Chapter 2

Mia’s POV

We are all seated around the conference table chatting away, when Hunter enters without Sandra. Most mated Alpha’s have their Luna’s in the meeting with them.

Mates are supposed to be seen as equals and the Alpha and Luna of the pack rule it together. “Alphas and Lunas, please accept my Luna’s apologies for her absence. She has come down with a severe migraine, and had to lay down for a bit. Let’s get the meeting started” he said, and took his seat. 

I scoff, and I see Luna Ronnie roll her eyes from across the table. She is Luna to alpha Bill from Crescent Moon, who is my dad’s oldest friend. It’s obvious no one in the room cares much for Sandra.

“Alpha Roman, the floor is yours since you called this meeting” Hunter says to the alpha from the Winter Forest pack.

“I called this meeting because over the past month we have encountered many rogue wolves at the border of our territory. We captured a few, and they had quite an interesting story to tell,” he says. 

I glance Hunters way, and he is already looking at me. I looked away immediately and answered, “Please enlighten us Alpha Roman. What are these rogues up to? We, too, have encountered them. They always seem to be in groups. Rogues don’t normally work together. I have also sent a few of my warriors to investigate. Any information you have is welcome.” 

“Alpha Mia, before I start, may I say that you look absolutely ravishing as always” he says with lustful eyes and licks his lips. I internally rolled my eyes. That man is such a pervert. His Luna is right there, and he is trying to make the moves on me as always. She literally rolls her eyes and gives me a weak smile.

I know their story and I feel really bad for her. She is his chosen mate and her father forced her to marry him to strengthen his standing in the pack. She is my age, and we get along very well.

“Thank you, Alpha Roman, Luna Jessica looks stunning today as well. Please continue, we are eager to hear your news.” I said, trying to hide my disgust for him. He makes my skin crawl. Hunter is still watching me with an unknown expression and says, “Alpha Mia is correct; I am just as eager to figure out what is happening. We are experiencing the same thing. A few of our she-wolves have also disappeared without a trace.”

“Well, it seems the Rogues have formed a pack.” Alpha Roman says in a mocking tone. “They are led by some i***t that calls himself Alpha Eric.” 

Hmm, I wonder where they are situated? I’m a little impressed that this ‘Alpha Eric’ has gotten those rogues to work together. They prefer to be loners, and are normally exiled for crimes committed, or pack members that desert their packs for various reasons. 

I, too, was going to go rogue after what happened the day I shifted for the first time. If only I had gotten away sooner. 

“It seems Alpha Eric is looking for a particular she-wolf that he will be making his Luna. He doesn’t care who she belongs to. When he finds her, he will make her submit to him, and kill anyone who stands in his way”, Alpha Roman says and chuckles. 

"Who does this fucker think he is? He will not have any of our she-wolves. I will rip his heart out myself," he says in a menacing tone, letting his alpha aura roll off him. 

Like this asshole cares about women, he just doesn’t want to be made to look like the fool he is. “So, do we know who this she-wolf is that he is looking for?” Alpha Bill asked with a serious expression. 

“Do you remember the legend of the Goddess’s gift?” Alpha Roman asked while rolling his eyes. “The Legend of the Wolf, that will be born with the Moon Goddess’s mark?” asked Alpha Bill. 

“The Alpha of Alpha’s. The legend said that she would be sent to walk the earth to unite the supernatural world once again. She will come into her power when she is needed most and will unite all the supernaturals and vanquish a great evil.” Says Luna Ronnie. 

“Yes, that legend. This alpha Eric believes that she already walks among us.” Says Alpha Roman. 

“So, according to legend, she will be all-white with a black tail, and will have a black birthmark in the shape of a crescent moon on her forehead, when she is in wolf form. It is said that her fur will glimmer in the moonlight, and the mark will be even more pronounced.” Says Alpha Phillip, from one of Hunter’s neighboring packs. 

“Indeed, so is that the wolf they are looking for? And how does he know that the wolf is among us?” asks Alpha Bill.

“Yes, the rogues are watching all the packs until they see a wolf that meets the description. According to the rogues we questioned, this Alpha Eric has dark witches that are working for him. 

One of them had a vision of the Goddess's wolf. The dark witches have banded with him because they want access to her powers. That’s how it was so easy for them to make the missing she-wolves disappear without a trace.” Answers Alpha Roman. 

I just sat there looking at Hunter, as he looked at me with an unreadable expression. Julian shifts next to me. “Alpha, I have a bad feeling about this. We need to get back to the pack. Has Hunter seen your wolf?” Julian asks me over mind-link.

“I’m not sure if he got a good enough look at me though.” I answered him over mind-link. “It doesn’t matter, we cannot risk it. You know what this means? Your secret is out, it will only be a matter of time before someone sees you. You cannot shift until this rogue issue is sorted. We need to speak to your dad. Let’s cut the meeting short. I will come up with an excuse.” He says over mind-link, sounding a bit panicked. 

“Okay, I agree. What excuse are you going to use” I asked, still over mind-link. “Excuse me Alpha’s, Luna’s, we have just been called back to our pack. Our men protecting the border have captured a few Rogues. We have a few casualties and need to return”, Julian says with a bow. 

“I do apologize, I need to see to matters in my pack. Please stay in touch and keep us updated of any findings. I will do the same. We need to keep our women safe while we search for this Rogue pack. Please let me know when the next meeting will be. Good day Alpha’s and Luna’s. It was a pleasure seeing you all again,” I said as I got up from my chair.

“We’re sorry to see you go, my beauty, but we understand” Alpha Roman says while kissing my hand. I feel like washing my hands with disinfectant and a scrubbing brush. He is so disgusting. 

“I, too, will take my leave. I need to get back to my pack if your border is compromised.” Says Alpha Bill, as he and Luna Ronnie also stand to leave. 

I had just stepped out of the pack house when someone grabbed my wrist. I feel a slight tingle at the touch. I instinctively turned and threw a punch with my other hand. 

The punch is blocked by none other than Hunter. “Woah, I just wanted your attention. No need to get violent.” He says with a smirk, still holding onto my wrist, and I’m still feeling that slight tingle. 

“Let go of me then, you have my attention now, don’t you” I say, trying to school my expression. “Can we talk?” he asks. “I have nothing to say to you and I have important matters to attend to.” I say. 

"I understand, but please just give me 5 minutes. I need to tell you something.” He says with pleading eyes. This f*****g asshole ruined my life, and left me for dead. Now he wants me to give him of my time? 

The nerve of this man. “I don’t care” I said as I turned to leave. “It’s important, Mia, it’s about a wolf we both know that is in danger.” He said with a serious tone. 

I turned back and raised one eyebrow. “I’m listening,” I said. “In my office please. Its confidential” he says. “I don’t like or trust this fucker. You shouldn’t be alone with him.” Julian mind-links me. 

“I know, but I think he knows it’s me. I need to hear him out. I can handle myself around him. Don’t worry about me. I will mind-link you if I need help.” I told him over mind-link. 

“Okay, you’re the boss. Just be careful, please my Alpha.” He answers. “I will, I’ll be quick, just wait for me outside the door of his office.” I answer still over mind-link. 

“Okay, I only have a few minutes. Lead the way.” I said to Hunter with a neutral expression. He doesn’t need to know how worried I am.
