I woke up with a throbbing headache. It felt like someone was playing drums inside my head. I sat up straight on the bed and slowly placed my feet on the floor. Memories of what happened the night before flooded my brain, and my chest tightened. Could this get any worse? I stood up carefully and walked towards the bathroom to wash my face, and then I walked back into the living room to meet Beatrice. She was holding a tray of breakfast in her hand. “You're awake,” Beatrice smiled lightly. “Don't you have class this morning?” I asked. “It's Sunday, even law students rest on Sundays,” Beatrice replied as she dropped the tray on the bed. Oh yeah… I totally forgot, but good news for me, I really can't see myself going to work with this headache. “I made breakfast, sit down,” Beatrice gestured, and I sat down on the bed. “Karl brought you back,” she started, and I blinked. How can I forget how I cried on him. I closed my eyes in embarrassment. “He did?” I asked, focusing on the food. “Yes, he carried you into the room and placed you on the bed,” Beatrice said, and I almost choked on the tea I was drinking “Really?” I asked, I remembered crying and falling asleep, not being carried. “Yes, is there something I should know?” Beatrice asked. I know what she is thinking, but I can’t find the right words to explain that isn't the case with Karl and me. “I met Hannah yesterday,” I started, and Beatrice blinked. “Hannah Sanders? Ethan’s fiancée?” Beatrice asked with wide eyes, and I nodded. I explained to her what happened with Hannah, trying my best not to break down again in front of my sister. I know how worried she is about me. “That jerk! Hasn’t he done enough already!” Beatrice seethed. “I just want to get over him completely, and I really hope I don't have to see his face again” I replied, and Beatrice nodded, engulfing me in a warm hug. I never thought I would need this, but it turns out I do “You'll be fine,” Beatrice comforted. “Thank you.” I replied, and then we heard the doorbell ring. “It's probably Katelyn, I would go get it.” I said, but Beatrice stopped me. “Let me,” she insisted and walked out of the bedroom. I took the food and followed behind her, intending to eat in the living room. When Beatrice opened the door, it wasn't Katelyn standing there, but Karl. What is he doing here? “Morning,” he smiled, showing his slightly deep dimples. “Mr. Moretti, what brought you here this early?” Beatrice asked. This is a disaster. I quickly dropped the tray and walked towards the door, pushing Karl backward as I stepped outside and closed the door behind me, not without giving Beatrice a reassuring smile. “You won’t even welcome me into your home? I came here immediately after my morning meeting,” Karl complained, and I sighed. “Why are you here?” I asked, completely ignoring his statement. “I wanted to make sure you're okay. I would have called, but I don't have your number,” he replied calmly. “I'm fine, thank you.” I said. “Are you thanking me for checking up on you or for last night?” He asked and I bit the inner walls of my mouth in embarrassment. “For both, I'm sorry you had to see me like that,” I replied, looking down in embarrassment. “You don't have to apologize for that, love” Karl replied softly, slowly lifting my head, and my eyes met his. He touched my cheek softly, which instantly turned rosy. “Mom, is that Aunt Lana's boyfriend?” I heard Lily’s voice, and my eyes widened. I quickly turned to see Katelyn holding her little girl’s hand. “Katelyn,” I said, moving away from Karl and towards my sweet neighbor who smiled at me. “Sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt.” Katelyn apologized, but I waved my hand quickly in disproval. “You didn't interrupt anything. Already going to work?” I asked, and she nodded. “I was hoping Lily would stay with you,” Katelyn said. “Sure, happy to help, anytime” I replied, and Lily quickly ran to me. “Aunt Lana, your boyfriend is so handsome,” Lily smiled, and I turned to Karl, who smirked in return. “This little girl has great taste,” Karl replied. “Lily!” Katelyn scoulded. “I'm really sorry” she apologized. “No… he is not my-” “No worries” Karl replied instead, and Katelyn nodded before walking away. Her gaze lingered on Karl for a second too long. Even my neighbor found him handsome. “What's your name?” Lily asked Karl, and I turned. I didn't even know when she left my side to Karl's. “Lily, go inside and say good morning to Aunt Beatrice,” I said to Lily, who hesitated before walking into my home. Karl had a smirk on his face the entire time. He is so smug. “I was wondering if I could get your number,” Karl said, and I blinked. “Why do you want my phone number?” I asked. “I'm sure you know the use of a phone number” Karl answered, and I frowned. “You can at least award me that much after all my efforts, love.” Karl added, and I sighed. I stretched out my hand, and he pulled out his phone, dropping it on my palm. I typed in my number and returned it. “Would you want to come in for breakfast?” I asked, and he smiled. “I don’t actually expect you to agree, just asking for the sake of good manners,” I added, and his smile dropped, but a smirk slowly formed on his face. “No thank you, I have a meeting soon, I would make sure to use the award you granted me,” Karl replied and walked off. I watched his tall, thin, muscular build retreating with interest. My lips tugged upwards slightly, but I quickly cleared my throat and walked back into my home. When I got in, I couldn't find Beatrice nor Lily, but I could hear their voices from the bedroom, and I sighed before slumping on the couch. I took my phone from the phone tray, and immediately, it pinged. A message from an unknown number, is it the same person as before. I tap on the message, and my grip on my phone tightened.Lana“What are you doing here?” I asked.“I need you to talk to your boyfriend,” Ethan said.“Boyfriend?” I asked, not sure what he was talking about, then it hit me. He is talking about Karl. “What do you mean?” I raised an eyebrow.“It's all your fault! I wouldn't have ended up like this if it weren't for you,” Ethan screamed, and I flinched. What on earth is he talking about. “Don't blame me for your unfortunate situation. You just can't face the fact that karma is real,” I snapped.“Karma?” Ethan scoffed. “Your boyfriend did this to me because of you, I don't know how you convinced him or how you managed to wrap him around your fingers, but I know you are behind it!” He yelled, walking closer to me, and I stepped back.“I didn't do anything!” I retorted. “You need to leave right now!” I said, trying to walk past him to my door when he held my wrist.Nausea hit me like a wave as I relived through the memory of what happened last time.I suddenly forgot how to breathe, and my heart
LanaI turned and I met Karl, standing not too far from me. “I told you to wait in the car," I walked towards him.“And you expect me to?” Karl asked.“Isn't that why instructions are given?” I snapped.“He is lying,” Karl said, and I blinked. There's no way Karl heard our conversation except... he has super human hearing, which is next to impossible.Right?“Did you hear our conversation?” I asked, just to be sure he doesn't have super hearing.“No, but I can read lips and people's actions too. He looks too calm, and that is not good,” Karl replied, walking towards the car, and I followed behind him."You're also too calm," I retorted."Why are you so inclined on defending him?" Karl questioned, I could tell he is losing his cool a little.Wait... Is he jealous? Definitely not!“How do you know he is lying? he looks genuine to me, though. I may not know Cole that well, but he doesn't give off that kind of vibe,” I said as we got to Karl's car.“Love, if you keep relying on vibe, you
Lana “I don't think it's a good idea for you to meet him especially since he might be one of the one who led to your kidnapping,” Beatrice tried to talk me out of going to meet Cole. I waited for Jenna this morning after I was done with my shift and asked her to help get through to Cole so I could talk to him, I tried calling him using my phone, but it always went to voice mail. I told him to meet with me this afternoon, and he readily agreed, which was weird, because why wouldn't he take my call? I didn't tell him why I wanted to see him or anything concerning my kidnapping just to be on a safer side. “I have to meet with him myself to know what's going on,” I said, and Beatrice pressed her lips together. “Why don't you let Karl handle it?” She asked, and I paused. I definitely can't let Karl handle things because this is way deeper than my kidnapping. It's about my mother. I could still remember the disappointment on Karl's face when I demanded to come back home immediately
Karl Lana looked like she didn't know what to say. What did those bastards tell her?I have always been worried about this exact thing, I have been afraid of drawing her into my world because it's not a place for someone like her.I didn't expect my fears to haunt me so fast, I can still remember how fucking scared I was when Ryan told me she was missing.I was already drawing up a list of possible suspects in my head but none of them fit. When I realized that, I got even more scared because I don't know the enemy or how to find Lana.I was more than glad to know there were cameras on the streets where her apartment building is located. It wasn't hard to find the car they took her in.“Lana” I heard Beatrice call, and then my bedroom door pushed open.Beatrice ran to her sister and engulfed her in a tight hug while I stood up from the bed, my eyes falling on Ryan.“I was so scared,” Beatrice says.“You're suffocating me” Lana taps her sister lightly.“Sorry,” Beatrice pulled away.“
Lana I force my eyes open. My head throbbed badly as I tried to keep my eyes open. “Awake?” I heard a deep voice. I tried to move, but my hands were restricted, tied behind the chair I didn't know I was sitting on. My legs were also tied to the same chair, I raised my head up to meet a pair of black eyes. “What do you want?” I bit out, my throat was tight, and my heart drummed uncontrollably in my chest. I have been kidnapped. “Calm down pretty, we are just getting started,” the man chuckled, and fear blew up in me. Nothing about his expression said anything good. “Who are you? Who sent you to me?” I asked again, desperate for answers. “Patiences, I was asked to scare you a little but don't worry, you'd be free after we get what we want,” The man raised my head with his fingers and I turn my head away making him chuckle. “sit tight,” he smiled and walked out of the small room. I looked around me, the room was empty, the light bulb was turned on, it's basically the only thin
LanaWhy is he here?He shouldn’t be here right now.My eyes met with Karl's empty ones, and i pressed my lips together.Stella stood beside me, and Karl's eyes went to her.“Didn't you hear what I said?” He raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased.Stella couldn't move. I could feel her visibly stiffened beside me. It seems all her confidence obliterated. Her feet left the floor slowly, and she walked out of the kitchen.“Come with me,” Karl said to me and left. This isn't right, I don't like this, Karl's presence only made the situation worse. He only confirmed how right Stella was, and that made my blood boil.He shouldn't have come here and fired Stella.I followed Karl into Roman’s office. The elevator ride was long as hell.“Why are you here?” I asked again.“That chef posted a picture of the both of us in the staff group, Roman saw it and told me about it, aren't you in the group?” He asked, and I blinked. No one was nice enough to tell me there was a staff group.“No, Stella show
