Chapter 5

MADELYN'S POV

I frowned and stood up as well...

"How do you know that? "

He smiled a bit..

"He was my best friend after all. ... Aren't you curious about him? His legacy? His business? "

I gulped.. I knew he was an icon in business but dad never let me know about it till now.. I wanted to know about him.. I wanted to know about his ideas, take inspiration from him... I want to know why suddenly he went out of business before his death... I want to know everything about him.. But I never got to know because everyone who ever knew about him either passed away or refused to tell me about him..

"What do you know about him? "

I asked and he chuckled..

"He was my best friend... I know everything about him.. "

"Tell me about him.. Please.. "

My voice sounded more desperate than I wanted it to be.. Showing my vulnerability is the least thing I wanted to show him.. He turned to him fully this time..

"You really want to know about your grandfather? "

I nodded immediately...

"Then join the company... "

I scoffed... This must be a trick... But he shook his head as if he knew what I was thinking..

"If you join the company, every week I'll tell you about him little by little.. I just might have his diary as well... "

My hands fisted as I thought about the offer... He looked at me for some seconds before speaking again..

"Take your time to think it through but don't take too much time. You see how old I am? If I'm gone, there is no other way.. "

He walked out of the room and was escorted out by Dean.. I stood out of the room for some minutes, processing the whole conversation..

Was he telling the truth or is that a trick?

WYNE'S POV

I sat across the two males and sipped on the tea..

The East Villa of Queen's Town is seated on the heart of the city with busy roads.. Spacious enough but not big like The Northern Villa of King's town that I live in.. The whole house is just a house.. Though the family is large, the space doesn't fit in as a home..

The older man looked more docile but the young one? He bored holes on my face with his stare.. Typical Giovanni Davenport..

Ironically, I already knew this man.. Afterall we went to the same High school.. If we are talking about ambitious and competition? He is my perfect match.. He somehow ranked 1st too, making me go 2nd..

The fact that he runs the household according to him is so much him that I now know why Madelyn's face went pale that day..

Speaking of her, why the heck is she in campus on a freaking sunday?

"Wyne.. Why are you here? "

Typical Giovanni Davenport again.. He is still an 'on point' man..

I looked at him who sat across me with his crossed feet.. Still in a shirt and pant from 15 minutes ago.. He wasn't home when I walked in.. But the moment he saw me, he sat down without changing..

Xander nudged his arm cause he once was in business and Moretti title isn't something you mess with.. But one stare from Gio and he didn't budge to say anything..

"Your Sister.. "

A shadow passed his face and he looked like he was one step away from strangling me to death..

"Relax Gio.. I just want her in my company.. You see, I saw her work last week and liked it.. I offered her to join but she rejected.. "

My mouth went sour with the word reject..

Fuck! I never got rejected!

I swear his mouth twitched up a bit..

"Then get out.. why are you here ? "

Fucking asshole!

"Talking to you is meaningless cause you know shit about business.. "

His eyes narrowed at my comment.. One thing he hated was being acknowledged as stupid to not know.. It's only fair to throw insult against insult..

My eyes diverted to Xander whose expression seemed blank but underneath that polished self, he knew the twists and turns..

"I don't think I need to explain to you.. "

A moment of silence before he spoke..

"I told you she was good for nothing! Not only she went this path but now rejecting this? Better if we had married her off! “

Though he spoke quietly and meant for Gio only but I was in earshot!

My jaw tightened enough to hurt my gums.. I noticed Gio who had no expression yet his knuckles white from fisting hard..

Twisted family.. But why would I care anyway? As long as she is under me, I win and that what I want.. If I want then by hook or by crook, I'll get it.. That little attitude of her? I'll make sure it crumbles to dust..

" Once she comes back, tell her to do what he says or else.. "

Though Gio was the man of the house now, something about the tone Xander used bugged me..

Or else what? -

My thoughts cut off with the doorbell ringing.. The maid opened the door and the lady walked in-Stopped- looked Shocked then angry but then a neutral expression put on her face quickly.. Her eyes silently asking why I was here..

Madelyn....

Why would I bother answering her?

I stood up and looked at Gio and Xander who stood up too..

"It was nice meeting you both.. I may excuse myself now.. "

As I walked towars the door, I purposely slowed down while crossing her.. The smirk I held wasn't unnoticed by her..

"By Hook or By Crook, Ms Madelyn Davenport.. "
