Chapter 3

Author: Soda
I had tea with a friend and returned home as evening settled in.

As my car approached the electronic gates, and just as I was about to use the fingerprint scanner, I saw two familiar figures lingering outside.

Caleb and Ivy. They loitered by the gate, looking like stray pups.

"Elena!" Caleb spotted my car and rushed over immediately. "What are you doing here?"

I rolled down my window. "Something wrong?"

He frowned, and then a realization seemed to dawn on him.

"You just got back and you're rushing to see Grandpa with me?"

"Don't worry, if you play your cards right, I'll tell Grandpa to let you remain my mate."

"Stop staring. Since you're here, help me with this. The gate system is on the fritz," Caleb said with the casual arrogance of someone used to getting their way. "My fingerprint scan failed, and the guard won't let me in. I'm Damian's nephew; how could I not have access?"

"Maybe the system updated," I said, looking at him. The truth was, Damian had specifically locked down access. After we became mates, he'd declared he would never let that heartless man set foot on his territory again.

Caleb glanced at the wolf guards standing nearby.

"Then come with me and help me prove my identity to them!"

But as he turned, Ivy spoke up, her voice weak.

"Elena, I know you don't like me, but could you at least let me come in and rest for a bit? I really can't hold on much longer..."

I took a closer look. Her face was indeed pale, but her eyes held a chilling, unreadable glint.

Before Ivy could finish speaking, her body suddenly went limp, and she crumpled towards me.

Instinctively, I released a sliver of my aura.

A Luna's instinct is to protect her territory.

But just then, Ivy cried out and fell to the ground.

"Elena!" Caleb rushed over to help Ivy up. "Are you insane? Attacking an Omega with your power?"

I stared at her, the person who seemed to be faking it all, utterly baffled. "I didn't touch her."

"She's bleeding!" Caleb pointed at Ivy's elbow. "Your power injured her!"

Ivy sobbed, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"I'm okay... cough... my wolf was just startled. Elena didn't mean to..."

Seeing his fragile adopted sister, Caleb's expression turned ice cold.

"Apologize," he demanded.

I raised an eyebrow.

"What did you say?"

"How dare you bully the weak? Apologize to Ivy," Caleb spat out, each word laced with venom.

I repeated helplessly, "She fell on her own."

"Stop making excuses!" Caleb roared. "Everyone saw it! You unleashed your power, and that's why she got hurt and fell!"

I glanced toward the wolf guards standing nearby.

Sensing I was threatened, they drew their weapons, but they were aimed at Caleb.

Caleb, however, was oblivious. He took a deep breath.

"Elena, I'm saying this one last time. Apologize to Ivy! Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude!"

The wolf guards were already closing in.

With my hands in my pockets, I felt no fear of him hurting me. I calmly asked, "And if I refuse?"

Caleb sneered.

"Then you'll never be my mate," he said, his words heavy with finality. "And you'll never set foot on this estate again."

I almost laughed out loud.

Be his mate? Set foot on the estate?

Did this overconfident wolf truly misunderstand the current situation?

Just then, Ivy clutched Caleb's sleeve, her voice a pitiful plea.

"Don't be angry, brother. If Sister would just lend me that Maserati to drive, I'd forgive her."

His anger still simmering, he soothed his adopted sister, then turned back to me.

"Did you hear that? Ivy's giving you an easy out. If you know what's good for you, just hand over the Maserati."

Hearing this, I let out a scoff.

"Caleb. Do you know whose estate this is?"

"Of course I know, this is the Blackwood family..."

Bang!

A heavy wooden cane flew out from inside the estate, landing squarely on Caleb's back.

"Jerk!"

Grandpa Elder emerged, his face contorted with rage.

"That's your Luna! And you dare command her?!"

Caleb clutched his back and looked up blankly.

"Grandpa, what are you talking about? What Luna..."

Before he could finish, he noticed that all the wolf guards around him had simultaneously lowered their heads, exposing the sides of their necks.

It was a clear gesture of submission.

After the feast, Damian and I returned to the estate. In the bedroom, he carefully helped me sit on the edge of the bed. Then, he knelt, resting his face against my belly."Baby," he whispered. "I'm going to be a father."Seeing his goofy expression, I couldn't help but chuckle. "He's only eight weeks old; he can't hear you yet.""He will," Damian insisted, his tone unwavering. "Wolf pups can sense their parents' emotions from the moment of conception."He looked up, his red eyes glowing with deep affection."Thank you, Elena.""Thank you for what?""Thank you for choosing to carry our child. You have become my Luna, my wife... my everything." He kissed the back of my hand.My eyes welled up."Damian, I'm the one who should be thanking you.""If it weren't for you, I don't know what would have happened to me."Two years ago, that night, I stood in the banquet hall, facing stares filled with pity and mockery. Caleb's rejection mark had instantly turned me into the laughingstock of the e

Not long after, the grand annual Moonlit Gala commenced in Blackwood Estate's main hall.I was adorned in a custom gown, the moonstone necklace Damian had commissioned resting cool against my skin. He'd had it retrieved after Caleb's last brazen theft, and when he placed it back around my neck, he'd infused it with a potent protective charm."Afraid he'll try to steal it again?" I teased, a smile playing on my lips."Afraid he'll get too close to you," Damian murmured, his tone serious. "This charm makes any wolf, except me, profoundly uncomfortable the moment they encroach upon your personal space."Classic Alpha possessiveness, amplified. What could I do? He was my Alpha, and I'd always found myself yielding to his desires. The banquet hall hummed with the clinking of glasses and the murmur of hushed conversations.Representatives from every major pack were in attendance, all eager to curry favor with the Wolf King.I walked by Damian's side, offering smiles and returning the numerou

The next morning, I woke up to find Damian had already left for the office.A note lay on the nightstand: "Alpha, satisfied with my performance last night? Breakfast is in the warmer. — Your Luna"My face flushed, and I crumpled the note into a ball and tossed it into the trash. How dare this wolf write such a thing? After breakfast, I started tackling my work.A few unread messages popped up on my phone. Most were new product invitations from brands, and a couple were from my girlfriends eager for last night's gossip. At the bottom was a message from an unknown number."Elena, I'm sorry about last night. But I won't give up. You'll eventually realize we're fated. — C"I blocked him directly. In the afternoon, after finishing my tasks, I stretched.Just then, the butler knocked: "Lady Luna, we have a visitor.""Who?""Young Master Caleb and Miss Ivy."I refused without a second thought. Damian was quite jealous last night, and I didn't want to cause any more friction. The butler nodded

The dinner table was quiet.Damian's meeting had run late yet again; he'd messaged he wouldn't be back until well past midnight.I took a long, hot bath, slipped into my silk pajamas, and decided to call it an early night.A sharp rap suddenly sounded at my door."My Luna," the butler's voice was clipped and formal from the other side. "Young Master Caleb is in the garden. He wishes to see you.""I will not see him."The butler paused, a flicker of something unreadable in his tone, before speaking again."He said… he'd wait there, kneeling, until you agreed."I rubbed my temples, a familiar headache brewing. What in the world was going through this overconfident wolf's mind?I threw on a robe and descended the stairs. From a distance, I saw Caleb kneeling on the flagstone path in the rose garden. In his hand, he clutched something that vaguely resembled a bouquet.I looked closer and realized it was ornamental grass, the kind the estate gardeners used to fill out flower beds. Caleb's face drained of color, as if he'd seen a ghost."Grandpa, have you lost your mind?" His voice trembled. "How could Elena be the Luna? She's just… someone I tossed aside…""Shut your mouth!" Seeing Caleb about to insult me again, Grandpa Elder's fury ignited. He slammed his cane down on Caleb's shoulder."Guards, restrain this disrespectful brat! I'll teach this scoundrel a lesson he won't forget!"At his command, two burly wolf guards moved forward, pinning Caleb down forcefully. As the cane was raised again, Caleb struggled, yelling, "Grandpa, you've got it all wrong! I didn't do anything!"At that critical moment, I let out a sigh and intervened."Father, please. Don't upset yourself."Hearing that, Caleb froze. He turned his head to look at me, his eyes wide with shock."You… you called him what?""She calls me Father, you hear that?" Grandpa Elder huffed. "Two years ago, Elena became mates with your uncle! She is the rightful Luna of the Blackwood family. You will show her
