Chapter 7

Author: Lil Rock
With Danielle’s gentle encouragement, I slowly realized I was used to Steve’s presence . When I finally told him that I was willing to give us a try, the thirty-year-old man—one of the leading figures at the research institute—lit up like an overjoyed kid.

It was around that time that someone suddenly invested in my long-abandoned “Memory Loss Pill” project. Steve and I both knew exactly who the investor was; it was Max. Still, we chose to accept the funding and restart the research.

I teased Steve, who was cooking lunch for me, with a smile, “Are you scared?”

“Of course,” he replied before popping a grape into my mouth.

His amber eyes shimmered with warmth, and he pressed a firm yet tender kiss to my lips.

“But I trust your choices. You’re a woman of integrity. You would never want a love tainted by guilt or manipulation.”

He really did understand me. So that was what it felt like to be with someone who was truly on the same wavelength.

  • His Pill of Regret   Chapter 8

There was a flicker of desperation in Max’s eyes as he pleaded with me over and over again.“Kate, I know I messed up. I’ve sent Fawn away and cut off all her finances. She’s living like a beggar now. She can’t come between us ever again.“And me… You said I hurt you, didn't you? If you take the antidote, I’ll let you do whatever you want to me. Hit me, yell at me, or stab me if you have to.”He looked like a kite caught in a dying breeze, the antidote his last fragile string of hope. However, I just stood there, watching him quietly. My eyes were calm. There was no anger or sadness, only something close to pity.“Max,” I said. “You still think everything would’ve been fine between us if Fawn hadn’t been around, don’t you?”“Of course! We loved each other so much. If it hadn’t been for that awful woman–”“You’re wrong!”My voice cut through his delusion. A faint, bitter smile tugged at the corner of my lips.“If it wasn’t her, it would’ve been someone else. You call it manipula

The sudden, aggressive questioning and the unwanted hands on me drained the color from my face. A wave of nausea and cold dread surged through me from where he grabbed me.“Let go of me!” I struggled hard, my voice trembling from fear and effort. “I don’t know you. Please let go, right now.”“You don’t know me?”It was like my words pierced straight into the softest part of his heart. His bloodshot eyes grew even redder, filled with sorrow and disbelief.“Kate! Look at me! You’re saying you don’t recognize me? I’m Max, your husband!”He pulled out a flower-shaped ring and tried to slip it onto my finger.“This is the wedding ring I designed for you. You promised you'd never take it off. I know I messed up before. I regret it all, Kate. Please come home with me. I swear, I’ll help you remember everything. Everything we had before…”His voice cracked with desperation. His regret felt real, and his eyes brimmed with raw emotion. However, I just stared at him—cold, distant, and comp

  • His Pill of Regret   Chapter 5

Life in Historia was comforting, peaceful, and surprisingly healing. The director of the research institute I joined was none other than my former partner, Steve White. Professionally, we still worked together perfectly, and what was supposed to be a year-long project ended up producing results in just three months.Outside the lab, he was witty, kind, and effortlessly charming. He pulled me out of my usual hermit mode and filled my days with laughter and light.Whenever I got lost in my experiments and forgot to eat, he'd show up right on time with meals tailored to my taste. When I was buried in numbers and on the verge of burnout, he'd crack the perfect joke to break the tension. When Danielle flew in for a visit, Steve came with me to pick her up from the airport. On the way back to the city, she gave me a sly look and nudged me with her elbow. “Babe, spill it. Is he into you or what?”I squinted toward the front seat, eyeing the handsome, lean, and ridiculously long-legged m

“No... I refuse to believe Kate would do this to me. She loves me. She really loves me. I must find her. I will make her remember us,” Max muttered, refusing to believe what Danielle had just told him. Right in front of a room full of stunned wedding guests, he yanked the ring off Fawn’s finger and stormed off toward the exit.“Max! Where are you going?” Fawn cried out, clutching desperately at the leg of his tailored suit. “You promised you'd give me a wedding. Are you really going to let me die with regrets? She begged, “Please, just wait until the ceremony ends.”Alas, this time, the man who had always pitied her stood firm. Max pried her fingers off one by one, his tone ice-cold.“If it didn’t hurt Kate, I’d give you anything. But she’s hurting now. We all owe her an apology. From the start, the only woman I ever wanted to marry was Kate.”Then, the engine roared to life, and he floored it. He raced back to the home he once shared with me in just half the time it usually too

Even after taking back the ring, Max still texted me, reminding me to eat on time and asking if I wasn’t feeling well. However, he never came back in person.I used that time to meet up with a few close friends and have one last dinner before I left. I threw away every gift he had ever given me. Then, I scrubbed my phone and laptop clean of every trace of him.On the morning of the third day, I rolled my suitcase out the door and left without a word. While I was on the way to the airport, a wedding video from Fawn popped up on my phone. The venue looked exactly like the one I used to dream about. She was wearing the wedding gown custom-made for me and a ring on her finger engraved with my name. She held tightly onto Max’s arm as they smiled and accepted blessings from the guests.Someone in the crowd asked, confused, “Isn’t the bride supposed to be Kate? How did it turn into Fawn?”Max pulled her protectively behind him. His voice rang out loud and firm across the crowd.“Today
