“Here is what happened. The twins April and May ? You know them both from the files."

"I know of them."

"Good. May was the one everyone expected to matter. She's remarkable, honestly—powerful, fast, skilled, the kind of wolf that makes you take a step back and actually reassess. One of the Black Shadow prodigies. Smart in a way that's almost unsettling for someone her age. If I had to bet on which Quinn daughter was the one you were looking for, I would bet on May every single time.”

“So what happened?”

“May was the one I had my eyes on. In fact she was the one I focus on throughout, yet something strange happened along the way. Despite may being the powerful one that stood out, there was always something odd about her twin. The one who was called "wolfless"

“Hmmm”

I said nothing. I was watching the dark forest as birds and bats were flying away from where they rested.

"April the eldest twin. The one they call worthless, with no active wolf, no remarkable ability and no pack standing worth mentioning, just an heiress by name. Everything the pack values, was all she lacked. Everything they dismiss, she is. She was Howard Quinn's great embarrassment, quietly managed, kept out of anything important."

“The elders despised her, like they were afraid and at the same time disgusted especially with the fact that she was going to marry a powerful alpha. So I killed one or two.. not really sure of the numbers ,created fear spread rumour and found out that the reason for such hatred as because she was exactly the girl or should I say monster that caused chaos ten years ago just like you informed me”

"And so I made it so that she would be kicked out, made May to claim Luke rather than April. Thanks to yours truly and a masterplan I created so elegant it almost made me forgive you for how annoying you are when you're being secretive for refusing to tell me what exactly you need the girl for making my work so hard."

Another pause. I could hear her adjusting her position again. Then she continued

"The switch worked. May married Luke. April was in the ceremony in the wrong role, and then — something happened at the last minute. I kinda made a mistake, well not really like that.”

“Speak Mirabel”

“I attacked the May the newly crowned Luna in her sister’s form to test if she was actually unique but nah nothing was special about her, with that I confirmed it had all been April all along that was when I went to steal the treasure you asked for and I failed as the level of security had madly increased and they were now hunting April down now for treason”

"Maxwell the Captain of the guard with three elite guards are hunting her right now, Aiden. Right now, as I am standing in a bush in the dark talking to you. So if you are planning on doing anything, the window is — I would say narrow."

“If she truly is the one, I should make a move. Where is she currently?”

“Last I heard she drove her bike heading towards the top of the hill at the end of the forest” Mirabel said

"I know where she's going."

“You do?." Mirabel asked shockingly

"She'll come to the river." I sounded confident as to me it was a correct prediction.

"You planned for this?."

“Of course not, but the path she took gave me a hint, trying to escape on foot might have taken another turn but on a motorcycle, that's where she will arrive at”

“I see..”

"I’m leaving now, stay safe and hidden, I'll contact you at the usual point when it's done."

Then just when I was about to end the call, Mirabel spoke out fast all of a sudden.

AIDEN’S POVI’ve been in this world long enough to know that both humans and creatures — werewolves, vampires, and everything that moves in the spaces between — have a tendency to mythologize violence. They dress it up. Give it weight it doesn’t always deserve. Some call it the warrior’s call. Some call it the honor of a clean kill. Some call it a fair fight.I understand the impulse. Mythology makes uncomfortable things easier to live with. It turns brutality into something the mind can file away neatly, something with shape and meaning and a story attached to it.I’ve never found it useful.Violence, to me, has always been a transaction. You weigh the cost. You check if it’s worth the return. Then you execute. Sentiment about the method is a luxury that belongs to people who don’t do it for reasons that actually matter.Tonight, like I had said, the reason I was going to be violent didn’t matter at all. I needed no reason to.I gave out the order and my pack went to it immediately.

She's not going to run.'"No, there’s no need, she has nowhere to run to" I agreed. She did a systematic sweep, left to right, measuring the circumference of the situation with those dark eyes. Running the numbers. Arriving, I suspected, at the same conclusion I would have arrived at in her position — which was that the numbers were terrible and that there was exactly one variable in the entire situation that was not yet fixed.Me.So I stepped out of the tree line and walked toward her.My boots were wet and the forest floor was soft after the rain and I made no particular effort to be silent. There was no point. She knew I was there the moment I moved. She turned to face me before I had taken three steps, and the shift in her focus — from the pack to me, from the general to the specific — told me she had already identified that I was the Alpha. Not by my size, not by my leather, but by the way the other eyes and body adjusted when I moved. It was a Pack orientation. She'd grown up

The current had her, and she was too tired and too hurt to fight it head-on, so she didn't. She worked with it instead — angling herself, conserving, reading the water rather than battling it.It was the right call. It wasn’t the call an experienced swimmer made, she that was panicking suddenly gain a real energy and strength all of a sudden. She was battered and bleeding and half-drowned and she suddenly changed the table with such boost.Something definitely had happened there.I had been told this girl had no wolf. No power. Nothing exceptional. But with what I just saw I was revising that assessment in real time. The branch caught her, or she caught it — I couldn't tell anymore which was which. She pulled herself hand over hand along it with arms that had no business still functioning, clawed up the bank on sheer will, and collapsed face-first into the mud.I came in downstream and surfaced quietly, moving to the bank twenty feet from her. Stood in the shallows and watched her I s

My wolf made a sound that, in a human, would have been a laugh. It wasn't quite that. But it was the closest equivalent.'Did she just aim the machine at him.''She was going to hit him.''A mortal girl on a motorbike was going to ram Maxwell — full shift, two hundred and thirty pounds of Black Shadow's head enforcer — head on.'"I am aware of what she was attempting to do, yes, it was stupid and dumb, and extremely desperate."Unfortunately she didn't get the chance to complete it. One of the flanking wolves — Daniel I think, from the angle — came in from the side, claws first. The motorbike went down. She went with it.My jaw tightened. As expected.I watched Maxwell's wolves pull back — not to help her or to finish her, but to play. That was the word for it. The deliberate circling, the strategic intervals between lunges, the way they let her get back to her feet and grab the bike again not because she'd escaped but because they were choosing to let her believe she had. They wan

The girl refused to give up, she was still moving, she tried fighting back and refusing to be in that situation.I found Maxwell in the chaos on the far bank, tracking his grey form through the undergrowth. He was a known quantity — I had a file on him, of sorts. Not a literal file; I didn't keep paperwork. But the kind of comprehensive mental record you maintained on individuals who were assets to your enemy and therefore potential variables in your planning.Maxwell had been Quinn's head enforcer for eleven years. He had a gift for obedience, which made him useful to Howard, and a gift for cruelty, which made him good at his job.He also had a habit of enjoying the hunt more than the conclusion.Which meant he would play with her first. Which he had done. From that Howl he was going to end it now.Nathan identified the other three when they moved into better light near the water's edge.“Beside Maxwell is Marcus. Daniel. Peter.” He said silently to me.“Who are they? Are they strong

  • His Rejected Luna is The Lycan’s Queen   Fifty Nine

AIDEN'S POVI have watched a great many hunts in my life, one of which I enjoyed, some I was hunted. Mostly, I have run some of them myself. I have been the quarry in others — in the early years, when being a rogue Alpha meant that every established pack within three territories felt entitled to test whether you could be removed. They all learnt the hard way and never got the chance to use such lesson. You see you learn things about a hunt from both sides. You learn what the hunters are telling each other in the pitch and spacing of their howls. You learn what the quarry is thinking from the direction of their movement, the choices they make at forks in the path, the difference between a person who is running in panic and a person who is running with a destination in mind. The girl definitely had a destination in mind. That was the first thing that struck me as strange. The second was her determination and will to live and survive. Her tenaciousness was way over the top.We had take
