*Aria's POV*

Rain was falling the night I ran.

Not the gentle kind that kissed windows and soothed restless hearts. No. This rain came down like a warning - sharp, cold, relentless - drumming against the pavement as if trying to stop me from taking another step towards the inevitable.

My breath fogged the taxi window as the city blurred past it. Neon lights streaked across the glass like smeared paint, turning everything into a distorted version of the life I was abandoning.

My life.

My prison.

My home.

My heart clenched hard enough to hurt. Maybe because the taxi crossing the one place where everything had started - the long, dark stretch of road leading away from the Hale estate. Or maybe because I was leaving behind the one person I never wanted to run from.

Lucian.

Even thinking his name felt dangerous.

He was the storm in the middle of my too-quiet world, the man whose touch had once felt like a promise and a threat wrapped into one. The man who had held me like he owned every breath I took. The man who would burn the entire world to ash if he ever found out the truth...

That I was pregnant.

And the child was his.

My hand trembled as I pressed it over my stomach - not even showing yet, but already changing everything. There was something both terrifying and sacred about that small life inside me. It made me brave and weak. Fierce and terrified.

It made me a mother.

It made me a traitor.

The taxi swerved to avoid a deep puddle. I flinched when my phone lit up with another call - Lucian written in bold white letters across the screen.

He had already called seven times.

Seven times since I stepped out of his apartment. Seven times since I lied to his face and walked away from the only man I had ever loved.

The taxi driver glanced at me through the mirror.

"You want to take that, miss?"

"No." My voice broke on the single syllable. "Please... just keep driving."

He nodded and turned his eyes back to the road.

I watched Lucian's name fade into darkness as the phone stopped vibating, but the ache he left inside me didn't.

He would not understand why I had to go.

He would never let me go willingly.

And once he discovered what my family had done - what they were planning to do to our child - there would be blood.

My child didn't deserve to be born into war. Into revenge. Into the price of the Hale family or the wrath of the Drakovs.

Lucian came from a world ruled by men like him - dominant, dangerous, merciless - but my family belonged to a different kind of mafia altogether: the quiet, politocal kind that destroyed people with secrets instead of guns.

Both were deadly.

Both were enemies.

And I was the one foolish enough to love the son of our greatest threat.

Lightning flashed, illuminating the sky in a violent white streak.

The night I fell in love with Lucian had been exactly like this - a gathering storm, a warning in the air, an inevitable ending brewing in the background. But back then, I'd been too naive to recognize what kind of man he was.

What kind of man I had chosen.

A Drakov never lets go. Not of enemies. Not of lovers. Not of blood.

He would hunt me.

And I would run.

For my child.

For the small heartbeat that deserved peace.

For the future I wanted them to have. One far from the sins of either family.

"Almost there." The taxi driver said softly.

I turned my head towards the window again. My reflection stared back at me - honey brown curls sticking to my damp cheeks, brown eyes swollen from crying, mascara smudged like bruises beneath them. I looked nothing like the sheltered, polished Hale daughter anymore.

I looked like a runaway.

A coward.

A mother.

A queen with no crown.

My phone vibrated again.

Lucian.

But this time... it didn't stop.

It rang once.

Twice.

A third time.

And then a message appeared.

One line.

One promise.

'Don't make me come find you, Aria.'

My heartbneat stumbled.

Because I knew he wasn't talking about heartbreak.

Or loneliness.

Or some dramatic plea for closure.

No.

It was a warning.

Lucian Drakov didn't beg. He didn't plead. He didn't fall apart.

He hunted.

I pressed the phone face-down into my coat pocket, squeezing my eyes shut as if that could silence the echo of his voice in my mind- deep, cold, steel-forged.

You're mine, Aria.

But I wasn't.

Not anymore.

The airport lights appeared in the distance. Relief flooded my body, weak and trembling, as if I had been holding my breath since leaving his bed hours earlier.

I could do this.

I had to.

For the tiny life inside me. For the innocence my world would destroy.

The taxi slowed to a stop under the shelter of the departure hall.

The roof overhead rattled from the storm.

"Good luck miss." The driver murmured, handing me my bag.

I swallowed hard and forced a small smile. "I'm going to need it."

As I stepped out into the cold air, rain blowing in sideways, my phone vibrated one more time.

Another message.

A final thread snapping between us.

'Whenever you go, I'll find you.'

My breath trembled.

Because I believed him.

Because he always did.

And as the first boarding call echoed through the airport speakers, I whispered to my unborn child, voice shaking:

"Hold on little one. We just need to disappear before he finds us."

But deep down...

I knew this was not the end.

Lucian Drakov would cross oceans for me.

He would burn cities.

He would tear the world apart brick by brick until I was in his arms again.

And when he discovered why I ran?

Hell would be nothing compared to the storm he'd unleash.

And nothing will stop it.

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 72: Public Lines

*Aria's POV*War is quieter than people think. It doesn’t always begin with gunfire.Sometimes it begins with an invitation.Lucian didn’t sleep.I don’t think he even closed his eyes.By morning, the estate had shifted from defensive to deliberate. No more waiting for my father’s next move. No more reacting. We were going to move first.I stood in Lucian’s dressing room, staring at the row of gowns arranged on the rack.“You’re serious,” I said.Lucian adjusted his cufflinks in the mirror. “Completely.”“This isn’t just a dinner.”“No,” he agreed. “It’s a statement.”Tonight, Lucian would host a private gala at the estate. Not public in the traditional sense – no press, no random guests – but every major political and financial figure in our circle would be there.Including allies of my father.Including rivals.Including people who would carry whatever they saw straight back to him.“You want to make it undeniable,” I murmured.“Yes.”My reflection stared back at me – not the obedie

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 71: That night

*Aria's POV*We didn’t leave. That was the first decision.Lucian gave the order to prepare relocation, but an hour later he rescinded it. I watched the shift happen in real time – the moment strategy gave way to instinct.Running would look like fear. And Lucian Drakov does not run.Neither do I.But standing still while my father circles the perimeter like a patient predator? That takes a different kind of courage.--------------------------------------------------The estate transformed before midnight.Security tripled. The outer gates were sealed manually. No remote override. No digital vulnerability.Lucian’s men moved like shadows – efficient, silent, lethal.Adrian was relocated to the interior wing, the one designed like a fortress within the fortress. Reinforced walls. Independent power grid. No external windows.I hated that he even needed such protection.I hated that this was normal in our world.Lucian stood in the control room, sleeves rolled up, tie gone, eyes sharp as

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 70: Or else

*Aria’s POV*Tomorrow.Such a simple word.Such a violent deadline. The gates had barely closed behind my father’s car when the air shifted inside the estate. Security doubled. Communications locked down. Lucian’s men moved with quiet urgency, speaking into earpieces, scanning monitors, checking routes.War didn’t start with bullets. It started with preparation.Lucian didn’t let go of me until we were inside. His hand stayed at the back of my neck as if I might vanish if he loosened his grip.“Adrian,” I breathed suddenly.“He’s secured,” Lucian said immediately. “Already moved to the inner wing.”I nodded, but my pulse didn’t slow until I saw my son with my own eyes.Adrian was sitting on the floor of the private lounge, building something out of wooden blocks, blissfully unaware that men were threatening to rip his mother out of his life. When he saw me, he ran.“Mom.”I dropped to my knees and held him so tightly he laughed.“You’re squeezing.”“I know,” I whispered into his hair.

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 69: The claim

Aria’s POVI should have known they wouldn’t stay silent forever. That the peace we basked in for days would be broken.Cassian and Lila left, surprisingly at the same time, but business with them didn’t end.So my father and uncle decided to make an appearance again.Men like my father and my uncle don’t accept humiliation. They avenge it.And I humiliated them the night I ran.The night I left Matteo at the altar, and then Lucian shooting him. We knew that he wasn’t dead, but severely injured. The night I chose Lucian.Again.It was late afternoon when the first sign appeared. Not violence. Not blood.Precision.Lucian and I were in the west garden of the estate, Adrian laughing somewhere near the fountain under the careful watch of two guards. For a fleeting second, everything looked almost normal.Almost peaceful. Then Lucian’s phone vibrated. He glanced at it once. And the temperature around him dropped ten degrees.“What?” I asked quietly. He didn’t answer immediately. He handed

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 68: Bloodlines and consequences

*Aria's POV*The news didn’t break publicly. It detonated privately.Lucian told his parents before the press could taste it. Before investors could whisper. Before the vultures circled. And I was there when it happened.I don’t think he meant for me to be.But I was.-----------------------------------------------The Drakov estate had a way of swallowing sound. Marble floors. High ceilings. Walls that had witnessed three generations of calculated power plays.Lucian’s parents had returned from Switzerland only days ago. Officially, it was a short visit before returning to oversee expansion projects in Geneva.Unofficially? They were here to assess damage. His mother, Elena Drakov, sat in the drawing room like a queen receiving traitors. Impeccably dressed. Silver threaded through dark hair that never seemed to move out of place. His father, Victor Sinclair, stood near the fireplace, posture rigid, hands clasped behind his back. He looked less like a businessman and more like a gener

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 67: The ring on the desk

*Aria’s POV*I wasn’t meant to hear it.That’s the irony.I wasn’t spying. I wasn’t lurking. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop like some desperate woman clinging to scraps of a man’s life.I was walking down the corridor toward the west wing – toward Adrian’s room – when I saw her.Lila.Standing outside Lucian’s study.Still. Poised. Elegant as ever. But her hand was trembling. That’s what made me stop. The door closed behind her.Soft.Final.Something in my chest tightened.I don’t know why I moved closer.Maybe instinct.Maybe self-sabotage.Maybe I needed proof that I wasn’t imagining the distance between us these past few days. The door hadn’t shut completely. A sliver remained open. And through it, I saw the ring.On his desk.Between them.I couldn’t hear every word. Just fragments.“…concluded.”“…political.”“…mutual.”“…not returning.”Each word felt like a stone dropped into my stomach. She slid the engagement ring off her finger. And placed it on his desk.I watched Lucian’s f
