LOGIN***Megan's POV***
As usual, I slipped into my disguise for mafia-related business: a black catsuit and thigh-high stiletto boots, pulling on my black veil. I descended the mini stairs in the back of the children’s room—stairs no one would ever suspect led anywhere serious. I punched an invisible button on the high end of the wall, and an underground route opened. Below, an underground garage was filled with all types of bikes from around the world. I stepped into my favorite one, which I called the Ravenclaw, sleek and black like a predator at night, just like me. I zoomed off in one go, the engine roaring behind me. An hour later, I arrived at the warehouse, and of course, Kai’s bike, Viper, was already parked in the garage, indicating he was inside. I pushed open the large warehouse doors and almost caught Kai’s men off guard. The ones on alert had already pulled out their pistols, pointing them at the open door. I stepped in proudly, and they lowered their weapons when they realized it was just me. “Hold fire!” Anton, Kai’s right-hand man, hissed as he stepped down from the stairs. “Welcome, Lady M.” I walked into the building, glaring at each man as they bowed their heads. They feared and revered me, and I, in turn, enjoyed their respect, even if I never showed it. “Next time,” I glared, “think before you aim. I’d hate to stain my boots with your brain matter.” “Apologies, boss.” “No disrespect,” the men muttered. Anton stepped forward, bowing his head slightly. “Forgive the boys, Lady M. We weren’t expecting company.” “Apology accepted. Back to work,” I motioned to the men, then turned to Anton. “Where’s the boss?” “In his office.” I nodded and climbed the stairs that led to Kai’s office while the men returned to their tasks, Anton barking orders at them. After ringing Kai’s doorbell once, the doors opened immediately. I walked in, my eyes landing on the lady who was sitting with her back to the door. My mind raced through many reasons why Kai would bring the caretaker into the warehouse, but I trusted his judgment. He rose to his feet when he saw me. “M, you arrived just in time. Meet the caretaker.” The lady stood and turned to face me, and my eyes widened under the veil in shock. The caretaker was none other than Katie, my helper back at Joe’s place. I held back a gasp and smirked at Kai. “You always leave me astonished each time, boss.” “It’s a trademark,” he smirked back. “Katie, meet your new boss.” “Hi, lady…” I sighed and took off my veil. “Hi, Katie.” “Ms!” She sprinted toward me but then held back. I smirked and opened my arms wide; she ran into my embrace, then stepped back, staring at me in amazement. “I can’t believe this, Ms. Meg.” “That’s right.” “You look so… different, and gorgeous yet so… fierce,” she whispered. “I’m so happy you’re alive.” “Why, did Joe publish that I was dead?” She shook her head, closing her mouth in shock. “Wow.” “Come on, let’s sit and catch up; it’s been so long.” My eyes felt teary, but I tried my best to hold back the tears. Kai excused himself like a gentleman, hinting that he would be back in an hour to discuss business. ****** An hour later, Katie and I were laughing and drinking wine when Kai finally walked in. “Time for business, ladies,” he said, addressing us as he took a seat and pulled out some documents. “So, Katie, you’ll be starting a new job as Ethan and Cole’s caretaker, and you’ll need to move in with Meg here at her place. You must remain discreet about this job; no one must know you’re working with her.” Katie mimed locking her lips. “My lips are sealed.” “They have to be, or you know what my men can do,” Kai chuckled, but I knew that wasn’t a joke. Kai didn’t play around when it came to Ethan and Cole. Even though we trusted Katie, he wouldn’t spare her if she betrayed us. I shook my head at him, signaling that he shouldn’t joke like that. “So, Katie, any questions?” “Yes… when can I see my little ones?” We both chuckled. “You can start work now if you’re ready, or tomorrow, and then you can meet them.” “I’m ready; my things are packed.” I smiled and turned to Kai. “Can you have Anton prepare us a ride? I’ll drive.” He nodded and punched his keys on the desktop in front of him. When I rode my bike here, it was with the intention of rejecting whoever Kai had prepared. No matter how much I trusted him, I couldn’t allow a stranger who knew about both my private and mafia life to take care of my kids. That would be putting them in danger. But with Katie, I felt assured and safe for the first time in a long while. I finally had someone from my past who shared my experiences and truly understood what I had gone through. It felt surreal to see her again; I had searched everywhere for her as soon as I landed, and somehow, Kai found her right away. While catching up, she admitted she had left weeks after I did. Joe had surprisingly searched all over for me. He had turned into an even fiercer beast, becoming more reckless than ever. Then he engaged Miranda, only to cheat on her like the jerk he had always been. It was no surprise he did that to her; after all, she was one of his many women. What annoyed me was that he used my departure as an excuse to become even more reckless, hurting those around him. I hated him even more. As Katie and I made our way back home through a normal route, I couldn’t help but wonder why he suddenly cared. I guess the saying goes, “You never know the value of what you had until you lose it,” whatever that means. What Katie didn’t know was that the kids were his. I couldn’t let anyone know about their true paternity— not now, nor ever. I never wanted Joe or anyone related to him in their lives. I was going to protect them at any cost.Megan's POVMy eyes kept darting from the door to the clock and back to the door as I and Kai waited patiently in Victoria's office, his hands resting over mine.Suddenly the doorknob twisted open revealing Victoria in all her glory, elegant as always in a fitted black suit and red heels that clicked sharply against the floor. But my chest was too heavy to admire her properly.“Welcome, Ms Megan and—?”“Kai Slayer,” Kai stood up almost immediately extending his hand for a handshake but Victoria only paused for a second, her eyes moving from him to me.“We're together,” I explained softly.A knowing look crossed her face before she finally took his handshake.“Welcome Mr Kai, please have a seat.”Kai nodded calmly and sat back down beside me while Victoria settled into her chair opposite us.“I noted your message from my secretary Mr Kai,” she began calmly, opening a file on her desk, “and I deeply understand the intensity of the situation.”I swallowed hard. The intensity. That was on
Joe's POV“For the first time in my life, Old man, I'm grateful for your interference.”I paced the circumference of Don Julian's study as he sat there in his chair sipping whiskey, ignoring me and glancing through some paper works.I had the DNA papers in my hand, still staring at the figures like a proud gold miner who had finally found gold. It had been impossible to take my eyes off them. The thought of having Megan back in my arms felt like a dream come true. Her and the boys.My boys. The boys who were my exact replica. The Julian bloodline finally restored. For the first time in weeks, I felt alive again.No.More than alive.Victorious.I chuckled to myself remembering the look on Megan’s face earlier that night.Shock.Fear.Panic.And Kai—That bastard looked like someone had pulled the ground from beneath his feet.“You needed to see the look on Megan's face when she saw me in her estate,” I said with a grin. “Holding up the DNA result and that Kai… he knew his position had
Kai’s POVThe first blow landed hard against the fifth man’s stomach.A sick grunt escaped his lips as he doubled over slightly, but he straightened almost immediately, refusing to show weakness in front of the others.Too bad for him, I wasn’t in the mood to admire loyalty.I was furious.Absolutely furious. These men were supposed to be the best. Personally trained. Personally selected. Men trusted with Megan’s safety and the children’s lives. And yet Joe had walked right into the estate like he owned the damn place.“You let—” I drove another punch into the sixth man’s gut, my voice thunderous. “An intruder into the estate because of some stupid emergency call?”The man staggered back, clutching his stomach.“We’re terribly sorry, boss,” the first guard muttered shakily.I turned toward him sharply.“Sorry?” I grabbed the front of his shirt violently, dragging him closer. “Would you still be sorry if something happened to Megan? To Ethan and Cole?”My voice echoed through the train
Megan’s POVEverything was ruined.Every single fragile layer of protection I’d built over six years—gone in one driveway confrontation. The secret of the twins’ paternity, the ironclad security I’d trusted to keep the Julians world at bay, the quiet life I’d carved out with Kai and the boys—it all felt paper-thin now, torn open by Joe’s cold smile and that damning piece of paper.I stood frozen, watching Joe’s car reverse and speed past. He slowed deliberately as he passed the SUV, letting the tinted windows frame the twins’ small, curious faces pressed against the glass. Then—boom—he accelerated, tires biting asphalt like a final taunt, and disappeared around the bend.My knees threatened to collapse.I turned to Kai, panting, trying not to spiral into full panic in front of the boys. “What do we do? Kai… it’s ruined.”“Megan.” His voice, anchor I desperately needed. “Megan, breathe. Get in the car. Take the boys inside, let them freshen up and rest. It’s been a long drive.”I shook
Joe's POV I watched life drain out of Megan's face as she stepped out of the SUV. Shocked to see me right at her gate.“What are you doing here, Joe?” She asked, hands trembling.I smirked walking closer but of course that unpaid guard of hers, Kai stepped in.“Megan,” I snarled, sniffing in excitement. “You’ve been hard to reach. I thought we should talk. Face to face. About the boys.”She trembled, clinging to her sundress as it swung with the wind.“They’re not your concern.” she snarled, eyes blazing, almost piercing my skin. “Aren’t they?”My eyes flicked to Kai, then back to Megan. I was enjoying this, the cold stare on her face and Kai's glare like he was about to explode.I chuckled though a low one as a smile etched on the corner of my lips. “Interesting company you keep these days. But then again… you always did like collecting strays.”Kai didn’t flinch. “Leave, Joe. Now.”This bastard, he still thought he was in control… coming in-between us like he was part of this.“I
Joe’s POVI was a hundred push-ups in when my phone started buzzing like it had a personal vendetta against my peace. Sweat dripped from my brow, stinging my eyes, but I didn’t stop until the vibration became impossible to ignore. One hundred and one. One hundred and two. Then the screen lit up again—relentless.I pushed off the mat, chest heaving, mind still tangled in the same loop it had been running for days: Megan laughing in the front seat of that SUV, Kai’s hand on the wheel like he owned the road, and those two little boys in the back—my boys—oblivious to the storm I was about to unleash. The caller ID flashed: Old Man 🐍I wiped my face with the hem of my shirt and answered. “What’s up, old man?”Don Julian’s voice came through like gravel dragged over concrete.“Come to my study. Now.”The line went dead before I could respond.I stared at the phone for a second, half-expecting it to bite me. Puzzled didn’t even cover it. I tossed the towel aside, grabbed a fresh shirt from
Joe’s POV“Cole!”The other twin—Ethan, I realized—grabbed his brother’s arm firmly, his small fingers tightening with surprising authority. “We’re not supposed to tell strangers.”The word struck harder than I expected. Strangers. It hit me with the weight of someone throwing stones at glass I did
Megan’s POVThe traffic finally cleared, and I was able to turn into the school premises, my foot easing off the brake as I scanned the crowded space ahead.Parents were everywhere.Cars lined both sides of the road, doors opening and closing nonstop. Children ran ahead, laughing loudly, school bag
Megan’s POV“Woahhh!”Cole’s voice bounced off the high ceiling the moment we stepped inside Kai’s mansion, the sound echoing back at him like the house itself was answering.Ethan stopped right behind him, one foot still hovering mid-step, his mouth parting slowly as his eyes traveled upward. He d
Megan’s POVI placed the torn copy of the divorce papers on Victoria Hale’s desk, smoothing them out even though they were already ruined. The paper was creased, ripped down the middle, edges jagged like Joe had enjoyed tearing them apart. I stared at the mess for a second before sighing and leanin
