dead right away with the way she looked at me.
Whatever fate awaited me now was inevitable and terrifying.
“Listen up everyone. No one hurts Lyra until I say so.”
Freya’s POV“Little omega…”My heart started pounding harder than before, slamming violently.“What do you want?” I demanded in a hushed but shaky voice, with no strength left in me.“You’re trying to protect her…” he murmured, earning a long pause. “But who will protect you… from what’s already inside that room?”“Who is he?” My voice came out colder than I intended, as I suddenly noticed Caelan had company with him, neglecting his question. The boy I was referring to—no, he wasn’t actually a boy, he stood a few steps behind Caelan. Just watching him, his posture was straight but relaxed, like someone who knew everything and could disappear if the need arose. His eyes landed on me once, and I noticed how sharp and observant they were before he lowered them, as if he had already measured everything about me with that single look.Caelan didn’t look bothered by my tone at all. He was even more relaxed, and I wondered why he was like that.“This,” he said calmly to me, “is Sylas.”I cro
Freya’s POV“I said I’m fine,” I repeated, softer this time. She hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded slowly. But I could see the suspicion, the questions crowding her mind, and the growing distance. I turned away before she could read more meaning into my facial expressions.“I need to handle something in the lower quarters,” I said. “I’ll be back very soon.”“Again?” she asked quietly, like the thought of it was already irritating her. Guilt stabbed through me as I tried to pretend all was well.“I won’t be long,” I said, avoiding her gaze, as that would have a way of exposing me.“Freya,” she called before I could leave.I paused in my tracks, waiting to hear what she would say.“If something is wrong…” she said softly, “you’ll tell me everything, right?”My chest started heaving painfully.“I will,” I lied just to get away from her. Then I walked out before she could ask me anything.“Ethan,” I called as I spotted him near the training grounds. He turned, completely surprised.
Freya’s POV“Why were you crying?”Lyra’s red eyes lifted to meet mine, they were swollen from a night that clearly hadn’t given her rest. She sat on the edge of her bed, fingers clenched tightly into the sheets as if they were the only thing holding her together from tearing apart.“I wasn’t crying,” she said quickly, wiping her eyes.I raised a brow, wondering if she took me for a fool. “Lyra...”“I said I wasn’t crying,” she repeated, more firmly this time, even though her voice was literally shaking.I kept quiet, thinking thoroughly about my next words. I exhaled slowly, stepping closer. “Fine. You weren’t crying,” I murmured with a smile. “You just… decided to stare at the wall all night and forget how to blink, right?”Her lips twitched slightly at my little joke, but the sadness didn’t leave her eyes.“Freya…” she whispered, “do you think I’m foolish?”The question caught me off guard, as I wasn't expecting that.“No,” I said immediately. She let out a shaky breath that she ha
Lyra’s POV“And why is that?” he asked.I held his gaze for the longest time, trying to see through him. “Because you’re hiding something from me.”“You’re beginning to imagine things.”“No,” I said quietly, sure of what I’d seen. “I’m noticing things that shouldn’t be there in the first place.”His eyes narrowed slowly for a second.“What things are you talking about?”I hesitated, contemplating how to present it. Suddenly, Freya’s earlier words echoed in my mind.“Watch. Listen. The danger you seek is in the shadows.”That made my pulse quicken.“You avoid looking at me,” I said slowly. “You’re always somewhere else when I’m with you. Always distracted. And when I speak, it’s like you’re only half there most of the time.” He didn’t respond, just kept quiet. So I stepped closer to draw his attention. “And Seraphina,” I added. The moment I said her name, it did what my entire speech couldn’t. His body went rigid, and I knew there was more to it than he was saying.“You haven’t punishe
Lyra’s POV“Why didn’t you do anything till this moment?”Kieran didn’t move or say anything immediately. It was more like he was buying time to figure out how to reply to my question without letting on that something wasn't right since he returned. He stood quietly by the window, his back to me. But the morning light aided in carving his tall frame into something very distant… and unreachable.“Lyra,” he said finally, his voice coming out very low, yet controlled. “This isn’t something you just jump into without making inquiries.”“How you really making inquiries?” I let out a small laugh—which was humourless, by the way. “And this isn’t how you treat someone you call your Luna.”That got his attention as I wanted it to. He turned slowly to face me, his eyes locking onto mine too deeply, and for a second... I saw something that made my heart leap.I was sure it wasn't anger, but something much heavier.“What exactly are you talking about?” he asked softly. That made my chest tighten
Lyra's POV“I mean… I admit there seem to be things about him you may not understand right now,” she said finally, her voice low but heavy with truths she refused to discuss. “And right now, revealing them to you especially now might change everything between us, and even with him.”“Change everything? Freya… are you in any way saying he’s…” I stopped myself, my heart pounding uncontrollably. “Are you saying he might not be as trustworthy as I always consider him to be?”She didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a brief moment as I watched her. “I can’t say that for sure. But all I can say is… you must be careful. Observe keenly from a distance. Listen. Watch for what isn’t said, for what’s in the shadows. That’s exactly where danger hides without anyone suspecting.”“Then give me the chance to be truly careful. Let me watch. Don’t keep me out of this, Freya. I can’t… I can’t stand being blind anymore.”Her eyes opened slowly, carefully study
Saana's POV “What made you think you could speak, even if you knew the truth?" I paused, and retraced my steps.I was just returning from the fields with Ethan, and I saw a door ajar. That particular room was never open during the day. A sparkle of metal in the candle light made me draw nearer,
Kieran's POVMy eyes swept over the nobles in the banquet hall. Vance was missing.Could this be an act of outright disregard for my authority? The dancing and merriment go on for a while. The excitement in Mordecai's eyes sold him out already. Others seemed oblivious of the coming storm.I return
Lyra's POV I wandered into the washing area even before it was bright enough to make out the colour of my own skin. The indigo sky made me feel comfortable in my light night clothes. The chilly air made my hair stand on edge. When I got to the lines, the cloak wasn't there. My eyes widened in horr
Ethan's POV I fell over when I heard the piercing scream coming from deep within the woods. I had focused hard on this particular wildebeest, but it ran off as I lost balance.I'm not sure Kieran heard that. Since I'd lost the game, I could check out what was wrong with her.I darted out using my
