Adam woke up shivering, the cold air in his room doing little to help him calm down. He pulled his blanket closer around himself, but the chill he felt had little to do with the weather.

Daniel’s warning kept playing in his head, along with the threat he had made against his sister.

What was I supposed to do now?

“I’m in serious trouble,” he muttered, running a hand over his face. “How did I even get involved with Daniel in the first place?”

He sat up and stared at the floor, his thoughts racin

Bianca woke up the next morning with a knot in her stomach and a schedule too full to accommodate it.She sat up slowly, pressing a hand to her forehead, and stared at the sunlight spilling across her bedroom floor. “At least he’ll be there today to help me,” she murmured, adjusting her bonnet. “What do I wear? It’s such an important day. Will cream and pink be good?”She kept talking to herself as she climbed out of bed, her voice filling the quiet room while she sifted through her wardrobe. The presentation was the first real test of her work in front of the management team. She needed to look the part. She settled on a pair of beautifully tailored, high-waisted dusty rose trousers that fell elegantly to her ankles, paired with a soft ivory blouse tucked neatly into the waistband. Over it, she wore a well-fitted sage green blazer. The combination was subtle but stylish, giving her a polished, feminine appearance that felt right for the occasion. A pair of nude pointed-toe heels and

  • His Perfect Mistake    Chapter 48 - I Have To Surprise Her.

“I think, erm… I’m thinking of going to Boston to surprise Daisy,” Ethan said, the words coming out slower than he intended, like he was still piecing them together as he spoke. “She’s been going through a lot lately.”He moved toward the couch and sat down, closing the laptop that was still open and glowing with the flight details he’d been looking at before Bianca knocked. The screen went dark, and he set it aside.Bianca stayed where she was near the door, her arms loose at her sides, watching him with an expression he couldn’t quite read.“When?” she asked. “When do you plan on going, and what about our office plans?” She paused, then added, “What are you going to tell your parents? What reason are you going to give them for going to Boston?”“I don’t really know what I need to do right now,” he admitted, his eyes drifting away from her. “But I really have to go. To be honest with you.”“It really is a good thing to go and see the woman you love after she had a hard surgery and su

He had his job to think about, and the thought of losing it made his stomach twist.“What if I get fired too?” he whispered. The question followed him for the rest of the night. No matter how hard he tried, sleep wouldn’t come. Every time he closed his eyes, he remembered Daniel’s threats and wondered what the man might do next. He felt used, trap

  • His Perfect Mistake    Chapter 46 - What's At Stake?

Daniel was already waiting when Adam pulled into the parking structure. He stood near the stairwell, hands in his pockets, jacket collar turned up against the evening chill. The lights overhead were dim and spaced too far apart, leaving patches of shadow that made everything feel smaller.Adam spotted him from the car, and for a moment, he considered reversing straight back out onto the road and driving home without saying a word. Then he remembered the phone calls, the flagged report, the quiet resignation in Daniel's voice when he said he wouldn't push anymore. He parked and stepped out."Daniel.""Adam." Daniel didn't move from where he was standing. "You took your time.""I wasn't expecting you." Adam closed the car door and walked toward him, keeping a careful distance. "What are you doing here?""Fixing something." Daniel's voice had changed. There was no warmth in it now, his steady tone made Adam's stomach tighten. "You and I need to have a conversation without the bar and the

Ethan said nothing about it.Not to Bianca, not to his father when Richard asked about the seating arrangements over dinner, not to Sophie when she teased him about the seating chart still spread across the dining table. He just nodded through the conversation, answered when he was asked something direct, and let the rest of the evening pass around him.But the word stayed. It followed him through the planning session, which he hadn't been able to finish properly because every time Bianca leaned over the chart to move a card, he caught himself looking at her a second longer than the moment required. It followed him through dinner, where he caught himself watching her laugh at something Sophie said and forgetting what he had been about to tell his father. It followed him up the stairs afterward, and it followed him into his study, where he closed the door and sat down at his desk and told himself, with all the calm he could gather, that it had been nothingHe turned it over in his mind

Daniel started with the money. He didn’t bring it up directly, of course, because that would have been too obvious. Instead, he let it sit in the space between them, mentioned casually over the first drink as though it had just occurred to him. “You know, when I covered that cheque, I never expected anything back. I want you to know that. I did it because you needed help, and that was enough for me.”Adam nodded slowly, eyes on the table. “I know.”Daniel watched him for a moment, then leaned back and tried a different angle. “I thought we were friends, Adam. I really did. I still do.”“We are friends,” Adam said quietly.“Then help me understand what’s changed.” Daniel’s voice was soft, almost wounded. “A few weeks ago, you would have trusted me with anything. Now you won’t even look at me.”Adam did look at him then, and something in his expression was steadier than Daniel had seen before. “A few weeks ago, you asked for a scheduling report.
