****Megan’s POV****

The waiting room felt colder than it should. Maybe it was just me, sitting there with my head bent toward the floor, staring at the same half-cracked tile I’d been looking at for the last ten minutes. My mind was loud, but everything around me felt too quiet. I didn’t even hear Kai walk up until his shadow fell over me.

“Are you okay?” he asked, voice low but firm, like he already knew the answer wasn’t yes.

I lifted my head a little. He looked tall from down here — tall and too calm for the storm rolling in my chest.

“I’m okay,” I whispered, even though my breath shook at the end.

He raised a brow. “You don’t sound okay. I’ll go get you water or something.”

I lifted my hand to stop him, but he was already walking away with those long, purposeful strides of his. I didn’t have the energy to call him back. Moments later, I heard his footsteps again. He crouched right in front of me, close enough that I could see the faint crease between his brows.

He opened the bottl

****Kai’s POV****Tonight was supposed to be the perfect-imperfect night. The night I finally told Megan everything. My feelings for her.And the secret behind how we met.The whole truth. That our meeting that night — the same night Joe betrayed her — wasn’t a coincidence. It was calculated. Designed.Planned by me.I had been connected to Joe’s father, Don Julian, long before she ever came into my life. I had done unspeakable things under that man’s command — things I still saw every time I closed my eyes. And after everything I gave, every drop of loyalty, he betrayed me.That betrayal burned deep enough to twist everything inside me.So I came for her.Not because of fate. Not because of love. But because I wanted to use her — the broken, desperate woman Joe had left behind. The woman whose heart I knew was bleeding in ways I could weaponize.I was going to train her.Shape her.Fuel her hatred toward Joe and his father until it became something sharp enough to pierce their empire

****Megan's POV****The moment Miranda’s eyes met mine, the entire room felt like it had interchanged. She stood there at the door, chin raised, arms folded, acting like she wasn’t the reason our stepmother was lying unconscious.I didn’t want to give her a scene here. Not in front of nurses. Not in front of our mother who just survived an emergency. So I released a slow breath and said quietly,“Let’s talk outside.”I didn’t wait for her reply. I simply walked out of the ward. The hallway were busy. People walked past. I didn’t care. I just stood there, arms crossed, waiting for her like I’ve waited for storms I already knew were coming. She finally stepped out, cat walking like she was walking on a runway instead of a hospital floor.“Good,” Miranda said, shutting the door behind her. “Because I really don’t want to say certain things in front of that woman.”I clenched my jaw.“That ‘woman’ is your mother too.”Miranda scoffed. “Mother? Please. She’s the same person who always favo

****Megan’s POV****The room was quiet when I walked in. Machines made tiny beeping sounds every few seconds. And there she was… the woman I remembered always keeping perfect hair and perfect makeup… now lying there with her gray strands scattered across the pillow, her skin pale, her lips chapped, her hands trembling slightly even in sleep. She looked… small.Fragile.Human.It startled me how quickly old memories tried to drag me back—memories I spent years trying to bury. Her looking away while my father yelled. Her ignoring me when Miranda shoved me aside. Her silence when I cried and begged not to be treated so poorly…I swallowed hard and sat beside her, not trusting my voice, not trusting my emotions. I didn’t even know why I came. Maybe curiosity. Maybe anger. Maybe that tiny foolish hope that she would explain everything… though I knew nothing could undo the pain she helped create.Time blurred. I didn’t know how long I sat there until the doctor came in, flipping through pap

****Megan’s POV****The wind outside the office was blowing profusely when I stepped out, I clutched my bag like it could shield me from exhaustion. My day was long, my brain fried, and all I wanted was my bed.I needed to get off work so badly, today was extremely hectic and with Joe showing up? It made it even more stressful.Man spent hours choosing an outfit and finally ended up with none, he pretended to look disappointed even though he knew I know he was just dragging this whole session thingy to visit the store more often.Yeah, I had walked right into his said trap but not for long.I made my way towards my car, half sleepy, half awake. Then I froze.Kai was standing by my car.Leaning against the hood arms crossed, eyes on me. He looked exactly the same as the last time I saw him at the park—calm, intimidating, annoyingly handsome—except this time his presence made my stomach flip in a way I wasn’t prepared for.He hadn’t called. He hadn’t texted. Not even a “Did you get home

  • His Regret: Rise Of The Boss Lady    Chapter 21 — A moment of truth

**** Joe’s POV****I stormed out of Raven Vogue with my jaw tight, my chest still heaving from embarrassment I refused to accept. The moment the doors shut behind me, I dragged a palm through my hair and just stood there for a second, staring into nothing. I couldn’t believe what had just played out in there. I expected a slap. Shouting. Maybe her usual cold glare. But being thrown to the ground like some untrained rookie? Never in my damn life.My phone vibrated in my pocket. I didn’t check it. Probably Carl asking if everything went smoothly. Smoothly my foot.I walked straight to the car where Carl waited behind the wheel, arms crossed and sunglasses on even though the sun was hiding behind clouds. The moment he saw me, he smirked. “So…? Did she fall into your arms and cry tears of joy? Did she ask you to take her back? Did the universe shift?”I opened the car door and dropped into the backseat with a wince I tried to hide. “Drive.”Carl’s smirk vanished. “Why are you sitting like
