Sophia was at Liam’s the next morning, just like she promised.

Liam was gone before the sun had a chance to warm the windows. Jay texted at dawn, saying he had to rush to the studio and adding, “Keep an eye on Sophia for me. I’d like to avoid her committing a crime before lunch.”

I thought he was joking, but it didn’t take long to learn he wasn’t.

Sophia had Cassie cornered in the living room before the morning had even settled, pacing with the sharp intent of someone building a case.

“First, let’s establish something,” she said. “I live here too. Always have. So, If you think your little stay is going to be an easy ride, think again. That means we’ll be under the same roof, Cassie, how thrilling for both of us.”

Cassie’s smile twitched, just enough to betray that the thought didn’t thrill her in the slightest, but she masked it quickly.

Sophia continued, her voice lethal. “We could live peacefully… or not. That depends entirely on how well you follow my rules. Number one– if I ever s

Cassie’s answer was a shrug, the kind of slow, lazy movement meant to say you’re beneath my energy.“Think whatever you want,” she said, eyes fixed on her phone.I didn’t waste a single word on her. My silence was the sharpest reply I could give. I took my phone from the counter, fingers curling around it like I was holding back more than just anger, and walked out. The need to get space from her was louder than the need to win.---Back in the studio, I buried myself in edits, schedules, tomorrow’s prep, anything that could keep my brain from looping. It didn’t work.Who was the man walking out of the house? What was Cassie’s angle this time? And the real question– if I told Liam, would it matter?By the time I shut down for the night, I had exactly zero answers and a headache big enough to warrant a week in bed. Instead, I drove to the one place that still made me feel like the world wasn’t made of smoke and mirrors.---My Mom opened the door and immediately wrapped me into her arm

Cassie wanted to talk, and I convinced Liam to let her. That’s how we ended up in his living room – Liam and me on one sofa, Sophia in the armchair, Jay on the other side of the coffee table. Cassie sits opposite us like she’s been invited to a press conference. She kept going, voice sugary but steady, about her doctor’s instructions, how the pregnancy was “high risk” and needed constant monitoring, and how her family wasn’t in the States to help. The only movement in the room is Sophia, crossing and uncrossing her legs, throwing daggers with her eyes.“Keep this short,” Sophia cut in. “Get to the point.”Cassie’s mouth curves like she’s been waiting for the line. “I need a place to stay.”Liam’s voice is calm, but it cuts clean. “Fine. I’ll get you a place. You stay there while this gets handled.”“That would be pointless,” she said, tilting her head. “There’d be no one there with me.”“I’ll make sure you have help,” Liam said, his tone leaving no room for argument. “A nurse will han

Some aches don’t announce themselves. They settle quietly, deep in your bones, and wait for morning to make them real. That’s what waking up felt like. The silence in the room was thick, almost peaceful, if you didn’t know better.Liam was still asleep beside me, arm loosely around my waist. But I slipped out of bed without waking him. I didn’t want to talk. Not yet.I just needed something normal to do.So I went to the kitchen.I pulled eggs from the fridge, started scrambling, made toast, and pressed my finger down too long on the blender button, just for the noise.Maybe if I stayed busy, the ache wouldn’t creep in.But it did.I didn’t hear Liam come in. I only felt his presence behind me, quiet but heavy.“Hey,” he said softly.I turned around. He was already dressed for work, his face lined with the kind of exhaustion that comes from knowing the day is already lost before it begins.“Making breakfast?” he asked.“Trying to stay sane.”He stepped forward, pulled me into his arms

For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. Not because I believed her.Not even because I didn’t.But because those words hit the one place I’d spent weeks trying to stop bleeding.Liam's hand stayed wrapped around mine under the table, firm like he was anchoring me to the ground, holding me steady. But I didn’t look at him.My eyes were locked on her.Cassie–poised, serpent-smiling, one manicured hand resting on her stomach like she was cradling power, not life.“You’re lying,” Liam said, his voice cold and flat. “And the only thing more pathetic than this stunt is thinking I’d fall for it.”Cassie arched her brow. “Are you sure about that?”“You think I wouldn’t know if I touched you?”“You were too drunk to remember anything. Now,” she smiled wider, “there’s a piece of you growing inside me, and it’s not going away.”My throat burned, but I kept my voice steady. “Do you have proof?”She blinked, surprised I was the one who asked.“Would you like a copy of the ultrasound? I could get one pri

I didn’t answer Liam right away.My heart was racing, palms cold, throat tight. Cassie in his bed. Naked. It clung to my thoughts like smoke I couldn’t blow away. But when I looked into Liam’s eyes, I didn’t see lies. I saw torment. Regret. A man who would rather bleed than break what we had.“I believe you,” I finally said, softly. “Because love without trust isn’t love at all. And I love you, Liam. So yes, I believe you.”The breath he released was jagged and loud, like it had been strangled in his chest for too long. “You just made me the happiest man alive.”He held me like I was the only thing keeping him upright. “I swear to you, Emily. You’ll never regret trusting me. Not for one second.”And I believed him.---Over the next few weeks, we found our rhythm again. Not the curated kind people post on Instagram, with matching pajamas or soft-filtered sunsets. Ours was messy, warm, alive. Tangled sheets and sleepy mornings. Burnt pancakes and laughter in the kitchen. Liam crashin
