TWO

AUBURON

There was a week left until this royal ball my parents were throwing in hopes of me finding my mate. I wish they understood that I didn't want to go. I didn't want to find a mate, let alone choose one. The only thing on my mind is avenging my twin, my sister, Layla. It’s been about 5 months since she’s been attacked and it's frustrating me how her body has healed, yet she hasn't woken up. It’s like she’s in a coma or something. The doctors are saying that they aren't sure why she hasn't woken up as she has brain activity and plenty of it.

I let my lycan, Carro, out and we ran to our favorite spot in the kingdom. The rock right above the waterfall. It was beautiful and extremely peaceful. Hearing the water flowing and hitting the rocks, the wind blowing in our fur, and the sun shining down on us. It’s where I come to think. My parents are sending out invitations to everyone in the lycan kingdom and every werewolf pack for this stupid ball. “I hope we find our mate,” Carro says. I get angered every time he brings up a mate. “I don't,” I replied annoyingly. “You’ll see when we find her. I know we’ll find her,” he says. He may be extremely ruthless on the battlefield, but he is truly a big teddy bear. “Carro how many times do I have to tell you that the only thing I care about is Layla waking up?!” I say angrily. He rolls his eyes as if we aren't looking through the same ones right now. “I saw that,” I say. “Good! You were supposed to, you idiot!” He says. I laugh at his attempt to hurt my feelings.

When I got back to the palace my best friend and future beta Dorian approaches me. “Hey man, your parents are going berserk because they couldn't find you.” I roll my eyes not caring. I had shut off my mind link when I left because I didn't want to be bothered. They didn’t care about my wishes not wanting to search for a mate, so I didn't care about well anything they had to say. Before I could reach my quarters, I heard my mother yell “AUBURON!” Carro whines in my head as if she’s the scariest thing walking. “You can't say she isn't scary,” Carro says. I roll my eyes and keep walking and am about to open my door when I see a dagger hit right beside my head going into my door. My eyes flash red as Carro suspects danger. I turn around to see my mother walking swiftly towards me. I take a breath and allow my dark brown eyes to come back to their color. “I missed on purpose.” She says walking up to me. “I know,” I reply, walking into my room.

“Since you couldn't be bothered approving the invitations I sent them out,” she says. “Okay,” I say sternly, hoping she would leave. “You know you could at least be a little more enthusiastic, after all this ball is for you,” she says. “I. DON'T. WANT. IT!” I yell. “How many more times do I have to say that!? I ask. “Until you understand that your father and I don't care,” she says sternly. “You will attend this ball, you will find your mate, and THEN you can ascend the throne.” she says. I roll my eyes and reply “whatever.”

She leaves my room, purposely leaving my door open and when I get up to close it, I see my future right hand standing there. “Ah, my prince. I took it things went well,” he says while grinning. “Yeah, everything went GREAT. “ I say sarcastically. “Goddess, why can't she just understand the only thing I care about is avenging Layla?!” I say defeated. I see a glimmer of sadness in his eyes before it disappears in an instant. “We have to be strong for her, my prince,” he says calmly. “You don't understand Dorian, she's my twin, I feel her in this constant state of agony. Yet her body is healed from the attack.” I say before pausing. “Are there any more clues into who was behind the attack?” I ask.

“Well no, but I find it odd that your uncle has not been seen or heard from since the attack.” My uncle? Why would he suspect my uncle? I thought to myself. “He’s probably out whoring, why would he hurt Layla? I ask. He begins to speak yet no words come out until he says “I don't know, my prince, forget I said anything.”

“Why the hell do you keep calling me  “my prince” as if we’re not friends? You have been doing that since Layla’s attack.” I eye him angrily. He shifts on his feet, looking extremely uncomfortable. “It’s just the right thing to call you,” he says. I scoff at his reply. “Since when the hell did you care about doing the right thing?!” I ask. He pauses before answering “I don’t, you’re right.” he says and laughs while trying to lighten the mood. “Something is off with him,” Carro suggests. I was about to call him out till there was a soft knock at the door. “Auburon?” The soft voice calls out to me. I roll my eyes and toss my back on the bed, angrily fighting the air. “This bitch.” Carro says. Dorian goes to open my door when I see this pig-headed girl standing in the frame, in her little skimpy outfit with her boobs hanging out. “It’s my prince, to you! How dare you call me by my first name?!” I ask angrily. “I-I’m sorry, my prince. I was just stopping by to see how you were doing,” she says. “This girl thinks I'm dumb. I know she wants me to choose her as my chosen mate.

“Fine. Now get out.” I say angrily. “WE WILL NOT CHOOSE HER,” Carro says angrily. “I know. We won't.” I reply trying to get him to calm down.

Eventually Dorian leaves and I find myself in the shower trying to calm my nerves. Until I see a flash in my eyes and I see these luscious silver curls. When I come back to my senses I look around to see nothing but my bathroom and I definitely didn't see anybody with silver curls. “I’m losing it.” I thought to myself. “Maybe it was mate,” Carro says. I roll my eyes. “Shut up, we’re not finding a mate, and if we do, I’ll reject her,” I say proudly. “You know what’ll happen if you do,” he says to counter my argument. “Fine, I won't reject her, but I will never love her,” I reply. I wince at those words. I used to want a mate, but now all I care about is avenging Layla. “Your need for revenge will be the death of us,” he says. I can feel his sadness.
